right here the mouth of the bay and then by 2:00 a.m. on saturday off the jersey coast. close enough to give us downpours tomorrow with blustery winds. for today, a cloudy morning. we'll have temperatures by noontime into the mid 70s. a look at the rest of this day. rain on the way. details in ten minutes. how's traffic? >> good morning. it's light volume in the area but a couple of trouble spots. i'm still keeping my eye on it in silver springs university boulevard here. this is what's happening at dennis. earlier crash is forcing you as you travel eastbound to either make a left or right on dennis avenue while they still clear the accident scene. volume is light so you can work your way around that. also paving. this is connecticut avenue from the beltway as soon as you head southbound you'll see the right side of the roadway blocked. one left lane will get you by. minor delay as you pass the work zone there. and shooting over to the dulles toll road heading out to the airport, no issues to report in

either direction. inbound looks nice as well. 15 minutes to get from 28 to the capital beltway. >> thank you, danella. >> developing this morning in southeast d.c., a search for answers to what caused flames to claim a d.c. landmark. look at this. frager's hardware just a shell of its former self after a four-alarm fire tore through that nearly century old building. megan mcgrath is on the scene with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. we have been able to move closer to the building since we last spoke to you. i'll step out of the way here so you can see the burned out shell here. this is what frager's hardware store now looks like. the landmark here on capitol hill around for more than 90 years was destroyed in this fire. investigators still on the scene. fire crews here as well keeping an eye on things. they had a number of hot spots flare-up overnight. they basically spent much of the night pouring water into the

building and so they're just standing by keeping an eye on things to make sure that they don't have anymore problems here this morning. this is what it looked like when the fire crawas really rolling. 200 firefighters were called here to the scene. fortunately all of the employees, the customers, they were able to get out. no one was injured. there were two minor injuries with firefighters but that was it. no one loss their lives. no major injuries here. this was a difficult fire to put out. there's a lot of stuff in there. a lot of merchandise. they have a lot of flammables, paint and other things that of course makes for a very dangerous situation in a fire like this. the flames spread to a couple buildings in the area as well. a tough fire to put out. what caused it? that's still under investigation. they're going to bring in investigators when the sun comes up. they'll start sifting around in the debris there trying to pinpoint the exact cause but right now they don't know. we should mention to people who

a developing story in philadelphia where the 14th survivor was pulled from the rubble of the building that collapsed. take a live look over the scene this morning now. six people died when the apartment building fell on a thrift store. right now the last missing person is recovering at the hospital. >> reporter: earlier this morning the last person unaccounted for was found alive buried beneath a mountain of rubble. 61-year-old was rushed here to the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. she is alive but in critical condition. surviving 13 hours after this accident yesterday. fire officials say they are elated to find the last person unaccounted for alive although she is in critical condition. news4's richard jordan is at the live desk with breaking news. >> this could be a turning point in the ongoing syrian uprising. syrian rebels have been able to

take control of a u.n. border crossing that links syria to israel. the only border crossing that connects these two countries and the concern at this point is that there could be a spillover across the border into israe is. the fighting continues there. it remains to be seen if rebels will be able to keep the hold on this area because president bashar al assad's army is there fighting trying to get it back. remains to be seen what will happen here. of course this is a big concern for israelis now as fighting moves very close right on their border. i'm richard jordan. >> north and south korea will resume talks to reopen the jointly run complex. tensions grew between the two governments after the north's nuclear test in february. a date for those talks to happen has not yet been set.

president obama heads to north carolina to to visit the charlotte area and talk about his plan to boost the economy. the president will speak to promote digital earning. it's the third stop on middle class jobs and opportunity tour. he visited austin, texas, and baltimore last month. the first lady will be in campaign mode in virginia headlining a fund-raiser in tyson's corner. tickets are $100. supporters who donate $5 or for can be entered into a contest to attend the event. ken cuccinelli's camp is asking supporters to donate $5 to show they can compete with white house star power. the new jersey democrat will lie in repose in the senate chamber today and will be buried tomorrow at arlington national

a developing story at 5:15. neither the white house or verizon commenting on a report that the nsa is collecting verizon customers' phone records. according to the british newspaper, the guardian, the government was given authority to collect the information for a three-month period that ends on july 19th. it's not clear why this is going on. the government can't listen to calls but it can find out what numbers were called and where the calls were made as well as how long the calls lasted. this morning transportation secretary ray lahood will announce a new partnership to combat human trafficking here in the u.s. human trafficking can take place on any mode of transportation. lahood will detail the new plan during a news conference at

