nothing. broadwell hasn't spoken publicly since word of her affair with c.i.a. director procmpb prompte resign last week. allen's name, now also linked to tampa socialite jill kelly, the woman who told the f.b.i. about threatening e-mailstraced to pa biographer. the f.b.i. stumbled onto what was called potentially inappropriate. so did allen and his wife from their time in tampa. officials characterized some of the e-mails as flirtatious. but general allen, through his spokesman, has strongly denied

that the two were having an affair. >> the president has put on hold general allegation pending the investigation of general allen's conduct by the department of defense. >> kelly's relationship with both generals came into play with the bitter child custody case that played out in d.c. both men writing letters to the court vouching for her. as for broadwell, she's apparently sticking to her fitnefi fitness regime. the washington post reporting someone fou someone found her north carolina driver's license in rock creek park yesterday and turned the license over to authorities. live in northwest d.c., jim rosenfield, news 4. >> thanks, jim, our other big story tonight, a local teenager tied to two big, high profile

murders. shomari stone is in waldorf with more on this story. >> reporter: jim, d.c. police got a tip in the cab driver case and came right here to the waldorf maryland murder that occurred on this trail on october 26 with theresa bass. now, tonight, people who live in this neighborhood are stunned. they're shocked that the murder suspect in both cases is linked to what happened in their quiet community. tonight, 17-year-old joshua mcbain is in jail suspected of fatally shooting a cab driver last week and gunning down theresa bass last month. >> investigators just got the call they were hoping for. a break from the case. >> reporter: d.c. police helped sheriff's detectives break the case. they got a tip in the cab driver murder investigation claiming joshua shot theresa and her husband, jerry, a montgomery county firefighter while they walked their dog on this trail. jerry has been released from the hospital and his neighbor's

wife, a nurse, is helping him recover. >> my wife has been working, dressing his wounds and we just kind of pull eed together as a community to heal. >> reporter: the teen's neighbors are stunned. >> shocked. i wouldn't have expected nothing like that has ever happened. >> reporter: over the weekend, deputies searched the suspect's home and they say they found the gun that was allegedly used to kill theresa bass. >> it was ballistically checked and it was a ballistic match. >> reporter: investigators tell me his girlfriend was not involved in the killing of theresa bass. but she is in jail, charged with the murder of the cab driver. now, according to court documents, the motive for the taxi cab murder was robbery. however, investigators are still

trying to determine the motive for the murder of theresa bass. >> three people were shot tonight at a b.p. gas station in ast. it happened about 7:30 off of benning road. right now, it's not clear just what led up to the gunfire. one of the victims is said to be in serious condition, but none of the injuries are considered life threatening. >> former d.c. council chairman kwame brown is on house arrest for six months. it's part of the bank fraud conviction. as part of a plea deal, brown admitted to lying on loan documents and stepped down from the council in june. he's also sentenced to one day in police custody which he served today. >> a plea deal is off the table for the suspected east coast rapist. aaron thomas was supposed to be pleading guilty today for

attacking three teenagers on halloween in 2009. but the deal fell through when thomas told the judge he wasn't sure what was right or wrong. his trial will begin in january. >> two significant announcements in d.c. today. the first deals with schools. 20 public schools are to be slated to be shut down. many of them by the next school year. the goal is to close under-performing schools with low enrollment. most of them are ooesz of teast river in wards five and seven. none of the schools in wards one and three will be closed. parents say the news comes as a complete surprise. >> i'm shocked. my children have been going here for a while, for two years. and my daughter just started here. and there was no notice saying that this was a school that was supposed to close. this is crazy. >> public meetings are scheduled in order to get input from

parents. mayor grey will all the ultimately decide whether to approve the consolidation plan. the second announcement in d.c has to do with emergency care. d.c. fire and e.m.s. are moving forward with a plan to have f fewer ambulances in service during overnight hours. the proposal calls for none of the essential advanced, life-saving ambulances between 1:00 and 7:00 in the morning. basic response ambulances would be available on duty only at night. critics say the move could jeopardize lives. the fire chief says supervisors who are trained in advanced life-saving can arrive with those ambulances when needed. >> congress is back at work. and tomorrow, we will see whether the democrats and republicans can begin to compromise. they have about 7 weeks to reach a budget deal to head off huge increases called fiscal cliff. today, lawmakers seemed confident they will be able to reach a deal, but the

