laboy suffered a traumatic brain injury. his rehab is expected to take up to a year. this is going to be an exhausting week for secretary of state john kerry. he leaves this afternoon for a week-long trip to the middle east and africa. his first stop will be amman. he will meet with key allies in jordan on wednesday to discuss ways to end the crisis in syria. kerry will spend thursday and friday in the west bank trying to restart the peace talks between the two governments and he'll travel to ethiopia. korea is trying to figure out if missiles were fired. the north conducted four launches. the south korea scientists are analyzing pieces of it recovered from the projectiles. weather and traffic on the 1s. tom kieran is keeping track of

looking into the cause of that crash. another amtrak trail derailed in chicago not far from union station there. the train left new orleans. the wheels lost contact with the tracks yesterday morning. nearly 200 passengers were on board. no one was hurt. republicans will spend the next week hammering the white house again about the recent controversies involving the irs and the justice department. that irs scandal will take sen tear stage on wednesday. the former acting head will testify before a senate committee. senate minority leader mitch mcconnell said there's a culture of intimidation throughout the obama administration. >> what we're talking about here is an attitude that the government knows best. a nanny state is here to tell us all what to do. and if we start criticizing, you get targeted. >> we have seen this playbook from the republicans before. what they want to do when they're lacking a positive agenda is to try to drag washington into trumped up hears

and false allegations. we won't let that happen. >> mcconnell was less harsh on the obama administration when discussing the revelation that the justice department obtained the associated press' staff records. in the day ahead a march and rally could impact traffic near the department of justice. this afternoon, homeowners fighting for closure are expected to march from freedom plaza to the justice department on pennsylvania avenue in northwest. it is expected to begin before 2:00. immigration will be front and center on capitol hill again today. the senate judiciary committee will resume its hearings on immigration reform. there are more than 300 amendments being considered. a group of senators known as the gang of 8 is leading that mostly bipartisan effort. 12,000 u.s. citizenship and services officers is also expected to publicly oppose that

bill. for the first time since january, united airlines will put the 787 dreamliner back in the skies. that entire fleet got grounded for a number of safety concerns surrounding the jet's battery. aviation officials approved that plan last month. right now, we are keeping a close eye on zephyrhills, florida. someone there is half a billion dollars richer, but still has not come forward with the winning powerball ticket. the $590 million ticket was sold at a publix grocery store. compared to the entire city budget which was just $47 million last year. if the city is just over 11,000 residents all split the prize, each person would still get $44,000. the lump sum for the largest ever powerball jackpot -- $377 million before taxes. wow. it may not be just the jackpot,

we are following breaking news out of iraq right now. the death toll continues to climb from a series of car bombings. at least 34 people were killed in those explosions in baghdad. and the southern city of basra. we are hearing of nine bombs in baghdad alone. this is video of basra just into the newsroom. two bombs went off there. one was near a restaurant. the other at a bus stop. at least ten people died in those blasts. more than two dozen others were injured. 15 before the hour. residents of fairfax county apartment complex will get a letter this week telling them they'll have a home after their complex is redeveloped. dozens gathered to protest the project which will tear down and rebuild the crescent apartments in reston. they said while the new complex will have affordable housing, more nan 80% of the residents

would not qualify. but the county board of supervisors tells news4 all of the current residents will be able to stay regardless. the newly formed gop ticket in virginia will be making four stops around the commonwealth today as they make their first unified push in the race for governor. attorney general ken cuccinelli will be joined by his lieutenant governor and new attorney general nominee today, and include stops in the shenandoah area, and martinsville. they stopped in fairfax yesterday and made clear that their main focus will be the economy. >> when you talk to voters about what they care about and the main issue we have to address effectively is job creation. and they don't want to talk about that because their candidate's record on that has fallen apart around his ears. >> right now, cuccinelli's challenger does have a slight advantage in the latest poll. a quinnipiac university survey

found that mcauliffe has support of 48% of supporters. jodi arias will tell the jurors why they should spare her life. she'll testify during a sentencing phase. she was convicted of first degree murder. she admits she killed her exboy friend but claims she did it in self-defense. she could get the death penalty. police are trying to figure out who made a bomb in colorado. it was spotted blocks from a park and elementary school in colorado springs. it was knead with commercial fireworks and it could have hurt someone if it exploded. the bomb squad had to deactivate it. we are hearing from a police officer recovering from a shoot-out with the suspected boston marathon bombers. he is eager to return to work as a police officer. transit police officer richard donahue was shot in the leg last month. a bullet severed a main artery in the leg. he's out of the hospital and at

all right, go tie, does it sound the same as a win? >> i like that. attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in young boys could lead to a battle of the bulge when they become men. researchers at new york university found men diagnosed with adhd as children are two times more likely to be obese. they say some of the symptoms can lead to poor eating choices like lack of impulse control and poor planning skills and inability to stick to a scheduled eating pattern can lead to obesity. they're recommending pediatricians monitor boys for signs of obesity. ginger may help asthma patients breath easily. they tested purified ginger on the airway muscle samples and they combined it with common asthma medications and found the muscles are more relaxed than those not treated with ginger. flood warnings rut around

welcome back. gas prices are up 6 cents. aaa reporting that the price of crude oil has risen, driving up gas prices. aaa says drivers will see lower prices at the pump this memorial day weekend than last year. the average now, $3.75 for regular unleaded. in maryland $3.50 and in west virginia, the average for regular unleaded is $3.65. weddings can be extravagant
