aaron and eun over to you. thank you. tony tull has breaking news from the live desk. >> we're tracking breaking news where five people have been killed after suicide bombers killed a compound in pakistan where government officials were meeting. it happened in peshawar close to the border near afghanistan. the latest reports say that the two bombers wearing suicide vests entered the compound. there was shooting and two large explosions. the building was a place where political officials and tribal officials were meeting. they were told to take shelter inside offices of the building. as of right now, no one claimed responsibility for the bombing. that is the latest. back to you guys. now, to the developing stories surrounding the murder charges against oscar pistorius. his agent said he's canceled all future races for the time being so pistorius can focus on the charges against him had. despite the chges, many of the sponsors, nike and oakley are sticking with him until the legal process plays out.

approximate is tore yus remains in custody at a police station accused of killing his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. he's getting support from fans around the world. >> i can tell you that we have had overwhelming support for oscar from a lot of fans on a global scale. south african fans, international fans from literally all over the world. >> pistorius will appear in court tomorrow for a bail hearing. steenkamp is set to be cremated. there will be a private ceremony tomorrow as well. the music world is mourning the loss of mindy mccready. it appears she killed herself in her arkansas home yesterday. the singer had numerous run-ins with the law. she was voluntarily i committed to a treatment facility following the debt of her boyfriend. she was 37 years old. police need your help

finding a woman who vanished. ashley funk now has long black hair and blue eyes. funk is from the germantown area. her family last saw her several weeks ago. her family and police are concerned about her emotional and physical well-being. you've seen her, call montgomery county police. this morning, police are looking for the people responsible for a stabbing that killed a university of maryland eastern shore student. police say 21 years old edmond st. claire was stabbed on campus. police say he was a passenger in a car when there were three or four people walking on the street. a fight broke out in st. claire was stabbed. he died 30 minutes later. his girlfriend chelsea yoe self-shown in this picture tells news 4 that he borrowed her car to get something to eat. >> because of what happened, just because it was like ten to 15 minutes after --

>> friends tell news 4 that sinclair was a popular d.j. on campus. he attended high school in prince george's county. police have not identified any suspects. 4:36 right now. republicans are accusing president obama of playing politics by drafting his own proposal to overhaul the immigration laws. usa today reported that the white house is working on a bill that would create a visa for undocumented immigrants and allow them to become legal permanent residents within eight years. it would bolster funding for -- and require employers to check the immigration status of workers. it would only put its proposal forward if congress fails to come up with its own legislation. >> we'll be prepared in the event that the talks going on the hill, which by the way were aggressively supporting, if those do not work out, we'll have an option to put out there. >> marco rubio warns that the

president's bill would be dead on arrival this klegg. the obama administration is not giving up efforts to avoid massive spending cuts which are set to take effect 11 days from now. dennis mcdone owe says the cuts known as the sequester will have a major impact on middle class americans. president obama endorsed a plan that democrats -- it includes tax hikes on millionaires and democrats admit the proposal has little chance of chancing in the republican controlled house. prince george's county leaders have about seven weeks to figure out how to repay the federal government at least a million dollars it claims the county mismanaged. that money was part of a housing and urban development focused on -- jack johnson administration. johnson is now in prison for his part in a corruption and bribery scandal centered in the county's

good news if you're a fan of maker's mark. it's restoring the alcohol volume in the popular whiskey. it announced it was lowering the alcohol in the bottles because of a supply shortage. loyal customers were furious about that. thousands told the company they would rather deal with an occasional supply shortage than an inferior whiskey. they tweeted yesterday, you spoke, we listen. back to normal. time for weather and traffic on the 1s. meteorologist tom kierein tell us about this cold day, tom. >> it doesn't look that cold when you look at the live view from the city camera. looks like a clear, typical morning. but it is frigid. starting off with temperatures near 20 degrees. most of the region. reagan national at 23 degrees.

good morning. i'm tony tull at the live desk tracking breaking news out of portland, oregon. last night at 12:30 our time, police were called to a hospital for a man with a gun. we're told the hospital was placed on lockdown. police were able to contain the gunman inside. they say that a shot rang out,

the gunman is dead. but, again, that hospital in portland, oregon is still on lockdown as police there investigate what happened. as of right now, there are no other injuries. we'll continue to track the story. back to you. it marks ten years since 100 people died in a rhode island nightclub fire. yesterday loved ones gathered for a memorial. the station nightclub burned to the ground in february 2003 when pyrotechnics during a show by great white caught material on fire. work for the memorial begins in the spring. it morning, people in a small texas town are mourning the deaths of two firefighters. they are from bryan, texas. about 50 miles outside houston. they died friday night trying to put out flames inside a knights of columbus lodge when the roof suddenly collapsed. two other firefighters were badly burned, but are expected

to survive. a 4-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was rescued from a burning house in the district. two adults and another child were also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. happened in the 2600 block of 33rd street? southeast. it's split into apartments. police arrested a man who argued with another adult inside the home at the time of the fire. he's charged with simple assault and making threats. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. police identified the man hit and killed by a car in northeast washington. police say 20-year-old darnell ross of upper marlboro died from his injuries. he was walking near the gallaudet metro station saturday night when he fell into the crosswalk along m street. the driver took off. police do not have a description of the car. after the russian fireball, the united nations is discussing the potential threat of more impacts on earth.

the u.n. is working on an international response to close calls saying it's critical to track asteroids to prevent collisions with earth. last year, a small meteor crashed in russia. the same day a 160-foot asteroid buzzed by earth missing it by 17,000 miles. a man charged with slapping a toddler on an airplane is out of a job this morning. 60 ear yield joe hundley of idaho no longer works for an aerospace and defense company after he slapped a 2-year-old boy on a minnesota to atlanta flight. the boy's mother says altitude change caused her son to start crying and hundley who appeared o intoxicated used a racially charged word before slapping the child in the face. he will plead not guilty to simple assault charges. 4:48 now. in news 4 for your health, concussion cans may require long-term care. they found athletes who suffered a concussion 30 years ago had

chris paul was named game mvp. danica patrick raced her way into the books. the first woman to win the pole in the daytona 500 guaranteeing her a spot up front in next sunday's race. she averaged speeds of more than 196 miles per hour. only four-time cup champion jeff gordon came close in second place by .03 of a second. congrats to her. third baseman ryan zimmerman is recovering well from off season shoulder surgery. he and the rest of the nets took part in the first full squad workout of spring training yesterday. zimmerman says his shoulder is at about 85% right now. he hopes to play in some of the nationals spring training games. his shoulder bothered him much of last year. now that he's feeling healthier, his expectations for the coming season are as high as everybody else's. >> anything less than making the playoffs, i think, is going to be a disappointment.

here are the temperatures expected by mid-afternoon. the low mid-40s around washington. much of northern virginia. farther north and west, highs near 40 degrees. we'll have that wind diminishing and not as cold tonight. increasing clouds, though. by dawn tomorrow, near freezing again. in the morning, as some moisture rolls in, it may begin as a brief period of wet snow and sleet. mainly to the west of us. perhaps blue ridge west into the shenandoah valley. that's tomorrow morning maybe for a brief time for two or three hours. maybe sleet and snow in the higher elevations getting freezing rain. then farther east, it's going to be all rain off and on into the afternoon hours. ending tomorrow night. highs near 50. on wednesday, cold day again. 20s in the morning, afternoon highs low 40s. still cold on thursday too. but into the low to mid-40s in the afternoon. upper 40s on friday. chance of rain moving in late on friday. does look like off and on rain on saturday with a high near 50. highs low and mid-50s.