reagan national airport this morning. leave your pocket nights at home if you' at home if you are heading to the airport. the proposal would have allowed passengers to carry sports equipment on board but the change was supposed to take effect in the next few days. lawmakers and airlines were against the plans saying it would pass passengers and crews at risk. this morning we're hearing of evidence a hollywood screenwriter had classified information when he wrote the film "zero dark 30." according to a pentagon report, leon panetta revealed the name of the commander of the raid that killed osama bin laden during a speech the writer was attending. this was weeks after the raid. panetta was cia director at the time. the report doesn't say whether panetta revealed the name accidentally. republican congressman peter king says this is proof the white house cut corners on security when dealing with hollywood executives. the controversial drone strike the u.s. military is

using overseas may not be as accurate as you think. nbc news got a look at classified documents that more than 100 drone strikes in pakistan in 2010 and 2011 and the u.s. can't determine how many people were killed in each strike. they can't identify who some of the people are who were killed either. many counterterrorism experts maintain drone strikes are far more precise than conventional attacks. >> it's combined the capabilities of surveillance strike and long endurance in one platform. >> they want to maintain the myth that civilians are not harmed with drone strikes which is simply implausible. >> the documents nbc news analyze show that just one known civilian was killed in those 114 drone strikes. today the fda will wrap up a two-day hearing reexamining the diabetes drug. the drug was black listed by the fda after many patients who were taking it suffered heart attacks but officials say there's not enough prove that the drug led

to those heart attacks. it became the top selling diabetes drug in the world in 2006. the family of a young girl in need of a lung transplant won a legal victory. a federal judge allowed sarah murnaghan to move to the adult list. organ transplant rules prevent children under the age of 12 from receiving adult lungs. lung transplants are considered the most difficult transplant surgeries and children tend to fare worse than adults. right now river front towns in missouri bracing for more flooding as the mississippi river crests. this is what a lot of homes look like in that area. a fortress of sandbags and tarps trying to keep the water out. the water already covers some roadways and bridges there and a second levee gave way in west alton yesterday. some thunderstorms are also expected in that area today

making conditions worse. we are tracking tropical storm andrea as she churns in the gulf of mexico. storm team 4 says that she will make landfall later today. it's raining heavily in florida. andrea could pack winds of 45 miles an hour but the rain is the real story. meteorologists say it could dump 3 to 6 inches of rain on the florida panhandle and some areas could see as much as eight inches of rain. >> tropical storm warnings being expanded along the eastern seaboard. we want to check in with meteorologist tom kierein. >> cloudy. a mild morning. temperatures around the region are generally in the low 60s in nearby suburbs in maryland and virginia. right now in the district of columbia we're in the mid 60s. mid 60s near the bay. a bit of a cool morning. upper 50s to near 60 in prince george's county. generally mid to low 60s in arlington to fairfax county low

looking at stories making headlines right now, firefighters monitoring hot spots on capitol hill after flames ripped through frager's hardware. two firefighters were hurt trying to put out that fire. rescuers in philadelphia say they pulled a 61-year-old woman alive from the rubble of a building collapse. the salvation army building was in the process of being demolished and tropical storm warnings now issued for parts of the east coast include southern virginia as andrea nears the florida coast. >> we're in the storm center now where tom kierein is keeping a

close eye on tropical storm andrea. we want to know when we can feel the effects of that tropical storm in that area. >> looks like tomorrow we'll have it come close enough to us to give us maybe heavy downpours and some blustery winds. looking at the storm team 4 radar, we're getting light rain moving into parts of west virginia and the shenandoah valley but east of there just some clouds now over the metro area. look at the heavy rain across southern florida. heavy downpours there. flooding problems up to 8 inches of rain in florida today. the center of circulation is well off the coast. you can see it in the radar image. the latest track will take it right across northern florida. this track just in. brand new information just coming in now. does look like it will track west of jacksonville, florida, be near savannah, georgia, by 2:00 a.m. on friday with maybe 45-mile-per-hour winds. it doesn't have a lot of wind with it but it will have copious

we learned last week that the agency spent more than $50 million on hundreds of conferences for its employees. this will be the third congressional hearing this week scrutinizing the u.s. >> now to richard jordan at the live desk. >> a double shooting in part of northwest d.c. the area is just about to reopen again after d.c. police spent about two hours investigating there. happened about 3:47 this morning on first street. police say they found two men shot. both of them had to be taken to the hospital. no word on their condition just yet. police are trying to gather some information to see if they can get a description of the gunmen involved here and try to track that person down. at the live desk, i'm richard jordan. >> we want to give you the latest developments out of southwest d.c. where firefighters have been on the scene of that massive fire all night long and right now they're watching for flare-ups and for the first time we are hearing mayor vincent gray's reaction to the destruction of a local landmark. just to recap for you here.