negotiations may last into the final hours of december 31st. tonight, work got under way to repave pennsylvania avenue in advance of the inauguration on january 21st. d-dot says it will take place during the overnight hours. it's going to affect bike lines, so cyclists and moet riss will have to share a stretch of pennsylvania between third and 14th streets during the project. >> they used to wait until the day after thanks ths thangiving black friday. but now, some of the retailers are going to open their doors on thanksgiving night. erica gonzalez is live now. >> reporter: as it seems like black friday gets earlier and earlier every year, it's not your imagination. it really is, for a lot of retailers. and there are a lot of people. hundreds of thousands of people

we're following a developing story in mississippi tonight. a small plane crashed into a house in jackson, mississippi. that set off a huge fire. at least one person got out of that house with only minor injuries. it is not clear whether anyone else was inside. a plane had just taken off and the pilot asked for permission to return to the airport. police have not released the conditions of the three people on board the plane. >> the underaged sex allegations against elmo puppeteer kech clash are put to rest tonight. the 23-year-old man who initially claimed he was 16 years old when he had a relationship with clash has taken his story back, all of it. through his lawyer, he now characterizes the relationship as the same way clash did as

adult and consensual. both clash and "sesame street" called the allegations unsubstantiated. >> a sdwrjudge sentenced a woma cleveland to carry a sign for the past two days. he calls her an idiot for driving passed a school bus on the sidewalk. the bus driver says the woman did that several times over the past two weeks. he finally video taped it. the case went to trial. arden was ordered to pay a $250 fine but the judge ordered a sign-holding sentence because arden showed no remorse during the trial. >> tonight, an international effort could make you safer by making your smart phone less attractive to thieves. u.s. and mexican cell providers will refuse to activate a stolen phone thanks to a resolution signed in d.c. today. the theft of cell phones and

portable electronic devices has increased 54 percent since 2007. arrests haven't stopped the crime. so now there's an effort to take away the profit from the stolen phones. >> drivers are now just a hours away for paying for a faster route. it was a ribbon cutting project for lanes that officially open on saturday. they are free for car pools who have three or more people. otherwise, you have to pay a toll. supporters say it's a long awaited solution to ease congestion in northern virginia. critics have said that the lanes are unfair for those who can't afford those tolls. >> if ever there was a mismatch, olympic gold medallist returned to the high school today for her first swim meet since the london

little bit earlier this afternoon. yep, of course everybody down there warned not to look directly at it. that is amazing. i've only seen a few of these in my lifetime, one of which i was in the third grade over there in berks center. that is kwiet amazing on that day. out there today, we saw a high temperature of 65 degrees. you look at that number and say it didn't feel like 65. that was actually just after midnight about 24 hours ago, the low was 43. the new low is now sitting at 40 degrees. that's where we sit currently out at the airport at 13 miles an hour. so between last night at 12:30 and tonight and 11:30 or about 11:30, that is a 25 degree temperature drop. gaithersburg below or at the freezing mark. winchester, 36. 40 in fredericksburg. the warm spots, right along the bay. radar? no rain to show you. we're not going to be seeing any

chance of rain over the next couple of days. our storm system that gave us the rain and the sleet very early this morning has moved out of here. what you're looking at is clear skies and some cold air. notice these clouds here? this is really cold air that continues to make its way down from the north in through parts of pittsburgh, areas like that. so the cold air is here. but breezy conditions, that's what we saw earlier today. starting to settle down just a little bit, but even a five mile an hour wind will give you a little windchill. we will see sunshine tomorrow and plenty of it before we start to see some clouds from the south. still going to be rather school. then, turn your temperatures down to the south. we're going to go mostly cloudy during the day on thursday. a coastal storm will develop on friday. this one will move out to see. we'll see more clouds on thursday and friday. the next coastal storm, however, could have big implications from washington through philly up through new york. one more time, it could also have some problems out there on the roadways, especially i-95

and those coastal areas over the next few days, too. we're going to be talking about that the next few days. clear and cold tomorrow morning. coat wills be needed. and, for some, it's everything you've got. the coat, the gloves, the scarf, the hats, it's going to be cold. tomorrow afternoon, even with some sunshine. north winds at 10-15. that's going to make it feel even colder. if you can stay in the sunshine, that's the best place to be. saturday, a high of 54. we'll see partly to mostly cloudy skies each day. and then, again, watching that coastal storm that could bring us rain and wind on sunday, monday and possibly into tuesday. could be some travel implications there if you're thinking about taking off. next week is thanksgiving. next week is thanksgiving.
