was hit by a car. it happened at an apartment complex off of breezewood drive. we're told the boy was with his father at the time of the accident. no word on what led up to the crash. the driver did stay on the scene. the boy is listed in serious condition. a 6-year-old child, a boy, is missing in alabama after a shooting on a school bus. police say the bus driver was shot and killed this afternoon. the gunman, an adult snatched the child. report there ares the gunman and boy are held up in a town near midland city. police will not confirm the hostage situation. schools are closed already tomorrow. we will continue to monitor the developments out of alabama. a dangerous robber who's off the streets now. new video shows how his crime spree began when he pointed a gun at a woman it. >> ended in a barber's chair, thanks to the suspect's greed and one officer's intuition.

sh . >> reporter: police say this is very unusual. they caught the suspect in this salon behind me getting his hair cut. an officer identified him after watching this video. surveillance video shows a masked man walking in kiss and ride convenient store in wheaton. he pointing the gun at the store owner and forcing her to open the cash register. >> he pointed the gun at you? >> yeah, of course. >> montgomery county police say a few hours later, joseph also robbed the capital one bank across the street. a k-9 search came up empty. an officer reviewed the surveillance video and spotted a suspicious cab. >> i approached the taxi cab. he didn't know who he was picking up exactly. >> he looked inside and saw the suspect getting his hair cut. >> corner of my eye i saw a male

sort of matching the description. luckily the wind blew in because i still had the door open and i could see a little red dye and called for backup. >> with half a hair cut police arrested him and they recovered money from the bank and a gun. he confessed to robbing the store, the bank and this bank a week ago on university boulevard near colesville road. >> i feel glad i got him off the streets. it's not my first, but i'm happy. >> he is charged with three counts of armed robbery and is in jail. when asked why, detectives say he allegedly told them that he was having money problems. live here in wheaton, news 4. >> some severe weather in parts of the south tonight. it's moving our way. in northeastern arkansas, they had flooding, high winds that

damaged trees there. threats of tornados tonight. erica gonzalez is live with reaction to the dramatic temperature changes here. doug will tell us when will this turn the other way. doug? >> it will be 24 hours. tomorrow night around this time is when i expect the storms to move in across our region. we are looking at the storms to the west. you don't see them in d.c. metro area or the eastern seaboard but back to the west, chicago, st. louis, memphis seeing severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings across the area and the whole system will continue to move our way. as it does, our severe weather threat goes up. severe potential for us including virginia and west virginia maryland including the baltimore regions and 95. we will watch the scenario play out carefully. the biggest threat for us is damaging winds, up to 50 to 60

it happened last night in a residential parking lot off of apple dower circle. the victim told the suspect she haven't any money. he reportedly hit her. took something from her. police won't say what. we have a sketch. this is a great sketch. police want you to see it. he looks like someone. sometimes they are ab ambiguous. this is clear. he is believed to be responsible for nine robberies an threats in the same neighborhood. this happened just in a month, nine in a month. initially he was only going after purses and electronics, and this is why it is frightening. in the most recent cases he's approaching people, hitting people and claiming to have a weapon. so if you have seen this guy f he looks familiar, if this sketch looks familiar to you, call the montgomery county police. jim, doreen? >> thank you, wendy. tonight a murder victim's family is talking about the dangers of social media. siobhan lee was shot on friday

at a bus stop. 21-year-old i am sander buckley is arrested and facing charges. they believe the the two met on a social networking site called tagged. they say they need regulations to prevent tragedies like this one. >> this is a bad thing. this is a bad thing and it should be controlled. there should not be something out there like that so they can make these young people victims. they are victims because they don't know. they don't have a clue. >> buckley was previously convicted of burglary and wanted on a felony trespassing warrant and is due in court next week. an arlington man found murdered and his son is the prime suspect. 89-year-old mac wood was found dead in his arlington home last october. he had terminal cancer and had just months to live. police thought it was an accident, but today they announced the arrest of mac wood jr. and two accomplices. we talked to the victim's

daughter and she said she was shocked over her brother's arrest and feels she was robbed of her father too soon. police are staying tight lipped about a possible motive. president obama is urging congress to pass an immigration reform bill quickly to avoid more endless debate. the president went to las vegas to strengthen border security and create a pathway for millions of undocumented immigrants to become citizens. opponents say the plan cannot become a way to reward people for breaking current immigration laws. the state department will hold a welcome ceremony for john kerry on monday. kerry easily won confirmation to become the next secretary of state. he won that confirmation from his senate colleagues today. no date has been set yet for his swearing in. friday will be the last day for hillary rodham clinton as secretary of state. it's a story you saw first on news 4. tonight, we are getting answers to when the long-awaited

