i'm pat lawson muse. >> and i'm jim handly. the wheels have officially come off on the career of lance armstrong today. for decades he reigned on top of the sport of cycling overcoming a number of difficult conditions. >> but now doping allegations have tarnished his golden image and erased his tour de france titles. >> reporter: he became a legend by conquering the rugged mountains of the mostrueling bike race. now it seems lance armstrong faces an even tougher road. >> lance armstrong has no place in cycling. >> reporter: today the international cycling union officially removed armstrong from the sport he once ruled and the record books. >> usi will strip him from his seven tour de france titles. >> reporter: the governing body of cycling will also demand

armstrong return his medals and millions of dollars in prize money from those wins. exactly how much will be determined later this week. it's the latest fallout from a u.s. anti-doping agency report released earlier this month that outlined overwhelming evidence that lance armstrong was a kingpin in a doping program. nike, oakley, trek bikes, radio shack and anheuser-busch have all ended their relationship with armstrong, and last week the cancer survivor stepped down as the chair of his wildly successful livestrong foundation. he spoke at the charity's fund-raising gala this weekend in austin. >> it's been a difficult couple of weeks for me, for my family, for my friends, for this foundation. i get asked a lot, people say, man, how are you doing? and i say, and i say this every time, and i mean it, i say, i've

been better, but i've also been worse. >> reporter: armstrong has steadfastly denied using performance enhancing drugs and says he will continue to work closely with his cancer foundation. jay gray, nbc news. we are following a developing story. the food and drug administration is now investigating reports of five deaths linked to monster energy drinks. this follows a recently filed wrongful death suit by the family of a maryland teenager, 14-year-old aniece died last december after her family members said she drank two monster energy drinks. her autopsy said she died from arhytishythmi arhythmia. they said they don't believe their products caused any deaths. shares of the company tumbled 13% on wall street today. for people who live or work

weather. if you look out there, you can see the gorgeous fall colors in the distance. the temperatures rning a couple of degrees above average. you can see throughout the area, we're in the 70s, low 70s throughout from damascus and sandy spring at 72 degrees. stafford coming in right now at 73 degrees. and hyattsville at 72. here's some of that fall color i was telling you about. kemptown, maryland, seeing a lot of reds and yellows. we're going to talk more about that coming up in how clear our sky is. temperatures tonight will be dropping. we'll talk about how low we're going to go and what that is that we haven't seen since early october. new developments today if the mass shooting in wisconsin. this afternoon, we're learning that one of the people killed in that day spa was the wife of the gunman. police say 45-year-old radcliffe hawton shot two people before

turning the gun on himself. chris clackum has the story. >> reporter: in suburban milwaukee sunday, a gunman walked in and opened fire. radcliffe howton's first victim was his estranged wife, whose actions before being shot are described as heroic. >> at that point, zina jumped, walked right in front of the reception area and took on a leadership role. >> reporter: witness betty bruner, one of zina's customers, told wtmj in a phone interview that zina fearlessly intervened when radcliffe entered and pulled out a gun. >> and just kept trying to talk him through it. trying to prevent him from going after other people. >> reporter: she said howton dragged zina to a nearby hallway

and started shooting, killing her and two others, wounding four others before turning the gun on himself. >> it could take days, weeks, to figure this all out. >> reporter: but already police know that zina had been granted a restraining order just last week after her husband was arrested for slashing her tires. in getting it, she told the court, his threats terrorize my every waking moment. chris clackum, nbc news. the latest polls show the presidential race could not be any closer. it all could come down to tonight. president obama and mitt romney will face off in their third and final debate. both candidates will be trying to break the tie. the debate will be taking place tonight at lynn university in boca raton, florida. that's where steve handelsman joins us. >> reporter: we've already got a surprise here at boca, jim, in terms of what we expect from the

debate. you said it, it could come down to this debate. just a few months ago, nobody figured that. this was shaping up as either lopsided, after all, any president has more experience in foreign affairs, and not a sleeper, but not anymore. and in this stays it makes it all the more a high stakes drama. president obama arrived in florida trailing by 2%, down five points since the first debate. >> florida could easily go for romney. >> reporter: national hi now it's a tie. >> if the president can get the enthusiasm from hispanics and young voters, he can win election. >> reporter: governor romney will be in the clash or foreign policy. he's sure to press on libya charging the president tried to cover up an al qaeda attack. and on iranian nuclear weapons, romney will vow to be tough, but not rush to war.

