15-year-old girl missing since the day after christmas. take a look here at megan louise knight from woodbridge. she was last seen wearing black and pink pants missing since december 26th. no crash or credit cards with her. anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call investigators. melissa mollet, news 4. former arizona congresswoman gabrielle giffords will be in newtown, connecticut attending a private event in honor o of the sandy hook elementary shooting. a gunman killed 20 students and six staff members. giffords was shot in the head two years ago in tucson, arizona. six others in the shooting died including a 9-year-old girl. the gunman there, jarod lee loughner was sentenced to life in prison back in november. today the house will decide whether to approve billions of dollars in aid for hurricane sandy victims. it's worth more than $9 billion.

it's up for discussion days after controversy for delaying the emergency funding. the money would pay flood insurance claims for more than $100,000 throughout the northeast. without it, this he would go unpaid. the house did not vote on it before adjourning for the new session. much of the frustration over the delay of the sandy disaster bill has been directed at house speaker john boehner. even so, his colleagues voted to keep him as speaker of the house yesterday. the representative from ohio was given the top job even despite several conservatives voting for someone else as the 113th congress came together for the first time. boehner said in a speech that the federal deficit is still a problem that lawmakers must address. 4:33 now. the december jobs report comes out today. the economy added about 146,000 jobs in november. analysts expect between 150 and 200,000 jobs were added last month. economists warn that the increase should be short-lived and the increase could be

related to the effects -- aftereffects of hurricane sandy. now to a developing story. pnc bank is warning its customers about unusually high volume of traffic online. the bank says the uptick in online traffic is consistent with threatened cyber attacks. pnc says it's taken steps to block the traffic. the bank says this is an access issue, not an issue of account security. as a result, the bank says some customers may not be able to log in to their online bank accounts. a total of water main breaks for 2012 was the lowest in six years according to the washington post. 2211 pipes broke or leaked in d.c., fairfax, and prince george's county last year. nearly 900 fewer than 2007. there was a small spike in december because of that cold snap. one of those breaks happened in arlington, virginia. crews spent the night working on a break along washington boulevard. the westbound lanes were closed

between kirkwood road and north lincoln street for a few hours as a precaution. they have since reopened. the redskins return to the post-season is just two days away. you can still get tickets to the match wrup with the seahawks. seats set aside for players have just come available on ticketmaster. the cheapest are $91 for several sections in the upper deck. that's better than stub hub where the cheapest are standing room only in the upper deck end zone. those are going tore $85. if you are curious, about the more expensive tickets, $3,000 on stub hub for a seat in the dream zone. that is the first row right near the 50 yard line with all you can eat service. >> if only. >> i tell you. if you were looking for a last minute deal on tickets, make sure it's not too good to be true. the better business bureau says scammers, as you might expect, are looking to make a quick balk off the playoffs.

this morning we're getting a look at new pictures of mars from nasa's curiosity rover. this photograph was taken on december 19th. now, two artists pieced the

black and white images together and added color to show what it might look like if you were standing on mars. another picture is generating some buzz online. this picture focuses in on a bright crumpled object on the ground. it's being dubbed martian flower. at first, scientists thought it was a piece of plastic that fell off the rover. when they looked a little closer, they say it appears to be part of the rock, not debris from the spacecraft. >> ooh. martian flower. >> kurt nielsen our director said you can see the plastic wrap next to it. >> we didn't send it there to litter all over mars. time for weather and traffic on the 1s. here's tom. >> good morning. here's the washington monument under a clear sky. at 4:41, we're starting off mostly clear but we have a few clouds north and west of the mountains. they'll be breaking up as the morning progresses. the all the areas in the dark blue are below freezing.

breathing. the 58-year-old has not been seen in public since last month when he underwent a fourth cancer operation in 18 months. according to representatives, that operation was a complicated one giving chavez unexpected bleeding and an infection. he's to be sworn in this month for another term in office. a parking lot showdown between a school board member and high school student is caught on camera. the school board member resigned after it. watch the teenager in the black pants was trying to save a parking spot for a friend who had recently given birth. that's when the driver of the white van struck her and pulled into the spot. the girl had scuff marks on her jeans but not hurt. the driver was the vice chair of the county school board where the teen attends classes. she resigned from that position and she's also charged with reckless conduct. a tragedy for two women from prince george's county. they were killed on jamaica's northern coast east of montego

bay. the car collided with a min you bus. two of the victims, claudette grant and vanessa brown were from upper marlboro, maryland. a third woman who died lived in new york. the driver of the car and another passenger survived. this morning, a former death row inmate in virginia is still in jail after a new legal challenge. yesterday an appeals court stepped in just before justin wolfe was supposed to become a free man. he was convicted of murder in 2002 but the conviction was overturned because of allegations of misconduct by the prosecution. a federal appeals court in richmond will hear the case later this month. a local elementary school changed its mind over over how to discipline a first grader who was suspended for pointing his finger at another student and reportedly saying pow. they rescind the suspension. the incident happened last month. the attorney said the family received support from across the country. expect to see more police officers in prince george's

county the next few weeks. that he they started a crackdown on crime. each night this month, app extra 125 officers will be on the streets. they'll patrol areas considered transforming neighborhoods in the county. this initiative started with a number of arrests in district heights last night. >> the arrests that we're generating and the contacts are really from citizen interaction. by talking to citizens and working with these patrol officers that are really from investigative units, the wave team, special assignment team. >> the department getting the extra officers from divisions like narcotics, gangs and traffic enforcement unit. police say their goal is not to cut down on crime but to get guns off the streets as well. >> 4:49 now. it's possible federal civilian workers could soob see a bump in pay. a federal pay freeze expires march 27th. earlier language in the deal tried to hold current salaries through this year. the senate never voted on that version. the new congress could once

again freeze pay as they negotiate a debt limit and spending cuts in the coming weeks. and virginia hopes to try to bring some new teachers into its classrooms. governor bob mcdonnell wants the state to take advantage of a national program called "teach for america." brings young teachers into struggling schools for two years. mcdonnell will ask the general assembly to bring the program this fall saying it will help close the achievement gap between students of different backgrounds. ten before the hour. when the redskins and seahawks face off on sunday, it will be a showdown between two of the best rookie quarterbacks in the league. rg3 of course and russell wilson. rg3 set the rushing record for a ook rookie quarterback and broke the passer rating record. meanwhile, wilson tied peyton manning's record for touchdowns last week with 26. like rg3, he can get it done with his legs with 489 yards and four rushing touchdowns this year. >> i definitely think we have

delays this weekend. on the red line, trains will single track between shady grove and twin book as well as between judiciary square and -- crews will be working on the silver line extension there. all the work set to start at 10:00 tonight. should be wrapped up in time for the monday morning commute. biking is more and more popular in d.c. the city is considered one of the most bike friendly places in the nation with growing numbers of bike lanes. many say there are some issues to address. illinois avenue and northwest could be the latest spot in the ti to see new bike lanes. but our cameras caught several cyclists running red lights, narrowly missing cars and breaking other traffic rules. people are worried with the influx of bike lanes, means more danger for cyclists and drivers. >> as someone who is active in the bicycle community. i recognize this. i try to tell people about it. >> it's important for folks to act predictably. follow the traffic laws.