this started about 6:30 last night when an employee noticed a fire at the back of frager's hardware. it spread raising to four alarms that meant more than 200 firefighters and more than 50 trucks came to the scene there. it also drew a huge crowd. all of them mourning a loss of an institution include mayor gray. >> it's sickening to have to look at this hardware store which is really a staple on capitol hill and see what this fire has done to devastate. i call it an institution. it's been here for 93 years and i don't know what the owners would choose to do. we'll try to work with them. if they choose to try to restore it because i know people swear by frager's. >> everybody did get out of the building okay. one of the owners say that's thanks to a heads-up employee who went aisle by aisle to make sure everyone was out.

we're hearing the dispatch calls this morning and they paint a good picture of what firefighters experienced while battling that intense fire. >> all units respond to frager's. we have heavy fire conditions. the building is jammed. be careful going in. all units on the fire ground need to evacuate the building. evacuate the building. all engine companies i need you to hit your air horns. air horns. >> two firefighters were hurt. their injuries are minor though. the fire at frager's is the third major fire on capitol hill in just six years. this is april 2007. early morning fire that destroyed the south hall at eastern market. it took two years for the food hall to be rebuilt. in june of 2011 a staple among capitol hill bars. tune inn went up in flames. restaurant was able to reopen after a few months of repairs.

there will be arguments heard in a lawsuit filed against the city over rezoning of the waterfront property. three women who live near the area say they attempted to file a last-minute petition last year to stop the city council from taking the vote but it wasn't accepted because it was submitted past the deadline. they argue the petition should have been allowed and it would have forceded a super majority to pass the rezoning. a newly elected council passed the plan in march. d.c. council members will pass a plan to allow undocumented immigrants to get a license if they can prove they lived in d.c. for at least six months. according to a 2011 pew research center survey, 25,000 undocumented immigrants live here in the district. a rally in favor of the plan will be held before the meeting. that is set to begin at 10:30 outside of the wilson building. right now we want to take a closer look at this video. d.c. police need your help to find the people you see caught on this surveillance video.

investigators believe they are using credit cards they stole from a home on monroe street in northeast last month. the break in happened between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on may 29th. later that day the credit cards were used at this closing store on georgia avenue. if you recognize any of these men in the video, call d.c. police. 14 before the hour. d.c. police are trying to figure out if two violent home invasions within just an hour of each other are linked. the first happened on north capitol street in northeast about 3:00 yesterday morning. two men, won wit a knife, broke into a home. the owner picked up some ankle weights and yelled that he was coming to get the men. they escaped through a basement door. an hour later a couple woke up to two men in their bedroom. one with a knife, the other had a gun. they took money, iphones and laptops and one of the men tried to rape the woman. there was a struggle and a shot was fired. no one was hit though. >> in both cases at least one of the suspects had a knife so

they're similar enough in location and time frame and area that we're looking at them. we don't know for sure if they are linked or not. there's a possibility. >> police think the men responsible are young, possibly in their teens or 20s. we now know the name of the man who was killed in temple hills tuesday night. he's andre elmore. someone shot and killed him on buckland court around 11:00 tuesday night. detectives have not found his killer and they're still trying to figure out why someone shot him. elmore was 38 years old. he was from capital heights. a d.c. woman says she's relieved that police found someone and has that person in custody in her son's murder. the man shot and killed 31-year-old williams as he walked back to his home in march. they haven't said why they think he did it. olu williams was 31. he worked full time while earning a degree from catholic university. his mother says stories like his are too common around here.

storm andrea. first one of the new season for 2013. here's the position. it's still well off the eastern part of the gulf of mexico. it does look like it will track over the northern part of florida. the florida panhandle by this afternoon. by 2:00 a.m., here's the position. it will have 40 to 50-mile-per-hour winds. the main threat is heavy rain. the latest track takes it along the atlantic seaboard. the most likely track is the red line. the position by friday afternoon is going to be near the mouth of the chesapeake bay. here's washington. does look like it may be near ocean city by sunset on friday. 2:00 a.m. position on saturday is right here off cape may, new jersey. coming close enough to us to give us moderate to heavy rains during the day tomorrow. this afternoon might get light rain and tonight. highs in the 70s. those downpours tomorrow maybe an inch or two of rain and blustery winds and then maybe some lingering showers through midday saturday. some sun back saturday afternoon. partly cloudy on sunday.
