[ male announcer ] tim kaine. bringing people together to tackle the challenges of tomorrow. >> this is breaking news on news 4 at 11:00. >> a split verdict tonight in the trial of two prince george's county police officers who were charged with beating a university of maryland student two years ago. chris jordan is outside the courthouse with more. chris?

>> reporter: corporal baker was found not guilty of second-degree assault. he bowed his head in tears. his lawyer put his arm around him. but, then, the jury foreman announced corporal james harrison, second-degree assault, guilty. harrison showed no emotion. the jury deliberated 6 1/2 hours. the jury deciding that the first officer, corporal baker, used legal force on the student but the second officer who joined in, corporal james harrison used excessive force. harrison is a 22-year veteran tonight. the student who was beaten spoke after the verdict. >> i'm definitely glad that some justice has been done today. it's been a long two years for me and my family.

but it was a broader crime committed here and it's been way further than the two cops charged in this trial. so we hope that the department of justice continues their investigation. >> state's attorney angela brooks prosecuted the two officers and prince george's countye sa polic they are partners in protecting the community. >> we believe that the citizens have spoken loudly and clearly that although we appreciate and we really honor the protection that is provided to us, that protection must be reasonable and that protection must respect the dignity of every human being in this community. >> this police department is resolved to be constitutional, professional and ethical police department. the trust of the community is paramount. >> reporter: the chief says that both officers remain on suspension pending police

administrative review. the state's attorney says she doesn't want to see any, either of these officers back on the street in prince george's county. corporal james harrison will be sentenced on december 14th. second-degree assault, the conviction tonight, carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison. that's the latest. chris jordan, news 4. >> we have more breaking news now. police in prince george's county say one person was killed in a crash involving a car and a metro bus. it happened around 9:30 tonight. there were 40 passengers on the bus when it crashed. none of them was seriously injured. a person in the car was killed. police say they don't know yet what caused that crash. a disturbing attack in virginia. three girls were robbed at gunpoint yesterday. one of them was sexually

assaulted. tonight, they're sharing their story. they want the attacker arrested. erica gonzalez has our report. >> in an exclusive interview, two teens tell us what happened on their walk home in this dumphries area. >> she starts walking towards her house and i start walking towards my house. then i get a text from her saying we're getting robbed, come on now. >> reporter: held at gunpoint for the very little they had. the suspect used a black and silver handgun to stop the girls in their tracks, even pointing the gun at each of them. >> yeah, i got a chance to talk to them. they're -- they will never be the same. >> reporter: the suspect took the youngest of the girls into this wooded area and asoughted her. . >> reporter: sirens were going, lights were flashing and as the youngest girl ran, so did the suspect.

the girls say service surreal. in all, the gunman stayed with them about 20 minutes. >> i don't think it was meant to be a robbery. i any his intentions were to rape all of us. >> reporter: investigators spent the day canvassing the area even going around on horse back to try and find out who this man is. this is a sketch of who they're looking for. 5'8" to 5'10". wearing a large, dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and a dark bandanna or a ski mask of sorts covering his face. >> once you're in that situation and you see the barrel of the gun, a whole different person takes over you. >> in dumphries, ericag go gonz, news 4. >> the u.s. attorney's office says the suspect is one of the most dangerous terrorists the u.s. has seen since 9/11. his name is quasi nafis.

he was arrested after contacting an f.b.i. informant. prosecutors say he had already reached out to others ablt building a terror cell and the authorities got lucky. the u.s. attorney said, in his words, nothing was going to stop him. >> a 61-year-old driver is facing charges for causing a crash that killed a prince george george's county police officer yesterday. his vehicle smashed up against a light pole. police say officer bowden was speeding and not wearing a seat belt. >> it's terrible to watch an officer that you have an attachment with that you know his mom, his dad, his children, the people that he worked with, everybody loved him. >> officer bowden had two young children. funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized.

