is melting, but something else is moving in. see what it means for your weekend. plus, there's been an arrest in the murder of an 18-year-old shot and killed in a bus stop in d.c. what friends are saying about the man who is now in custody. and this video has been kept under wraps for months, until now. the punish frment the man yielding a bat inside a local day care. tonight our deep freeze continues for a fourth straight day. this second round of winter weather moved in at the height of the evening rush, creating so slick spots on our roads. more than 100 accidents across the commonwealth of virginia. we have team coverage tonight. chief meteorologist doug kaemerer tells us what to expect overnight but we begin with erica. >> the snow is still on the ground, so, it's not melting. what does that mean for you tonight? it you are in for a very cold

and slick night on the roads. the temperatures have dropped and people have noticed. >> it's cold. >> reporter: that and the fact that it started to snow again today and fast. beautiful, fluffy, shimmery, even. but mother nature's picturesque view send snow plows into overdrive just before the rush hour commute and caused more than 100 crashes across the state of virginia. meanwhile, kelly is thinking warm thoughts. >> i'm from south carolina. and i was talking with my friends down there and it's 60s, 70 degrees. they're going to the beach. i'm sitting up here in the snow. >> reporter: speaking of the beach -- >> we were coming in from cau melto ft. lauderdale. >> reporter: multiple flights were delayed because of the snow or visibility or lack there of.

the side roads and sidewalks could be a problem in the morning. chief meteorologist doug kammerer continues our coverage. >> doreven, all because of this bitterly cold air. the snow moved through very quickly. we only saw six hours of snow and most locations reporting half an inch to an inch and some of you did report over an inch of snow, especially down towards portions of southern maryland. behind it, the extremely cold numbers, 23 in leesburg and 19 in frederick and the snow cover tonight will help us to cool even more. so by tomorrow morning, you're really looking at a very cold start. but what does that mean for your weekend? take a look at this. roller coaster ride over the next couple of days. that's for sure. the average is 44 this time of year. we're going to go way up towards the middle of the week and then next week, we're going to go way down and not done with our winter precipitation just yet. i'll talk about that, coming up in my full forecast. >> okay, thank you, doug.

winter weather is creating big problems to our north and south tonight. this is allegheny county, pennsylvania, where icy conditions made driving nearly impossible. this car couldn't make it up even a very small hill. other drivers ended up in the same situation sliding across the slippery roads. a thick sheet of ice also made things difficult in tennessee. dozens of accidents forced police to shut down roads, as officials declared a state of emergency. charlotte, north carolina, is coping with the same kind of trouble. traffic crawled along the interstate there, but that still wasn't enough to keep some drivers on the pavement. and this snow in ohio was particularly frustrating for parents and teachers. the flakes started falling during the morning rush hour. many school districts didn't make the call to close until it was too late. students were sent home almost as soon as they arrived for class. plows worked overtime trying to keep the roads clear. about four inches of snow fell before this storm moved out. stay on top of the weather in

your neighborhood any time of day, head to our website, nbcwashington.com. you'll find a live interactive radar with the latest forecast there. it's under our weather section. new video just released shows a violent confrontation inside a day care center in landover. michael young was sentenced today to 20 years in prison after the sentencing this video was made public. in it, you can see young fighting with a security guard using a baseball bat back in april. prosecutors say he attacked the guard after not being allowed inside to use the phone. police believe that young was high on pcp at the time. tonight, there's been an arrest in the murder of an 18-year-old shot and killed at a bus stop. we now know this was no random attack and the suspect knew the victim. live from the crime scene in northwest d.c. with the new details. >> her friend tell me they don't know why she was in this northwest d.c. neighborhood. now, this is where she was shot.

right around this area near this bus stop according to police and the number 62 bus stops right here and would take her to tacoma park, but police are investigating why she was here. >> i was more angry than sad. >> genesis new yez is filled with pain. her close friend, 18-year-old friend was murdered. >> she didn't deserve it. >> reporter: tonight we learned d.c. police arrested 21-year-old alexander buckley. detectives say he shot and killed her at 2:00 this morning at this street and nickelson street northwest. police say the two knew each other but haven't released details about their relationship. do you know how she knew this guy? was he a boyfriend, a relative? >> i don't know how he lives. >> reporter: she just graduated from high school in silver spring. she worked at the starbucks coffee stand at giant and had a

big heart for her family and friends. >> she always kept laughing no matter what. she was always going through something or something was always happening and she was always happy. >> reporter: again, the number 62 bus stops right here and would, if that was the case, take her to her grandmother's house which is two miles away. her grandmother tells us she is really upset about all of this and she's grieving. we respected her wishes and she didn't have to talk on camera. new information tonight about a deadly crash involving an ambulance in southeast d.c. police tell us the victim is a woman, but her name and age haven't been released yet. we're told the woman's suv hit an ambulance about 2:30 this afternoon on southern avenue near 12 street southeast. the impact flipped the suv over and then it caught on fire and pushed the ambulance into another car. two paramedics were also hospitalized with injuries. they are both expected to be okay. now, to a developing story

overseas. chaos and violence on the streets of egypt tonight on the second anniversary of the revolution there. once again, tens of thousands of protesters around the country are demanding a change in leadership. at least seven people have been killed while hundreds of others have been hurt. as nbc reports, protesters believe this is critical for their nation. >> those that we spoke to today say they were angered by the rise of islam's politicians, including morsi. they accuse the president and his supporters of dividing the country, taking control of not only political life, but all aspects of social life and, more importantly, ruining the country's economy and leaving it in shambles. but in all these cities, there were clashed between the police and the protesters. protesters threw stones and fire bombs and the police fired back with tear gas and rubber bullets. there have been fatalities, as well as 200 or more casualties. >> i'm coming here to ask for

