than six years ago, but later he recanted his confession. he said it came after he had asked for a lawyer. the appeals court agreed with that. prosecutors have not decided yet whether they will retry the case. tonight a guilty plead from a correction officer who admitted he didn't get help for an inmate who was hanging in his cell. that inmate, ronny white, had been in jail for less than two days after being charged with killing a police officer. prince george's county bureau chief trace use wilkins has more. tracee? >> mcintosh was charged with three federal charges in connection with the death of ronny white, but tonight he pled guilty to one of them. >> mr. mcintosh's guilty plea is perhaps more significant for what it does not say. it does not implicate mr. mcintosh in ronny white's death. >> reporter: today anthony mcintosh entered a guilty plea for one of the three federal charges he faced in connection

with the death of prisoner ronny white. >> ronny white's death was tragic, but anthony mcintosh did not harm, kill or cause the death of ronny white. >> reporter: in judge of 2008 white was found did ed in his cell shortly after being incarcerated. his death was first ruled a homicide, then later ruled a possible suicide. >> anthony mcintosh pleaded guilty to a crime called obstruction of justice the the justice was his false statement to a police officer on the day white died. >> reporter: he hid from cameras today. his attorneys say he is pleading guilty to lying about being the first to find white dead, but he is not pleading guilty to the federal charges that he violated white's civil rights by not trying to get him medical care or that he obstructed justice by filing a false report about the

happened in fairfax county since early in september. a retired firefights is being held as a hero after hess pulled a woman from a burning home. that fire started about 10:00 this morning on pond meadow lane. the former prince george's county firefighters ran to the house after he saw smoke coming out of there. he saw a dog frantically barking. the dog led him to the sliding glass door in the back. he looked inside and saw a disabled woman inside. that woman is now in the hospital with burns and smoke inhalation. the home is a total loss. firefighters say the fire was tough to put out because the woman was a hoarder. a fallen officer is being remembered for the way he helped people on and off the job. hundreds of people came to pay respects to officer chris young in woodbridge. he died on monday when his motorcycle was hit by a minivan. fellow officers say he served out a passion to make lives better. he was even a member of the

charity that raises money for families of fallen officers. >> it's very humbling to learn of an officer like chris young, someone of his caliber, who died in the line of duty. it just brings everything to light about why we do things. >> young's family said hess was sometimes reluctant to write a ticket. officer young will be buried tomorrow in a private sermon. somebody hijacked a car today. police say whoever it was stabbed the driver. it happened in the middle of a commute this morning. it happened loon canyon street in the columbia heights area. after stabbing the cabdriver, the man stole the cab. at this hour police are still trying to find it. it's a 2007 black chevy impala, d.c. tags, 019 39h. at chase ended up in prince

county firefighter is credited with saving a woman from a burning home today. it happened today on pond meadow lane in buoy. the firefighter says he followed smoke to a home. he said a barking dog helped him find the woman trapped inside. the woman is expected to survive. her home is destroyed. firefighters say she was a hoarder. funeral service today for officer chris young honored by hundreds of fellow officers in woodbridge, virginia. family and colleagues spoke about his passion for helping people. young was killed in a motorcycle accident on monday while responding to a call. michael crapo is a republican u.s. senator from idaho. in virginia today the lifelong mormon pleaded guilty to drunk driving. richard jordan was at the courthouse in alexandria when the senator issued a public and very personal apology. >> reporter: the senator says he

made a huge mistake. he admits he failed as a public servant and member of is the mormon church. >> i'm embarrassed to have to admit publicly that i failed. >> reporter: michael crapo came to court not as a u.s. senator, but a defendant. the idaho statesman pleaded guilty to a drunk drive arrest on december 23rd when an alexandria police officers saw crapo at a red light. he then failed a field sobriety test. he said earlier he was drinking vodka -- >> i occasionally have had alcoholic drinks in my apartment in d.c. it was a poor choice to use alcohol to relieve stress and went at odds with my personally held religious beliefs. >> reporter: crapo left court surrounded by hi wives and legal counsel. before he can shut the door on the ordeal where he said he wanted to clear up the night what happened. >> i wasn't out drying to a