council chambers in northwest. that site is open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on saturday early voting expands to other locations. maryland residents can vote starting this saturday and through november 1st. absentee voting has been under way in virginia for weeks now and that will last until three days before the election. a tough finish and loss on two fronts for the redskins, after that wild game against the super bowl champion new york giants. rg3 was elated after late in the game. a giant comeback. eli manning threw a 77-yard touchdown pass to cruz. the redskins would end up losing 27-23. they danced in our face there. team also lost a player to injury. fred davis tore his achilles and will miss the rest of the season. his replacement, a familiar face to redskins fans, number 47, chris cooley.

temperatures are going to go over the next few. outside right now, we've got the pretty blue sky. 73 is our current temperature at reagan international airport with a west wind at 7 miles per hour. this evening, we're talking about a light wind. look at the numbers throughout the area right now. 72 up north in mount airy, falls church, fairfax city, you're sitting at 70 degrees. 72 over in greenville, and down around afford. throughout the area right now, we're running several degrees above our average, which right now is at 66 grees. not a cloud to be found in the sky. pennsylvania, down through virginia, even north carolina, we do have some clouds that are making their way eastward through ohio, indiana. this little weather system here, that's the weather system that i'm going to be looking at closely over the next couple of days, because with an east wind, it could be providing our area with some cloud cover. but for tonight, clear skies indeed throughout. might see a few clouds, a few

high clouds tomorrow morning. in the mid-60s by 11:00 p.m. and midnight. not as cold tomorrow. starting out in the upper 40s to mid-50s throughout the area, right inside the beltway. we've got high pressure controlling our weather for today. that will slowly make its way eastward and out of here. then a weather front that's up to the north providing not only some cloud cover up through pennsylvania and new york, ohio, but also a few showers, too. and then with an easterly wind, we could see a few clouds around our area during the afternoon tomorrow. and also on wednesday. so tuesday and wednesday, that's what we can be looking at, just a few clouds coming through the area. our next chance of rain doesn't really come until the second half of the weekend. right now only a slight chance. wait until you see the seven-day forecast, for the best chance of rain. great evening. 64 to 69, with a light wind. tomorrow morning, we're partly sunny. we're cool, but still nice. again, not quite as cold. 44 to 54 degrees, which still,

australians are used to seeing kangaroos in the outback, but not used to seeing them at the airport. this young kangaroo was seen hopping around a fifth floor parking garage in mel boun. staffers learned it from a traveller who posted a picture on twitter. they called a wildlife officer who sedated the kangaroo with a tranquilizer gun. but he's okay. he spent the night at the clinic because his paws were so sore. he'll released back into the wild where it belongs. a man armed with a samurai

some sary molts for people in philadelphia after a tire mister usely came crashing through the roof. at first they thought it might have fallen off an airplane, but today we're learning that was not the case. deanna durante has the real story and more on the close call for people on the ground. >> unbelievable. >> reporter: what a way to start the morning for 30 students inside a housing authority training center. most of them heard the crash and didn't know what to make of the loud noises coming from the rooftop. >> we heard a boom. and i didn't know what it was, or where it came from. >> reporter: the building was evacuated as workers checked the rooftop. there they found a tire from a

tractor-trail tractor-trailer. it came loose from a semi in the eastbound lanes of the schuylkill expressway and bounced across four lanes of traffic, slamming into a car before flying through the air and landing on the training center roof. >> there was some damage to the roof. no one luckily was hurt. >> reporter: visible not just on the outside, but from inside. the tire punched a hole clear through the building before coming to rest. state police tell nbc 10 the tire fell from the tractor-trailer, and hit a honda accord that was in the westbound lanes. investigators say the truck didn't stop, but say the driver likely didn't know the tire came loose. the 26-year-old pregnant woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution. housing authority workers patched the hole in the roof telling nbc 10 its workers can expect the building to be open tomorrow. >> it appears to be a freak accident. >> reporter: the first call placed to fire indicated the tire fell from an airport. that simply isn't true. still, a bizarre

wooded area and sexually assaulted. >> so shocking for me. this is the first time that something like that happened just like 100 yards from here. >> reporter: this woman answered the door last night when a 21-year-old jogger knocked. the victim had been sexually assaulted on the trail in bethesda. this was the first house she came to. >> she was crying, because she wanted the paramedics to be here right away. i said, they are coming. >> reporter: police say the victim was attacked around 7:00 in the evening sunday, knocked out by a man who then sexually assaulted her. she was bleeding from a serious head wound. >> she remains in the hospital with a head injury. and she is in serious condition. >> reporter: police say the jogger was right in this area when she stopped to allow some deer to cross the path. that's when she was hit in the back of the head. the victim lost consciousness and when she woke up she realized she had been dragged
