>> there will be real tension and we'll get to that in a minute but in talking to senior administration officials about this, they have their oh, nothing to see here and they're shocked that that's going on between countries. countries do this to each other all the time. this is what happens at summits, this is what happens at negotiations. but that said, given what has happened and these summits, particularly the 1-on-1 relation ships between leaders are about trust so to add a level of distrust, particularly between the russians and there's a light hearted story about putin stealing a super bowl ring but i'm sure he won't be happy to hear the u.s. was involved in eaves dropping on his predecessor. >> they talk about syria and that has to be some of the primary work of the summit as they go on these couple of days. >> it is. the dominant issue of the summit

will be syria. it's a g- 8 but it's really a g-7 and 1. it will have a cold war atmosphere when president obama and putin have their 1-on-1 because they have a big disagreement over what to do about syria. >> reporter: after touching down, the president's first order of business, a speech to a mostly younger audience for north ireland's future. >> every single one of you possess something your generation before you did not. that's an example to follow. when those that took a chance on peace got started they didn't have a successful model to emulate. they didn't know how it would work. >> reporter: but the real focus of the quick trip is the g-8 summit as the u.s. and most of it's western allies try to prop up the country's two year civil war. tensions could run high between g-7 and russia as putin stuck by

syria's leader. he met with david cameron and his comments after that meeting may foreshadow a cold war-like exchange over syria when they meet later today. >> supply weapons to the government in regards of who has the blood of the children and peaceful citizens of syria, i believe you will not deny that the hands are on both of the parties. president obama is a reluctant supporter of arming the opposition and getting plenty of heat from congress. >> this is about whether or not we exert american leadership with our allies abroad both in the gulf region and in europe. >> last year he was isolated. he had very few friends. he was hanging by a thread. this year he is entrenched

hezbollah, iran and russia. >> the economy is taking a rare backseat at the summit. partly a reflection of the slow and steady recovery but how they pay taxes to the big 8 countries is likely to be a big issue. matt. thank you. something else expected to get attention the results of iran's election. a moderate cleric is replacing mahmoud ahmadinejad. he won overwhelmingly, what do we know about him? >> he's been backed heavily by the reformist but he's not a reformist. on the inner circle of the conservative rulers of iran. he has a good relationship with the supreme leader and the reformists that came out heavily

backing him. if it wasn't for the country's leading reformist he wouldn't have become president. >> when you think of the list of things the united states and iran disagree on. the nuclear program is one of the things that jumps out. how might this new president impact the direction of that program, if at all. >> well, he was chief nuclear negotiator during the late 90s, early 2000 and that's when they saw a suspension of uranium enrichment. he came under heavy criticism for that. it will be interesting to see what course he takes the nuclear program in. since he left power and ahmadinejad came into power they took a much harder line on the nuclear program. we'll have to see if he tries to reverse that at all or if indeed he can. >> most of the power in iran lies there so is he just a

figure head or will he have real power? >> we'll have to see if he can make tangible changes or this is just a softening turn. the supreme leader is the most powerful man in the land, the constitution says the president is the second most powerful man. we'll see easier negotiating part but the ultimate decision lie with the supreme leader and we don't know what he's thinking right now, matt. ali, thank you very much. well, firefighters in colorado are making more progress against the costliest wild fire in that state's history. david is in colorado springs this morning. david, good morning. >> reporter: good morning savannah. it is 65% contained right now but that doesn't mean the fire is out. they're calling it the blast forest fire and as we learned through the weekend as we toured the area, that's exactly what it looks like. we're talking 20 square miles

burned through neighborhoods. more than 500 homes have been burned to the ground here. two people have died and it's very hard for the 1200 crews that are out there and going acre by acre trying to put the fire out. it's burning in the most unusual places right now. not on a hillside, a ridge of fire you would normally see. this is burning underneath the ground and inside the trees -- yes, inside these ponderosa pines. it's very difficult but they're doing that this morning. thank you very much. >> encouraging news this morning about the health of britain's prince phillip. >> good morning. prince phillip left a london hospital walking out and waving ten days after abdominal surgery.