particular destination. ed gotten restless, i could not sleep, i got in my car, i got out and drop 395 past the monuments, ended up in alexandria. >> reporter: crapo failed a field sobriety test, the guilty plea carries a suspended 180-day jail sentence, meaning he will not serve time if he complies with the court's ruling. there's also a $250 fine, and his driver's license will be suspended for a year. >> i'm grateful, truly grateful that no one was injured. >> reporter: crapo says he will comply with the punishment, but above all, he hopes to repair hess rip station and see repentance from the church of latter day saints. as part of his sentence, the senator must also attend an alcohol support program. he says he also wants to be a part of outreach and turn this negative experience into a positive one. in alexandria, richard jordan, news4. it was septembered this

afternoon to eight months in prison. a jury convicted adrian johnson last october of intoxication manslaughter. johnson crashed into another vehicle in brandywine back in 2011. 18-year-old lawrence guarder jur was the driver of the vehicle. he was killed in the accident. accused of killing his wife and her young son has reached a plea dealt curtis lopez entered what's called an al ford plea today. prosecutors say he stabbed his estranged wife back this 2011, and then he used a metal bat to beat her 11-year-old son william to death. >> this man should never walk the streets against a free man. he deserves to die in jail. we can't block somebody coming in and saying, i want to plead to guilty, which is what he did,

and the bottom line at the end of the day, there's snow distinction. he's been found guilty of everything. >> lopez will be sentenced in april. he's facing the possibility of life in prison without parole. a prince george's county employees is charged with using his position to extort money from a restaurant. the business owner complained to police about john brown, a building inspector with the department of environmental resources. he says brown threatened to take away the restaurant's permits unless he paid $1,000 a week to hire the inspector's band. police set up an undercover sting. >> an officer posed as the entertainment manager for the business. when the suspect came to the restaurant yesterday and demanded money from the undercover officer, he was placed under arrest. >> brown is now on administrative leave. the police department is asking anyone else who may have had similar issues with brown to get in touch with them. this was a record year for gun sales in virginia. people there bought more guns in 2012 than ever before.

state gun statistics show that more han 432,000 firearms were sold in the state in 2012. that's up 35% from the year before. it is the largest spike in gun sales in two decades in virginia. in december alone, sales were up nearly 80%. analysts say they're ooh people are afraid of tighter gun laws. virginia repeal it's one handgun a month law over the summer. the director of the reston zoo will spend 30 days in jail after pleading guilty. she was found guilty back in september, but appealed her conviction. under today's plea deal, along with jail time, she can no longer make decisions about the care or euthanasia of any animals if she serves as an animal care taker. her father owns the zoo.

forecast. plus what to expect for next week. general motors is recalling it affects the cadillac escalade, the gmc sierra and chevy tahoe. also included are the suburban, the avalanche, the express and the gmc savannah and yukon. gm officials say those trucks may have been built with faulty park lock cables or malformed steering column lock gears. they can easily be shifted out of park even in the ignition key is in the off position. owners can take their vehicles to a certified dealer to replace the steering column and do that free of charge. 2012 was the worst year for whooping cough since 1955. about 42,000 cases were reported last year, but that number could rise to as many as 50,000, because the centers for disease

elected to congress. the former congressman is now the president and ceo of a nonprofit trade association, but still keeps a closite on his former team. he was selected to seven pro bowls and still the seahawks all-time leading receiver. so with the majority of his life spent between seattle and d.c., it makes you wonder who is he rootic for? >> my loyalties are not divided at all. i'm 100% a seahawk, always have been and always will be, so i'm looking forward to this weekend's game. i think it would be a real schalening for the seahawks to get a win in washington. they're on a roll, and that's important when you're going into the playoffs, that you get on that roll and kind of development some confidence in your ability to play. so the seahawks have their hands full this weekend, for you are shall, but they've got a rookie quarterback of their own, a good running attack, and their defense is really plays outstanding ball. that's the thing i think will be
