looking into petraeus' conduct. the agency is opening what it calls an exploratory investigation. nbc news has learned that acting cia director mike morrell ordered the investigation to make sure that petraeus did not use any agency resources improperly. the fbi has already cleared the general of mishandling classified information. the fbi says his mistress paula broadwell had classified information, but it came from researching petraeus' career for his biographer. they spoke to broadwell three weeks ago about the information. they finally told intelligence director james clapper about their investigation four days later. melissa mollet live at the live desk in the middle east. >> a cease fire between israel and the gaza strip has now collapsed as palestinians continue cross-border attacks and israelis launch additional air strikes.

pilots complained about becoming dizzy at the controls. the air force blamed the problem on a shortage of oxygen delivered to pilots. they said this summer the air force was starting to lift flight restrictions on the f-22s. this morning president obama finally sits down with congressional leaders to try to reach a budget deal. leaders from both parties will come to the white house to start negotiations to avoid the fiscal cliff. the president and congress have to reach a deal by the end of the year to avoid steep tax hikes and spending cuts that could plunge us into another recession. some prominent republicans are distancing themselves from comments mitt romney made this week about the election. the gop nominee blames his loss, in part, on what he calls gifts president obama had given to blacks, hispanics, and young people. louisiana governor bobby jindal called the comments dumb. he suggested republicans need to

modernize their party to win in future elections. republican governor scott walker also refuted the claim. attorneys want to delay mike mcqueary's defamation lawsuit. mcqueary testified he saw sandusky attack a boy in penn state's showers in 2001. sandusky is serving 15 to 30-year sentence for abusing young boys. thelma jarrett is the principal at coolidge high school in d.c. police say jarrett and two other school employees attacked a woman during a high school football game earlier this month. the victim's husband says he has no idea what led to that attack. >> she don't know why she was attacked. she was punched, blind sided.