mccann. michelle is in london with this story. michelle, good morning. >> reporter: hey savannah. it's been since years since madeline disappeared from her bed in an apartment her family was renting in portugal. there the case went nowhere but today the british government is taking the step of funding it's own administration acknowledging the possibility too that madeline could still be alive. madeline's face is recognizable practically worldwide but no one has been able to say what happened to her. portugal closed the case. but the british government now is willing to reopen it funding it's own investigation with police here in the hopes of finally solving it. >> they have come up with some leads, some suspects they don't think were investigated properly. >> reporter: two years ago a small group of british investigators were tasked with looking over the portuguese files of the case when

madeline's parents said they were thinking on their three sleeping children every half hour while they were at dinner a few hundred yards away. she realized she was gone from her bed. >> my heart lurched as i saw now that behiebd them the window was wide open and the shutters on the outside raised all the way up. nausea, terror, disbelief, fear, icy fear. there's still leads and people to talk to that were never followed up. scotland yard said we are encouraged by the progress we are making and continue to identify potential lines of inquiry. and the mccanns just before the 6th anniversary of her disappearance in may appeared on british television. >> the search is on going. nothing is slowing down. if anything i feel like it's escalating and again, it's just be vigilant. please still take your posters on holiday and don't forget about that she is still missing. we haven't lost hope.

causing a stir of another kind. splashed across the british newspaper this morning photographs of lawson and her former advertising executive husband charles saatchi in a heated argument at a popular london restaurant. the pictures, some shocking in nature show saatchi grabbing lawson by the neck several times. >> she is the darling of british television community. there's nothing like a photograph capturing an incident like this to make fans sit up and listen on social media. that's exactly what happened in this incident. >> reporter: just as disturbing to those that have seen the photos is that no one steps in to help. several tweets condemned the alleged conversation. don't know what's worse, charles saatchi publicly assaulting nigella lawson or that not a single person intervened. while others offered words of report like stay strong nigella we love you.

personal lives or families lives. they have actually supported this kind of incident in the past in one of the other salons so i think what happened was the salon manager and then the human resources and or director, they just didn't follow what the normal policy would have been. >> i mean, could an employer legally say to on employee you are not permitted to be bald? in the air salon setting? if it was not sick but voluntary. >> well, if it was sick, we'd have a problem but if there is a dress code or uniform you need to wear and you know that going into your employment, that's one thing. if you're in the hair salon and it's about being creative and funky and it may generate conversation with the guests or with a client. so i'm not sure that a salon manager can say, well, you know, we want everybody to have long hair, especially if you have a guy cutting hair next to you and that guy is bald.

so what is good for the goose is good for the gander. >> interesting discussion to have. star jones, appreciate it. now over to matt. thank you. now our monday medical round up. sibling rivalry and daddy brain. nancy snyder is nbc's chief medical editor. get right to it. new study released overnight on sibling aggression. >> right. >> 32% of children said they were bullied by one of their own siblings so when we talk about bullying, what kinds of behavior are we talking about here? >> this is a landmark study, it's verbal, physical abuse or taunting. it's also destruction of property. a sibling stealing stuff or wrecking it. over 3500 kids, this is in the journal of pediatrics and it shows while you and i talking about peer bullying, especially in the school setting, family bullying, sibling to sibling can

have the same fall out. >> a lot of kids bullied by a sibling are also bullied by peers in school but what stuck out to me in the study is even if they are only bullied at home it can have the same kind of devastating effect emotionally. >> it can even be mild. so, a sibling stealing stuff out of your room, wrecking it, taunting you and they followed kids from 11 months all the way up to 17 and they found that whether mild or severe, the fall out of anxiety, depression, feeling more vulnerable in school, that mattered. so i would say the parents, if you wouldn't take certain behavior from a neighbor you don't take it from one sibling to another. >> i have three kids and sometimes it drives you crazy to see how they treat each other. rarely physical in my house but it does get emotional and this say great warning to say enough is enough. >> it's a good story. >> thank you very much. >> you bet, matt. a tough topic is being taken

up on sesame street for the first time, incarceration and it's impact on kid. erica hill is here with details on that. good morning to you. >> good morning. nice to see you. it may seem like an odd pairing but for kids who better to talk about having a parent behind bars than their friends on sesame street. this weekend some of the famous characters made a very special father's day at one new york jail. for more than 40 years, sesame street has been bringing kids those sunny days but never before inside a jail. her son hasn't seen his dad in six months. but today, she has made an exception bringing her 2-year-old to visiting day and reuniting her family because those familiar muppets promised a sunny day. it was a chance to spend much needed time with his son.

