benghazi, libya. he'll testify before the house and senate intelligence committees separately. the house began hearings yesterday on attacks which heard killed four people, including ambassador chris stevens. republicans accuse the obama administration of ignoring warning signs that could have prevented the tragedy. >> the people back at state here in washington continue to deny additional security, and they continue to do away with security that was already there. >> to put this, lay this at the doorstep of the president or the secretary of state or the united nations ambassador, you will find us ready and willing to resist to the teeth. >> petraeus' testimony will come one week after he resigned as head of the cia because of an extramarital affair. democrats and republicans say he is still credible when it comes to discussing national security. the cia still plans on

looking into petraeus' conduct. the agency is opening what it calls an exploratory investigation. nbc news has learned that acting cia director mike morrell ordered the investigation to make sure that petraeus did not use any agency resources improperly. the fbi has already cleared the general of mishandling classified information. the fbi says his mistress paula broadwell had classified information, but it came from researching petraeus' career for his biographer. they spoke to broadwell three weeks ago about the information. they finally told intelligence director james clapper about their investigation four days later. melissa mollet live at the live desk in the middle east. >> a cease fire between israel and the gaza strip has now collapsed as palestinians continue cross-border attacks and israelis launch additional air strikes.

rockets from gaza hit several sites on southern israel. israel spopded with the attack on the house of the hamas commander. egypt's prime minister is visiting the gaza strip. there might actually be a live picture. more than two dozen people have been killed in the past three days of fierce fighting between militants in those areas. five of those killed, children. at the live desk, melissa mollet, news 4. violence in the middle east sparking large protests in our region. last night two groups made their voices heard outside the white house. one crowd gathered in support of israel. the other pro-palestinian. secret service police and a metal fence were all that separated the two groups. >> we walked from the state department to the white house because of the united states' stance with the state of israel. >> we have heard rumors that there would be an anti-israel protest in front of the state department that would end at the white house, so we figured we would come here and support israel. >> despite their differences,

both groups seem to agree the violence must stop in order to bring peace. monday marked three weeks since hurricane sandy slammed into the east coast. this morning there is still a lot of cleanup to do, especially in new york and new jersey, where the storm made landfall and caused the most damage. today homeland secretary janet napolitano will visit the field office. it comes just a day after president obama toured the damage on new york's staten island. and dramatic video of what it was like in new york city just as sandy made land fall. the port authority just released this surveillance video of water gushing into the some of the busiest subway stations. the water sent 20 foot waves slamming into manhattan, seriously damaging the city's 8 100-year-old subway. you are just one day away from being able to cruise by traffic. the express lanes open tomorrow.

they'll run between springfield and the dulles toll road. here's the promise. you'll be able to go at least 45 miles per hour even at rush hour, and that is thanks to varying tolls that change based on congestion and could cost as much as $1 a mile. you'll need an ez pass to ride the lanes, and you can avoid the toll by getting an ez pass flex and car pooling with three or more people. the lane is open to one special driver today. santa will ride the lanes in a tesla roadster convertible on his way to his workshop at tyson's corner. soon you'll be able to find out about delays on metro as you are entering the station. the transit agency is installing flat screen displays at the entrances to stations that will show time, broken escalators, and the status of all five lines. all the screens should be up and showing realtime information by the end of the year. and you can already plan for

some delays this weekend on four of metro's five lines. starting tonight at 10:00, there will be single tracking on the red line between takoma and forest glen and between stadium armory and addison road on the blue line. tonight and sunday only there will be single tracking on the orange line between east and west falls church. and tomorrow expect single tracking on the blue and yellow lines between pentagon city and reagan national airport. everything should be back to normal by monday morning. we could learn as early as this morning whether hostess will dismantle operations after a labor strike. the company gave employees until 5:00 last night to return to work. or else it would file a motion to liquidate or shut down operations forever. if the company decides to do that, the company could shut down sometime next week, putting 18,000 people out of work. we've been talking about making a run on twinkies. should we do it today. is today the day? >> we'll talk about it. >> we have to come up with a