new video shows a routine arrest of a get away. a florida deputy was attempting to handcuff a man for shoplifting when the suspect put up a fight and took off. the deputy was dragged several feet before he could get loose. the suspect dropped his wallet during the fight and that sent police right to his home. the deputy is recovering. the man was originally wanted for stealing some sunglasses and lip blm and now facing more

serious charges. daniel harmine wright is accused of shooting and killing 54-year-old patricia cooke while checking out a suspicious vehicle report last february. today in court, he choked up as he told the jury he shot cooke because he feared she would try to kill him with her vehicle. jurors were also taken out to the crime scene today. closing arguments are supposed to begin monday. and take a look at this video of a construction mishap in southern indiana today. crews preparing to demolish an old stadium. only 16 trusses were left standing but all came crashing down unexpectedly when a worker started to cut one of the beams. fortunately, nobody was hurt here. despite the freezing temperatures out there, tens of thousands of people gathered in d.c. for one of the nation's largest anti-abortion demonstrations.

they came from across the country for the march for life against abortion. the group is calling for the supreme court to overturn the roe versus wade decision that legalized abortion in this country. this week marks the 40th anniversary of the landmark ruling. a new nbc news/"wall street journal" poll finds 73 pr of americans support the decision. mental health took center stage at a gun violence roundtable led by vice president biden in richmond today. he led a two-hour discussion at virginia commonwealth university in the wake of the newtown school shooting. he laid out a broad goal on preventing weapons from falling into the wrong hands. >> detect earlier than later those folks who would have the propensity to engage in the kind of activity. >> the vice president also said the newtown massacre and the

virginia tech shooting both highlight the importance of strengthening background checks for gun buyers. newark, new jersey, mayor cory booker is being celebrated as a hero, again. he rescued a dog in danger of freezing to death. last night he got a tweet from someone who spotted a dog out in the cold and he's known for responding to his constituents online. booker went to the scene and put the dog in a warm police car. officers found the owner who said the dog just had puppies and it somehow had gotten out. he does it, again. >> there he goes. >> i have to admit, i was kind of hoping you were wrong, doug. that we would get a bunch more snow timed on friday, nice snowy weekend. didn't work out the way i wanted. >> no. you know, a lot of people saying that. we still have yet to get over an inch of snow officially at the airport. we've done it in dulles just over an inch of snow in parts of the area. dulles reporting a third of an

inch and d.c. only a third to half an inch across the area at the airport and, once again, we continue to wait for the big one. i know a lot of you are saying, oh, no, i don't want to see it. about 70%. i asked this on twitter and facebook. 70% want to see six inches or more. have to admit, doreen i'm right there with you. this afternoon, though, snow, a really fine powdery snow. we don't see it very often and it's because of those very cold temperatures. the snow we saw today, much more like the snow they get out towards colorado and utah. the stuff that is so good for skiing. high temperature today only 25 degrees and the low of 19 and average high is 44. and check this out, four days in a row below freezing. we are approaching next hour will be 100 hours below the freezing mark. how about that. we need to get above, we need to get out of the ice box and it does look like that is going to happen, maybe even tomorrow. radar, nothing to show right now. the snow has now moved out of

the region but you can see where it was before. all the snow moving through very quickly. within five, six hours it was out of here. now, we're watching some snow back to the west and notice how it is moving our way. this will not get here and make its way over the mountains and i would not be surprised to see a couple snowflakes form as they move over our region. no accumulated snow and still back to the west, back towards garret county, maryland. 24 degrees. that's the current number and look at the wind chill, also 24. the winds have calmed just a little bit and picking up early tomorrow morning, though. that is one thing that will set our wind chills back just a little bit. 19 in frederick and 23 in manassas and the deep freeze just continues here and let's take you hour-by-hour for tomorrow. your saturday. 20 degrees to start off at 7:00 a.m. and nice and cold. 28 by 11:00. here we go. we get above freezing for at least an hour or maybe two and we get to 33. and then we're right back down below freezing by 7:00. but there's a big warm up coming over the next couple of days.

something about the -- something to do this weekend if you're thinking about doing something, skiing would be great this weekend. probably the best ski weekend we've had all winter longall th liberty mountain and 44 trails open at snow shoe and west virginia. they've got nearly a foot of snow in the last week down towards wintergreen and virginia. currently 19 trails open. if you're a skier, this weekend could be the weekend to do it. 35 on your sunday. 42 on monday, but some am rough spots. we'll talk about this. 59 on your tuesday and look what happens wednesday. we get to 60 with a good chance for rain. maybe some heavy rain and then much colder thursday and friday. back below freezing, i think, friday and into the weekend. how about monday? monday is a day we're also worried about, once again, for our rush hour. the a.m. rush hour. starting off cold. there could be some freezing rain possible or some snow and that could affect monday morning's rush hour and you want to stay tuned all morning long and kim will have that for you

carol's here with sports. so, one of the redskins is not going to the pro bowl now? >> so, if you look at the roster, he has that dreaded x by his name. out with an injury. not good. but we know more tonight. multiple sources have redskins trent williams attending his first pro bowl, not playing. williams is reportedly being replaced in the lineup after an altercation at the nightclub that left williams in stitches. doreen is in shock. >> williams has been in hawaii all week getting ready. pro football talk is reporting that williams was the victim in this altercation and he will still be on the sidelines for the game. adam sheckner tweeted that he received stitches in his head and was tazered. we still have not heard anything from the redskins pr staff but expect a statement from honolulu