makes me laugh all day and i'm like you're not as good as howie mandell. >> mel b. >> strict but fair. >> howard stern. >> i would say stern. >> stern with you or the contestants. >> he's a lamb behind the scenes but when the red light is on and they're recording he gets quite stern. >> one of the things that's different about this show than other talent shows is children are allowed to participate. you're the mom of four. do you get nervous when you have to be brutally honest with a child on stage. do you think about what would it will like if your own children were up there. >> of course i kid comes on to the stage and i always root for them and hope they're going to be good. especially when they sing and you're like it's my turn and i have to tell the kid the truth. i have to though. i'm a judge. i can't say they sounded amazing if they didn't but i always

think as a parent you also have to be kind of honest with your child's talent and maybe you should think about it if you put them up for something like that. >> we all tell our kids they're great at everything which does them a disservice in the end. >> yeah. >> so you're judging other people's talent. they're standing up there. what is your biggest talent. please demonstrate it right now. can you sing. >> oh goodness. >> your an actress. >> i'm giving you a zoolander look. >> are you dr. evil? >> i couldn't think of anything. >> do you have a talent we don't know. >> probably not. i was always good at modeling. that worked out for me i guess. >> not too bad. we have someone in the audience, beth, that wants to ask you a question. >> hey beth. >> hi heidi. >> how are you. >> what's your question. >> i was wondering what your best beauty secret is for women

before. >> reporter: meet california painter tom everhart who has taken the peanuts comic strip and transformed it into this. pop culture has become pop art. colorful, vibrant, unexpected. the paintings are so popular they have been shown in exhibits around the world, even in paris at the louvre and recently in new york city. but everhart admits he never imagined his career would be linked to snoopy and friends. >> it was the last thing i expected. >> because. >> i had no education in cartooning. even as a child i wasn't interested in cartoons. i was interested in coloring books. >> reporter: in 1980 he met the peanut's creator charles schulz and the two became fast friends. >> we did nothing but drawing lines for hours. thin lines, fat lines.

>> is he a good artist? >> phenomenal. >> he became so adept at drawing the characters he did commercial projects for schulz and schulz kept encouraging the artist to explore the comic strip in his own work but the painter wasn't ready. >> you were scared. >> yes. absolutely scared. >> then in 1988 everhart was diagnosed with stage four colon and liver county and he had an aidea. >> i realized what does it matter if the art world excepts what i'm doing. this is for me. >> reporter: he was intimidated. he would only incorporate iconic things from the strip. first the piano and then woodstocks nest and then lucy's hair do. >> maybe this is the start of something big. >> reporter: one day it

happened, a character pigpen, finally slipped on to the canvas. >> what got you over that. >> him. >> he pushed you. >> he kept pushing and pushing. he said come on. >> what are you scared of? >> yes, exactly. >> hundred of paintings later the art still celebrates peanuts but as charles schulz demanded, everhart made the work his own. >> mr. schulz wanted me to create something in his language but with my own thinking and things from my own life. >> some are inspired by rap. >> o.g. dog stands for original gangster dog. >> reporter: and others inspired by artists like monet. and just as schulz's writing and humor were critical, everhart's titles add his unique twist. >> does this make me look fat. if you look, probably 4 to 500

woodstocks in black and white. >> do you ever worry anymore about what people think? >> no, i don't. i actually enjoy it. >> reporter: and while charles schulz died in 2000, everhart says he is always looking over his shoulder. >> what do you think he would say if he was here? >> he would be smiling. when he came to our studio several times he would say these look like my children. i can't believe i didn't draw these. >> how much do you miss him? >> i miss him every day. >> reporter: and the price tag, not peanuts guys. some of these paintings go for $150,000. it is a real testament to tom that schulz gave him his blessing to use the characters and if you hurry you can still see the paintings for a couple of more days in soho at the gallery in new york but they are gorgeous. >> you just made one guy very happy.

