coast tomorrow afternoon. jay gray, redding beach, florida. veronica johnson, our meteorologist, is here to tell us when tropical storm andrea will be in our area. >> thanks a lot, barbara. of course, it's important to say the rain we've been getting around here today, some showers not associated with tropical storm andrea. but let me show you how big that storm is down to the south of us. we told you about andrea yesterday. look at the rains from miami all the way to jacksonville. it's florida through georgia and through south carolina. also look at the circulation and the spin right here, real easy to see where the center of circulation is and it's right there, and very, very soon it will be making landfall, i think, in the next couple of minutes, somewhere around cedar key, florida. they've been getting a title storm surge of 2 and a half feet and 30-mile-per-hour winds and in the tampa area, they've seen 3 inches of rain. this band of rain is tracking to the northeast at 70 miles an hour and expected to pick up forward speed.
4:03 pm
so the big rains they're getting down around florida and georgia, i don't think we're going to see as it makes its track eastward. here it is, by early tomorrow morning, right across eastern portions of south carolina, and by late friday, just to the east of our area. what i like is the consistency with a lot of the guidance and the computer models that we've been looking at all keeps it to the east, that forward speed cutting down on our rainfall totals. when i return a little later in the newscast, i'll tell you how much rain we are expecting from tropical storm andrea and what you can expect for your friday and right through the weekend. >> thanks, veronica. remember, you can stay on top of a storm any time with our weather app. download it free from itunes and google play by searching nbc washington weather. right now we're monitoring news from buckingham palace. let's go to jackie at the live desk. jackie? >> reporter: prince phillip is back in the hospital for some sort ofable problem, according to buckingham palace.
