firefighters have been told to evacuate the building. >> this is happening off morse street. derrick? >> reporter: >> yeah, this fire started a little over an hour ago. this is the union market. i'm going to step out of the way and let you take a look at what's happening. the fire went to two alarms quickly after the firefighters arrived on the scene. they noticed smoke and flames in the walls and in the upper levels. this's when the order was given to pull out. there was recently a multi-milliion dollar renovation down to the structure. there were about a dozen businesses here in the district. two alarms, many firefighters on the scene. we don't have any information. we do not believe that there was anyone inside or anyone injured or any firefighters injured at this point. right now, the concern is saving the structure and the dozen or so businesses that are here.

they're fighting this fire from both sides of the building. there's an alley shot that hopefully we'll be able to show you. at this point, firefighters have put up a snorkel hose which will allow them to bring water in fro above the structure. maybe knock the fire down that way. again, no word on the cause of this fire. it broke out about an hour ago. as we say, this wen to two alarms very quickly. firefighters were told to get out of there for their own safety. we're live in northeast, news 4, back to you. >> thanks, derrick. another top story tonight. as the flood waters fell from hurricane sandy, the death toll continues to climb. >> the super storm has claimed 72 lives. in staten island, new york, many are found dead, trapped inside their home. new video from connecticut shows

coping with it all. >> three days, posts sandy, and kingsburg, new jersey is still like other bay shore communities. in crisis mode. roads still have standing water, and sand debris. fresh scars of the sudden invasion. >> i can't believe the destruction. it's unbelievable. >> emotions raw at the sight of so much lost. >> it was beautiful. and everything was -- we just moved in. well, we just closed. so new couch, new fridge, you know. >> reporter: elizabeth can trace the path, the beach and bay water took right through her brand new ground floor. >> a lot of memories right there. >> across town, the surge wiped out the famous boardwalk amusic park home to iconic rides and games. now scattered and shattered. a family-owned operation, three

generations old. >> my father had a vision and redeveloped it as a resort area and an amusement area. as you can look around you, it's taken a significant hit. we've had terrible devastation down here through the times. but he rebuilt it. and true to his vision, i'll rebuild it. we'll make it happen. >> and that process began in a small way today, literally picking up the pieces of this place on the streets around here. he says he hopes to be open in time for next summer. it may be an ambitious goal, but that's his plan. >> even though sandy has moved on from our area. we're still feeling the effect. storm chief four meteorologist with more on the conditions. >> doreen, we're going to continue to see these conditions through the next couple of days. sandy is moving through very, very slowly. we're going to continue to see

me they are on edge. that couple was walking right behind me on this trail when all of the sudden, people tell me that the man shown in this composite sketch right here, he's in his 20s. they say that he opened fire. with children and families out trick-or-treating, county sheriff's deputies are on alert in waldorf, maryland friday night. >> we don't have to be so scared. >> it was pretty cool to see them out in full force. >> despite a detailed description, police are still searching for clues and answers. >> the charles county sheriff's office and the detectives are leaving no stone unturned.

investigators are looking for 25-year-old lawrence stuart, ii. he is suspected of throwing homemade pipe bombs into three different houses in staff ford county and in fredericksburg, yesterday. his intended targets were his exgirlfriend and two police officers who previously had arrested him for indecent exposure and domestic violence. >> travel in and around new york no longer at a standstill in the after math of that big storm. but it is sirnly a headache for those trying to get back to work. cars choked the street today despite car pooling orders in place. >> there could be some relief for commuters tomorrow as limited subway service will

let's go and do the weather. it is cold, doreen. take a look out there right now. for the kid in all of us, as we look out through this beautiful shot, it is a nice night, but a cool night. techtures tonight only in the 40s across the area. but not too bad. a lot of kids out and about. everybody had on at least one extra layer. 49 degrees, the temperature out there right now. what we're looking at as far as rainfall is concerned, we saw a lot of rainfall today. i think we're about done with the rain. nothing going on right now. high temperatures only in the 40s. 48, 48 martinsburg, 55 in washington. 56 in fredericksburg. temperatures today, 5-10 degrees below average. and, as we look toward the temperatures right now, we're still below average.

the low to mid 40s, where most of us are. 46 in martinsburg. 44 in taxpayer river. satellite radar, the storm system known as sandy just continues to spin across our region and will continue to bring us this northwesterly flow. and what happens as it piles all the moisture and all of the clouds to the west of the mountains. you can see that moisture poiling up, but on the east side, it starts to dry out a little bit. we will see drier conditions. i do think we'll be seeing more cloud cover. here's your future weather, showing that area of low pressure, sandy, making its way out of here very slowly. still cool tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies. the snow stays back towards the western portion of the mountain. and we will see some clouds tomorrow. but, once again, i think plenty of sunshine. at least to start. we may start with some sunshine and the clouds go back in. by friday, rather breezy and cool conditions.

but the breeze is going to make things feel even cooler. high temperatures in the mid 50s. et's going to be another cool day. that's the way we're going to stay probably for the next 7-10 days. a chilly start. temperatures about 45-51 degrees. looking better. temperatures 52-57, winds out of the west. as we move on to the next couple of days, this is what i'm talking about. highs only in the mid 50s with lows in the 30s, both friday morning and saturday morning. and then, as we look towards next week, temperatures in the mid 50s again. don't forget to set your clocks back on saturday niet. as we lose one hour -- >> no, we gain an hour. >> yes, you gain an hour. but you set the clocks back, though. and then you gain an hour and turn the clocks back. >> they were wearing masks.