lid on. let him rest about 8 minutes in there. take him out, you pick him. we have the tail and the claw and the knuckle which is the best part. then you take your lobster meet. i like to leave my claws hole. if you get a huge claw, you cut it up a little bit. we have a homemade mayonnaise we make. it's let me based. >> is that a secret recipe for mayonnaise? >> anyone can make it. >> where are you from. >> my family is from maine but i'm lived in d.c. >> you're all over the city for the most part. >> we are. we're in washington d.c. and just opened a wonderful store. so we have lobster and lemonade out there at the beach. >> even if you mix this together on a very busy day in the summer, give me an estimate, how many of these would you sell? >> we park our truck and we will

what if your boss was sending inappropriate messages. what would you do? >> those questions were asked by good and bad.com in conjunction with mens and womens health magazine and the results were surprising. >> ian is an expert and contributor to men's health and she is featured editor for women's health. >> good to see you guys. >> this is a nationwide survey. let's start with the first question. what to do if your partner is facebook friends with his or her ex. 56% say it's not a threat. 17% would ask their friend to defriend their ex, 6% would friend the ex themselves. >> which i love. i think people are too cavalier and they're saying it's not a big deal but we see it all the time. people rekindle these relationships. their relationships with their partners are getting stress tested and they reach out to an ex. i like that 6.5% said if you want to be a friend with my boyfriend or girlfriend, you're

going to be a friend of the relationship. >> that's a great point and i think that we find at women's health that people that spend a lot of time on social media, especially facebook have higher levels of jealousy in their relationship. a little bit, okay. but things can get rocky and you don't want to be obsessively checking out who they're friends with. >> i don't friend anybody on my facebook. >> nice guy. >> yeah, okay, what to do if your boss sends you inappropriate sexual text messages. a majority of participants said they would send a message back to their boss saying that's inappropriate. larger numbers said they would go directly to human resources to report it or ignore it completely. this is a tricky situation. a lot of people, if you report you could face consequences. if you don't report you're going to be dealing with an even worse situation. >> absolutely.

the number one thing to do is do not text or if there is more of them, save it. you want that record. we agree you want to go to hr. confronting the boss directly as you said could get a little sticky so you want to go to hr with the record so it doesn't become a he said, she said thing and make sure you understand your company's sexual harassment policy. could be a firing offense so you want to protect yourself. >> 7.6% said they would use it to climb the corporate ladder. >> yeah. >> wow. >> and more men said they would do that than women. >> oh. >> next question, what to do if you find out your partner snooped through your personal messages like texts, e-mails or facebook. 56% would want to get to the root of why their partner was snooping but 41% expressed genuine concern for their partner's distress. what do you think? >> this is an all too common

situation. we're all on our smartphones. we're texting, we're e-mailing. it's natural to want to know who are you talking to or writing with and if your response is not revealing that can breed suspicion which leads to snooping. this happens very often. >> how should it be handled? >> it's interesting, a small but significant percentage said i'll give my partner my password. i think in a loving, trusting, committed relationship you should have nothing to hide and the concept of snooping shouldn't even exist in the first place. >> right. >> and here's another one, what to do if you discover that your partner is sexting with someone else. 68% would confront their partner about. 32% wouldn't. 20% said they would just flat out leave their partner. that seems like a high number. >> well look. look at what we're seeing in the news with folks like anthony wiener.

in some ways, the whole thing is out of control. it's interesting that a lot of people said they wouldn't do anything which tells me that a lot of the texts are probably not as graphic but more in that middle zone of flirtation. and i think in the end we have to get some control of technology. i think it's really just advancing at such a rapid pace that it's really ahead of our relationships. >> but yet very much a part of it as we know so i would say, you know, what is the text? is it a little flirtatious or is it more x-rated. we want to talk about what is a sext and what is more harmless. >> and flirtation too. how much are you going to allow in your relationship. >> throughout this study we saw in any flirting scenario people are willing to allow a degree of flirtation. whether it's with a partner's best friend. >> the survey said 45% would confront their friend if their friend was flirting with their