pilots complained about becoming dizzy at the controls. the air force blamed the problem on a shortage of oxygen delivered to pilots. they said this summer the air force was starting to lift flight restrictions on the f-22s. this morning president obama finally sits down with congressional leaders to try to reach a budget deal. leaders from both parties will come to the white house to start negotiations to avoid the fiscal cliff. the president and congress have to reach a deal by the end of the year to avoid steep tax hikes and spending cuts that could plunge us into another recession. some prominent republicans are distancing themselves from comments mitt romney made this week about the election. the gop nominee blames his loss, in part, on what he calls gifts president obama had given to blacks, hispanics, and young people. louisiana governor bobby jindal called the comments dumb. he suggested republicans need to

modernize their party to win in future elections. republican governor scott walker also refuted the claim. attorneys want to delay mike mcqueary's defamation lawsuit. mcqueary testified he saw sandusky attack a boy in penn state's showers in 2001. sandusky is serving 15 to 30-year sentence for abusing young boys. thelma jarrett is the principal at coolidge high school in d.c. police say jarrett and two other school employees attacked a woman during a high school football game earlier this month. the victim's husband says he has no idea what led to that attack. >> she don't know why she was attacked. she was punched, blind sided.

and kicked after that. i just want justice, outrage. >> right now jarrett is on administrative leave from her job at coolidge as the investigation continues. police need help finding the man in this photo. they say he recently assaulted a teenage fwigirl in the bathroom a public library. last week police say he watched a 17-year-old girl who was studying at the jefferson library in falls church. when she tried to hide in the ladies room, police say he followed her in and assaulted her. if you see this man, you're asked to call fairfax county police. parents are joining a loud chorus of people pushing to keep 20 schools open in the district. d.c. chancellor kaya henderson proposed closing the schools this week. henderson said the money is the primary reason for the closures. she said there's too few students in too many schools. some parents say closing their schools could hurt the community. >> i understand there are going to be some tough decisions that

they have to face, but i'd like to look at a way to keep schools that are on the rise, keep them open. >> henderson propose e ed renti out buildings once the students are out. d.c. mayor and the chancellor are expected to make a decision soon. a doctor left a drill bit in a woman's foot after surgery. a spokesperson for medstar montgomery medical center says the doctor and the hospital immediately addressed the situation when they learned about it. in a statement, the hospital says they maintain a rigorous quality assurance review. the patient is from rockville and plans to sue the doctor and the hospital for malpractice. doctors say a 13-year-old boy's quick thinking saved his mother's life. bridget was driving home from cape corral when she began

york avenue, nice and clear. no issues to report. i'm back in ten minutes. aaron and eun, back over to you. >> thank you, danella. we now know it's not a technical glitch that stopped trains. according to the "washington examiner," human error caused that problem. specifically a communications breakdown in the control center. trains were supposed to keep running another hour when daylight savings time ended on november 4th. instead, passengers were left stranded at stations early in the morning when trains never arrived. the warning period is over. you will now be fined if you're caught on camera speeding in one part of takoma park. police set up two portable speed cameras near carroll avenue. there is one camera in both directions. police are targeted drivers for going 12 miles or more over the speed limit. officers say the goal is to reduce the chances of an accident in that area. you're going to get people who are saying it's a money maker that keeps that argument going. 4:54 is our time right now.

after 12 years, construction crews finally broke ground on cathedral commons in northwest d.c. the $100 million retail project sits on wisconsin avenue. that development has been delayed because of zoning fights and lawsuits. it will include a new giant store three times the size of the previous ones is scheduled to open in 2014. the daily mail says many walmart employees are threatening their biggest walkout ever in stores across the country on black friday, including d.c. there's no word on exactly which stores will see walk-outs, but it's only expected to be a small percentage of stores nationwide. can you imagine? >> it would be awful for a lot of people, i would imagine.