tonight, dozens got together to remember a young boy who was murdered a year ago. william mcqueen was brutally beaten and his mother's estranged husband is now awaiting trial. shomari stone with the story. >> we thank you for the blessing that we had a chance to get to know this kid. >> reporter: a prayer vigil in german town. >> allow us to recognize, you know, life is short. >> a life taken a year ago. police say his stepfather, curtis lopez killed william and his mother. she was his estranged waif. after missing for a week, searchers found william's body in the wood. he's comforted to see 200 people honor his teammate and friend. >> it wasn't just our team coming out to support him. it was the whole germantown association. >> the coach and the team wear t

a man from columbia maryland is faces charching for secretly video taping two women if their condo. someone recognized him and called police. police say he stole their key and made a copy of it. police say when he set up the hidden camera and went back several times to adjust the lens. at one point, he accidentally taped himself. another major cocaine bust last night. it is the fifth time in five weeks customs and border protection agents have seized drugs coming in from guatemala. this time, it was more than three kilos of pure cocaine, a street value of up to a million dollars chl. it was hidden inside belts that were glued together. agents say it's all part of a larger increase into drug trafficking at dulles. >> we've definitely seen a rise

here. this year alone, more than 50 pounds of heroin and another 52 pounds of cocaine. >> this courier was returned to atemala and barred from reentering the u.s. for five years. tonight, those controversial full body scanners are being removed from major aports. there's word the tsa has fired dozens of screeners because of what they didn't do. >> reporter: they were tsa check points. so called back scanner machines that use tinemy amounts of radiation. despite assurances from the tsa that the radiation levels are low and safe, many travelers have remained concerned. >> it's always been an issue for

women, especially if there is pregnant women going through the body scanners. >> reporter: tsa supervisors have complained to nbc news that the back scanner machines tend to break down causing long dela delays at check points. today, the back scanner scanners are m coing out of some major airports, including j.f.k., o'hare and l.a.x. and moved to smaller airports to be replaced by millimeter wave scanners that use radiowaves instead of radiation. the tsa says it's an effort of security technology. it shod speed things along. meanwhile, at newark air port, 52 tsa screeners and managers have been fired or suspended after an internal investigation found they weren't following procedures. >> the only way to fix this is to bring in new people immediately. that means supervisors and

managers. >> reporter: with 50,000 tsa screeners, the agency says it has zero tolerance for misconduct. >> the maker of banana boat sun skren is recalling half a million bottles of ultra miss. this happens after a handful of people caught on fire. 23 different variations of that spray are being pulled from store shelves. the problem appears to be with the lotion spray valve which they say is over-applying the product. >> i've got some f that at home right now. that's going out. >> i'll tell you a good place for it. boy, really did come through here, didn't it? >> and a lot of people saying did you guys see this coming? the honest truth to that is a few showers.

we got more than a few showers. some areas picked up close to an ichblg of rain. it was right along the i-95 corridor. and it came right around rush hour this etching. right arnold 5:00, 6:00 across the area. when you got hit once, it got hit again. it didn't want to stop for a couple of hours. out there right now, out at the airport, currently sitting into the 60s. winds were fairly light out of the south burr that did help us to get to 76. some areas, as i mentioned, saw even more than that. temperature right now, 60 degrees. that's the new low temperature for today. wind out of the southwest at about 3 miles per hour. we're going to see that winld start to shift around a little bit. 54 in martinsburg. here's where the cooler air is, back to the west. petersburg, west virginia.

50 degrees in culpepper. here's the rain, you can see what happened. over the last six hours, we saw nothing. >> the storms got stronger up toward the baltimore area. they did have some damage in parts of baltimore county. for us, it was just a little bit of hail that we saw. but no real big damage. and that's some very good news from us. now, the live pick which you are showing that the rain is out of here. but the storm is not quite done with us. first off, how much did we see? about a half an inch of rain, just over half an inch. right over the alexandria area. up towards baltimore, storms got a little stronger. the storm we've been talking about is a monster storm: it is huge. we're not done with the cold air. this is very cold air aloft and it's going to move right over us
