the best chance of light accumulation. starting off to the west. in rocking complain ham, stafford, charles county, in the areas of southern maryland, st. mary's, calvert, on down to the south. that the include culpepper, to could be be a big mohr. on the radar, storm team 4 radar, mainly to the south of our area. in fact, you can see the bubble there? just east of charlottesville, that's luisa, where there have been some records of a bit of snow coming down. we've had reports of a bill of sleet, too, but the bigger radar, you can see an area of low pressure in northeastern georgia. that's what will be moving east-northeastward, so it doesn't move directly over us. it's going to stay to our south.

by the time we're doing with the system, the best chance of snowfall before 9:00 p.m., then pretty much it's all east. it does seem to an inch around manass manassas. around areas of louray, la plata maybe an inch of snow. our temperatures a big story not for today, but for tomorrow. we're in the low 40s right now. we'll drop down into the 30s. in a couple minutes, i'll tell you about the possibility of any slick roads for tomorrow morning, and just how low those temperatures will go, something we haven't felt yet this winter. back to you. >> anytime bad weather is in the forecast, one of the biggest concerns is the condition of the roads. right now, vdot crews are out, pretreating highways in fredericksburg and other parts of virginia. news4's northern virginia bureau reporter david culver is in fredericksburg.

what do you have out there for us? >> reporter: pat, right now we're starting to see the cold rain turn into a sleet mess. around route 3, traffic is moving well, but vdot is focused on when the sleet turns to snow. we checked on the the stafford headquarters area, and they had trucks lining up one by one, preparing to get loads of the salt/sand mixture. those trucks hit the 95 corridor in the fredericksburg area, about 3:00, pretreating with salt and sand, but they say they'll have 900 pieces of equipment that includes tractors, as well as trucks and some spreaders. they'll be on standby through the overnight hours. overnight they'll be continuing to treat the roads just in case it becomes more icy out here. coming up at 5:00, we'll tell you why they're only use a

salt/sand mixture instead of the brine mixture we talk about. and you'll hear from drivers who had to change their plans because of the forecast. for now, reporting live in fredericksburg. news4. >> doesn't seem to be much of a rush on snow supplies in parts of southern maryland that could see light accumulation as v.j. just told us. this home depot had plenty of shovels, rock salt and de-icer late this morning. grocery store shelves were still packed with food and water. we did see preparations under way to help keep the roads clear. have chris gordon is checking out the conditions in charles county. he'll have a live report at 5:00. for the latest on the weather anywhere any time. president obama admits his new push for sweeping gun control will be a tough fight. the lines are being drawn today.

veronica, what's the latest? >> the latest hasn't changed, expecting snow down to our south of d.c., around the area, just cloud cover, we've got a bit of rain in the area, and some area to our west has already changing over. this evening snow will be moving in just down to our south. we're talking about some light accumulation. i know that the type of snow we'll get will be those big wet flakes that should be, well, fairly easy to clean up. road surfaces, just look at the road temperatures, they're in the upper 30s to low 40s, so it will take a while to see any accumulation. isolated slick spots, by tomorrow morning, though, windchills will be in the teens tomorrow, so not everybody gets the snow, but everybody will ge. we'll get cold and windy, because they are going to be slow to climb, those areas down south, well, those slick spots will be sticking around up until about 8:00, 9:00 tomorrow morning, at least the chance. on radar right now, you can see

where the moisture is, off to the west, you can see the white. right now getting a bit of snow. we've had that pocket right there around luisa that we've got watching. when that snow comes in and when we see the changeover taking place, we're seeing the temperatures fall very quickly in a big way. coming down in five and six degrees. a dusting to an inch, areas of petersburg, over to d.c. and annapolis, 1 to 2 inches of snowfall. areas around culpepper, fredericksburg, quantity quo, calvert beach could see just over 2 inches. maybe even 4 inches of snowfall. again, it's all south of our area. that's exactly where most of the advisories and winter storm warning is. this is going to be a big system for areas of southern virginia,

of central north carolina, chapel hill, north carolina could see 3 to 4 inches of snow. lynchburg, and danville could be 3, 4, maybe even 5 inches of snowfall. there's the temperatures, 30s in pittsburgh. 35 in charleston. 35 in cleveland. that's the cold air that will continue to come in behind the system, as the area of low pressure makes its way off the coast late tonight. frederick at 39. 41 in leesburg, but again those spots where we're seeing the snow coming in, sharlsville 34 degrees, that mercury dropping in a big way. it's not until about after midnight, 2:00, 3:00 army in the morning when the wind starts cranking up. so the snow ends about 9:00, 10:00, completely moves out by 11:00 to midnight. there's your temperatures for the morning. we'll be in the 20s to low 30s, but windchill readings will be in the teens tomorrow morning.

and by the afternoon, only the 20s, the windchill readings as we see again the mercury climb very slowly. this is at about lunchtime tomorrow, 33 to 38. culpepper to d.c., even fredry at 32. into the 20s by the time we get to the evening hours, so it will be very cold throughout the entire day tomorrow. here's a look at our evening forecast. clouds north, rain to snow south, with roads looking good for the evening. we're just fine, 35 to 40 degrees. tomorrow morning, mostly clear, breezy and cold, can't stress that enough. this will be some of the coldest air of our season moving in. we get a taste of it here at the end of the week, then a bigger taste of it and a lasting cold throughout next week. 35 to 39, with a partly sunny sky, coming our way tomorrow. the weekend against a bit back up into the mid 40s, but again for inauguration day, flurries late, and that's when the coldest of air really comes in.

do not give someone access remotely to your computer if somebody calls out of the blue. never rely on caller i.d. to confirm that a caller is legitimate. >> just last october the federal trade commission took action against six companies that they claim were scamming consumers, and again it all started with a cold call, asking if you have any computers issue. >> if someone calls you and tells you your computer has a problem, the best thing to do is hang up the phone. >> people, especially the elderly, tend to fall for these kinds of scams, because they're more trusting and a little less technical savvy. >> the ftc believes most of the scammer are based out of india. they also say they tend to targets english-speaking consumers. an update on the weather for those getting snow, what's the

we're talking about snow. luisa has had snow for a while now. around charlottesville, they're 29 and 33. and we're going to see this area again shift more toward the east. fredericksburg is reporting sleep mixing in with the rain, i don't think it will be too long before we get some big flakes mixing in. down around i-95, bowling green, areas around ashford and fredericksburg, maybe 2, 3 inches of no. snow. a dullesing or so for manassas, definitely south of d.c., you folks an culpepper, maybe one, perhaps even 2 inches of snow off to the east.
