news in the midwest. tornados confirmed in three states. kansas, oklahoma and iowa. the damage widespread. trucks thrown off highways, entire neighborhoods flattened. here is a live look right now at the line of storms, the midwest has been on high alert for severe weather for days. and the threat is not over. news 4s mark seagraves at the life desk with more on the destruction we have seen tonight. mark? >> people on the ground say tornados ripped through everything in sight. wind topping 70 miles an hour toppled trucks, uprooted trees and crumbled homes across, oklahoma, kansas and iowa. emergency crews scrambled to search for any one trapped before night fall. four confirmed injuries. there had been reports of death, but tonight, oklahoma emergency management is not confirming that. some of the worst damage is in eastern oklahoma. in the town of shawnee.

our affiliate captured what it looks like from the air where they say majority of police and emergency crews are focusing their rescue efforts. >> we found a double-wide earlier that has been lifted, turned and set back down. you saw the underside, the i-beams and -- you know, so -- this storm had some definite lift. definite went to it. and as you can see, it completely, excuse me, demolished this whole area here. >> we are learning rescue crews have brought stadium lights to help search through debris for any people trapped under the rubble tonight. the storm system is expected to move east towards the great lakes tomorrow. and the national weather service says more than 148 million people are at risk of severe weather into tuesday. at the live desk, i'm mark seagraves. >> storm team 4 meteorologist, chuck bell used to live in oklahoma. chuck you said these kinds of storms, this kind of weather happens this time of year. >> absolutely.

memorial day weekend, week, one or two weeks either side of is tend to be about the most violent time of the year in oklahoma especially this time of the year. that is what is happening today. over the last four days, 750 reports of severe weather. more than 60. tornado reports. a big hit again across parts of the great plains. severe weather on the west sides of showing and severe weather moving to the north of st. louis. also, just down to the south kansas city. we actually have thundershowers, chances in our forecast as well. these are lifting northbound on the north side of interstate 95. already getting ready to rain steadily here in manassas, quantico, wood bridge. over the next 20 minutes. seven day coming up. >> messy accident that could keep some in northern virginia out of work for weeks. the damage is substantial. news 4s, darcy spencer says it is what leaked out of the semitruck that made clean-up so difficult. >> authorities tell me that

driver was driving here on route 29 at 5:00 this morning. when he feel asleep. now he smashed right into the front of this office building. fortunately, no one was here at the time. va vap state police say the driver of the rig lost control of the truck. he drove 25 feet off the road and hit the building. it houses a construction company. the driver walked away unharmed. the speed limit is 45 miles per hour here. that building stands alone in a rural area. an archery business is next door. >> had any one been in the building it would have been a different story. with it being a sunday and the building close ford nd for norm business. >> the impact caused the 80 gallon fuel tank to rupture, spilling diesel in front of the property. crews were out here for several hours cleaning up the fuel spill. the building has been condemned. virginia state police have identified that driver as 22-year-old christopher hoff, he

lives in south carolina. police handed him a citation for reckless driving. and sent him on his way. in f darcy spencer, news 4. >> two fbi agents killed in a training accident in virginia were part of an elite hostage rescue team. special agents christopher lorek and steven shaw were based at quantico and died friday during an exercise in virginia beach that involved a military helicopter. fbi won't say scene more. the fbi hostage rescue team made headlines earlier this year when special agents successfully rescued a 5-year-old boy from a small underground bunker in alabama held by a 65-year-old whose motive was never made clear. agents killed the man and rescued the boy unharmed. >> new tonight we are hearing from a transit officer shot during that televised shootout with the boston bombing suspects. richard donahue out of the hospital at a rehab facility.

the bullet that struck a major artery in his leg is there one month later. it has been a long recovery. even after all of this time he cannot fully remember the events that led up to the shooting. >> they had their hands inside my leg. only thing i remember roll call. i lost so much blood. >> donahue credits his wife with helping him remain optimistic and hopes to return home in the next few weeks. >> horrible commute awaits a lot of folks heading to new york tomorrow. couldn't couldn't's governor expects up to 30,000 more drivers on the roads. with one of the busiest rail lines in the country still closed. today the two metro north trains involved in friday's collision were removed and the crews begin to rebuild the damaged tracks in fairfield. commuter rail service will be limited tomorrow. amtrak service is still suspended from new york to new

haven. nip people still hospitalized after that accident. it isn't the jackpot. some one in virginia is holding a $1 million powerball ticket tonight. state lottery officials confirm a million dollar ticket sold at a food lion in lorton. one of 33 nationwide that matched five numbers but didn't match the powerball. ever heard of zephylis, florida, some one there is $500 million richer. it is about 30 miles, zephryhills, the ticket worth $590.5 million, the budget of zephyrhills is $47.5 million. if the winner is generous. he or she can give everyone $44,000. word spread fast. na

we got our house robbed. my house got robbed. we actually had public safety here, called, but they never came. >> reporter: university officials say they work closely at all times with local police to keep students safe. meanwhile, graduates we spoke with today say they are more aware of their surroundings and have a deeper appreciation for their new road ahead. >> an update on the destruction across the central planes tonight. crews are searching through debris looking for anyone trapped. after a series of tornados. two dozen. some of the worst damage is in the town of shawnee. 11 people have been hospitalized there. one in critical condition. there have been reports of deaths but oklahoma emergency management says it still has not confirmed that. the storm prediction center reports 21 tornado tuesday alone. in oklahoma, kansas and iowa. the midwest not the only part of our country dealing with severe weather. this weekend.

parts of atlanta. take a look. under emergency declarations tonight. because of heavy flooding. some areas saw 7 inches of rain in six hours. roads had to be closed because of the high water. some buildings took on more than five feet of walter. chuck bell. spring supposed to be a lovely time. forget winter. >> always transition does you in. transition from spring into summer now, is when we see the heavy rain events and freak when seep -- frequency of tornados. gradually tornado season will move out of oklahoma and kansas north bound into nebraska and minnesota. as we go further on into the summer. for us we are going to notice the change around here too. warmer. far more humid air is on the way. it will start arriving here during the evernight hours tonight. you are going to notice and feel the difference. all the way through the coming week. kind of a soupy evening outside here in the nation's capital. partly to mostly cloudy skies. a mild night too.

weather threat tomorrow. big severe weather tonight from minneapolis, chicago all the wave down toward wichita, tulsa, and oklahoma city. the warm front that is out ahead of that same storm system. the warm front that is changing our air mass from the cool, stable air mass that we had yesterday, into the warmer and more unstable air mass that we are going to begin for the rest of the coming week. one little shower now. had a couple rumbles of thunder. a few hours ago. most thunder, lightning is gone. moderately heavy rain. moving into the city of manassas now. on the track. just about on top of the city of fairfax, falls church. 20,30 minutes. be ready for brief period of heavy rain. otherwise. light sprinkles to the north side of the metro area. all part of the warmer, moisture laden air. coming in. really going to make it feel look summertime. warmer air on the way. reason for the rain chances coming in. more humid. means more rain chances tomorrow. and then as that weather front out west, finally starts to move our way, our touch of summer that lasts all week long.