streetcars could finally be running in northeast d.c. the tracks are ready but sources say it will likely be 2014 at the earliest before they are up and running along h street. the city originally said the cars would start in 2012 and then changed it to late 2013 and now it appears it is pushed back again. d.c. officials say there's no problem and the process is moving forward. the public will soon get a chance to weigh weigh in on increasing the speed on the intercounty connector. right now it is 55 miles an hour. many say it is too slow for the wide-open road. the maryland house of delegates is considering raising it to 70 and the senate has a bill pending that would let drivers go 60 miles an hour. there are hearings on february 5th and 7th in annapolis to talk about the options. coming up tonight, a fresh look inside of a brazil nightclub after a fire there killed 200 people. reaction after a former police

investigators say the band playing that night lit flares that were meant for outdoor use instead of more expensive indoor flares. they are accused of violating safety codes. most of the victims were college students and recent graduates. four people have been arrested so far. a man who was a police officer in culpeper, virginia, could be spending the next 25 years of his life in prison on a charge of manslaughter. >> reporter: after a week of walking freely in and out of the culpeper courthouse, this is how daniel harmen-wright last walked out wearing handcuffs with his head crouched down. >> found guilty of manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter and shooting in to a convict. >> they convicted him of cook's death. along the quiet main street of culpeper, the story grabd most

employees to help with his catheter bag. the judge called it outrageous and arrogant. leo poland says he is humbled by the verdict. the judge is expected to announce a sentencing date for thursday. an inspiring milestone for a u.s. army veteran who had a double arm trance plant. branden will work six hours a day in rehab to regain use of his new arms and hands. the 26-year-old new yorker lost all four limbs in an explosion in iraq in 2009. back in december, a big team of surgeons at johns hopkins hospital attached his new arms. six weeks out from the surgery, brenden wheeled himself in to a room full of reporters. >> i feel like i'm getting a second chance to start over after i got hurt. so i'm excited. excited for the future and where i can go with it. >> he has big plans. he wants to drive a car again

and eventually complete a marathon using an arm bike. quite an inspiration, that young man. so wow! what a wild ride this week. >> it has been a wild ride. last week we were talking about temperatures we haven't seen in years and now we're talking about temperatures we haven't seen in years but this time on the opposite side of the spectrum. last week it was a cold week and this week temperatures were warm because of that guy right there. all the sunshine coming in with winds out of the south really painted a perfect picture. this does not look like a january day. a lot of people in short sleeves. may have needed the jacket early in the day but by afternoon you can walk around in short sleeves. look at these numbers. 69 washington. 76 in fredericksburg. 70 leesburg and 66 up to gaithersburg. an incredibly warm day. actual temperatures 25 to 30 above average. still at 53 degrees.

i i don't see these numbers going down much overnight. winds out of the south at 7 miles an hour. looking at partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. we will see a chance of fog to develop. temperatures on the warm side. where it is getting cooler, notice the cooler weather. 47 baltimore. this is the area that has a better chance of fog overnight. 59 culpeper. 62 fredericksburg and 57 in winchester. very warm at this time of the night. radar, nothing in our region. we will stay on the calm side between now and say 6:00, 7:00 tomorrow night. that's when we will see the changes moving in. it is because of this massive frontal system. from the great lakes to the gulf of mexico, this is a large storm, very warm air ahead of it. temperatures 70s and 80s. to the west, it's the snow. temperatures in the 20s and 30s. that's the system you normally see in march but it is moving our way in january. that's why temperatures should

soar to the 70 degree mark once again, maybe the low 70s for some of us and the possibility is there for some severe weather with potential for strong winds. i think this will come through right around 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 tomorrow night through the d.c. metro area. between 8:00 and 11:00, strong winds 50 to 60 miles an hour. over an inch of rain is possible in a little amount of time. may see localized flooding. let's time this out on future weather. 7 a.m. tomorrow. some clouds, not bad at all. tomorrow, dry for the most part around 2:00 but showers are building to the west and they will continue to build and our chance of thunderstorms will increase along the blue ridge to the west. also along 66 and 81. that line will move our way. by 9:00, it will start to move to the d.c. metro area. 95 corridor, coming up around 11:00 tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow evening. so a windy day. all day tomorrow, looking at
