after an argument. police arrested the suspected shooter. police closed the club and the restaurant because the two share a liquor license. the owners can request a public hearing to regain their license once they reopen. d.c. police are asking for your help in finding the driver of this car whom they believe was involved in a deadly hit and run. the accident happened a week and a half ago if in the 100 block of m street northeast. a man was killed in that collision. surveillance video captured a passenger from the car walking to a nearby metro station. fire investigators in maryland say baseboard heaters are to blame for two massive house fires. a deadly house fire in myersville was caused by drapes too close to a heater. two young sisters died in that fire. another family was displaced after a heater caught fire in the bedroom. firefighters are urging people to check their heaters to make sure nothing flammable is next

jason scott's case yesterday. scott is a former ups worker accused of killing delores and ebony dewitt in largo in 2009. a detective referenced scott's alleged involvement in several home invasions that were unrelated. the judge said the jury could only hear about one of those home invasions. scott will remain locked up until a new trial this fall. this morning, police are looking for a person of interest in the murders of an elderly couple in fauquier county, virginia. they want to question john jeffries as they investigate the murders of nelson and ethel slack. the couple was found dead in their home in the plains on sunday. police had suspect jeffries was involved in a home invasion in fredericksburg. the 67-year-old homeowner fought back hitting the intruder over the head with his oxygen tank. today, you can weigh in on whether those signs along roadways in fairfax county should become history. there's a proposal to remove

signs from median strips and intersections. it's illegal to put signs along roads that vdot owns. but they don't have the manpower to remove the signs. the hearing begins at 4:00 p.m. in the board auditorium at the county government center. >> montgomery county school board asking for more money as the enrollment grows. they're asking to approve a $2.23 billion budget for fiscal year 2014. that's a 2.5% increase over this year. the board says most of that increase simply allows them to serve about 2300 more students expected to move into the county. it will also fund investments in math instruction and more middle school staff. >> last week -- thank you very much. >> heated moments between fairfax county teachers and the school board. this came as teachers vented frustrations about the demands of their jobs. last night in falls church they

last six starts. the caps also signed a two-year $4 million extension with defenseman john erskine. >> the redskins may be considering legal action against the nfl. the "washington post" is reporting the team is thinking of going to court over the salary cap penalty. the league assessed against the 'skins. the redskins may try to delay the start of free agency until the issue is resolved. the nfl stripped the team of $36 million in salary caps last year for its handling of contracts during the uncapped 2010 season. the 'skins dealt with half that penalty last year. they don't want to face a second half of it this year. blizzard warnings are in effect across much of the midwest this morning. for days now, residents in kansas, oklahoma and parts of texas have dealt with these conditions. high winds, heavy snow, causing drivers to get stuck. the national guard actually had to be called in to help some of them. white-out conditions caused snowplows to get stuck. the snowy conditions could stick

the ban goes into effect, monday, march 4th. the plan is they'll be ready for opening day. both teams are working on other plans to accommodate smokers. mixed reaction to a d.c. council member's reprimand for ethics violations as punishment. jim graham had his committee assignments reduced, lost control of the alcohol license issues as well. council members voted to reprimand the representative, multiple investigations found he tried to barter contracts for the district and the metro system in 200 which is considered unethical but not illegal. some say the punishment is not enough where ethics has become a serious issue. >> the council wanted to step up to the plate and show they were supportive of ethics reform in the district, they would have dpon for a censor. >> i'm reminded of something shakespeare said. all's well that ends wells. i would modify it and say all's

. starting this week, illegal downloaders will get warnings to stop pirating music, movies and tv shows. the music and film industry set up the copyright alert system which will work with the five major american internet service providers. companies that discover users downloading illegally will send them a warning. they'll receive up to six warnings before companies take drastic steps like slowing their internet connection. this morning, federal regulators launched three separate investigations involving 1.3 million cars. the national highway traffic safety administration is looking at the toyota prius hybrid built between 2004 and 2009 because of streerg problems. unexpected power problems involving the ford escape, fusion, mariner and milan models. they're looking into braking problems of the honda pilot. regulators have not issued any recalls yet. m
