for a store security guard. >> david? >> reporter: because of this search warrant that we pulled from court, we now know what happened inside this kmart behind me according to police. because of these court documents, we can tell you that inside that kmart according to police the threats against a victim from a security guard continued even after police got involved. we wanted to talk to tabbasum gilani out of jail on a $20,000 bond. we went to his home this weekend but no one answered. he was working as a loss prevention officer. during his shift on june 8th, a shoplifting. the suspect a 23-year-old woman. police say that gilani escorted her to the back of the store and the search warrant we pulled describes what happened next. he tells her that the offense was a felony and she will go to jail unless she does what he requests. the victim repeatedly refused

but gilani threatens to make sure the woman will go to jail if she does not give him some sort of sexual favor. police showed up and took the woman into custody. she told police her side of the story. police took her to the hospital to be examined and on the drive according to the search warrant, gilani is texting victim one offering to get the charges dropped and threatening to make sure she goes to jail if she does not respond to his call and messages. instead it was police that responded. last month sthey showed up at hs door. he owned up to the allegations and turned over his phone. >> that's a no-no. he should go down with the shoplifter. >> reporter: reaction from shoppers here today at this kmart. gilani will be back in court in august. we reached out to the folks at kmart for their reaction.

we haven't yet heard back from them. tonight metro is testing the emergency call system on a red line train after a fight broke out at the woodley park station. metro says two men started fighting on the train and it spilled onto the platform. we talked to one passenger who hit the emergency button for help but says there was no response. >> honestly i was terrified. there was a woman in front of and a couple other people that were ducking just in case there was gunfire and to think that the emergency button wasn't working. i was right next to it. hear an responding. i was completely paralyzed by my fear. >> metro believes there was some kind of communication between passengers and the operator because the operator was able to notify police. the fight was over by the time police got there. there were no serious injuries. the news4 i-team first told you about concerns about metr s emergency call buttons this

spring. we had records showing 170 malfunctions in the last year. the transit agency is considering posting signs in trains to make sure the calling process is clear. a nightmare commute. this crowd waited to get home after a long island railroad train derailed in a tunnel under the east river. nobody was injured but the accident left the track out of use while officials tried to figure out how to move the train. several routes are canceled and there are widespread delays. amtrak is also affected with trains from new york to boston delayed up to an hour. three football players at the naval academy could face sex assault charges as soon as tomorrow. they are accused of assaulting a female midshipmen last year. the case is moving into article 32 proceedings or the military equivalent of a grand jury investigation. the victim's family accused navy officials of moving too slowly

in the case. new tonight, president obama says he wants to reveal even more about the government's recently disclosed spying programs. jim handly is hat our live desk now with the president's explanation and a plea from the father of the man who leaked information about the nsa. >> in a brand new interview airing tonight, the president is defending two controversial nsa programs because he says there's nothing wrong with them. he spoke to pbs yesterday before he left for ireland. he said two nsa programs, one that collects verizon phone number records and another designed to track the use of internet services used by foreigners are transparent despite the fact the programs were authorized in secret. mr. obama said he wants to see what else intelligence officials can disclose to show there are checks and balances in place and to help ease concerns about privacy. meanwhile, the man accused of leaking those documents about the programs continues to defend

of the skyline towers on seminary road in falls church. inside police found a man and woman dead. neighbors had reported hearing loud screams before the shooting. police haven't said anything about a motive but believe it could be a case of domestic violence. the condition of a paramedic has been upgraded tonight from serious to stable. this follows a deadly crash near prince frederick, maryland. that paramedic was responding to a crash when another car drove into the path of her suv. police say the man driving the car was killed instantly. a stretch of route 4 was shut down earlier tonight. it's now back open. there could be a breakthrough tonight in the federal probe surrounding d.c. mayor vincent gray's 2010 campaign. the accounting firm is acknowledging that some of its staffers made improper contributions to many campaigns for more than a decade and that those contributions were reimbursed by local contractor jeffrey thompson.

thompson is accused of financing an illegal shadow campaign to get gray elected in 2010. gray declined to comment today but said he plans to review the city's contracts with that accounting firm. a few showers scattered around the area tonight. doug, more coming or what? >> i think we'll have more during the day tomorrow for sure. right now a couple light showers out there. earlier we did see some storms move through and some of us saw some rain, some heavy rain and even some hail out toward portions of loudoun county, southern portions of fairfax county too. you can see the storms dying off now. one thing you notice strongest storms up toward the chesapeake. a few in this area back toward loudoun county. this just developed. this was a bigger storm in fauquier county. right on the fairfax county line. storms around loudoun county and bigger one toward front royal. not a lot of lightning. just seeing rain. we do have a better chance of storms tomorrow. i'll show you just when i think those may hit. we'll take you hour by hour coming up. new tonight, we're hearing from one of the passengers who helped restrain a man on a

united airlines flight from hong kong to new jersey. it took several passengers and a flight attendant to wrestle the guy to the floor after he started ranting about national security. >> he was afraid of being poisoned and that he was receiving shots from other passengers. he saw everybody as a threat. he thought everybody was working for the fbi, the cia. >> the flight landed at liberty airport in newark. that was the scheduled destination. the fbi says the man is under evaluation in a hospital tonight. the man accused in a bizarre series of attacks on female shoppers in our area is now facing up to seven years in prison. h he entered a guilty plea today for allegedly using razors and box cutters who slash women's backsides on stores all over fairfax county. at least nine women were attacked back in the year 2011. surveillance video helped

there was a fight at a nationals/orioles game that got out of control. two men have been arrested. a 25-year-old man has a fractured skull. tonight police are hoping to hear from witnesses who may have seen 25-year-old get attacked. it happened at camden yards on may 29th. he just got out of a hospital and transferred to a rehabilitation hospital now. police say it started when he was heckled and had beer thrown at him because he was wearing a yankees cap. two people are in custody after a police chase that led to this crash and a two-hour long standoff with s.w.a.t. team members in los angeles. police went after this car which had been reported stolen this afternoon. the car collided with a van after a short pursuit. s.w.a.t. trucks surrounded the car but the suspects wouldn't

come out for hours. eventually officers threw a nonexplosive grenade known as a flash bang to stun the suspects who were then pulled out of the car. new video from a large organized bike ride in the district shows some riders making dangerous decisions right up until one gets hit by a cab. jim rosenfield spoke to the founder of d.c. bike party about what happened and is live near logan circle tonight. jim? >> reporter: they roll out by the hundreds here on the streets of d.c. it's supposed to be a safe light hearted group event. new home video shows riders are setting their own rules. just down the street at that intersection, a tough lesson caught on tape. these are pictures from the last d.c. bike party ride last wednesday as usual after rush hour with a predetermined route that winds up at a local bar with music and socializing. the goal, creating a sense of community and just fun. but what happened at the end of

this video posted on youtube presumably by a participating rider was anything but fun. a group of riders rides in the middle of the road. the biker in the white t-shirt, watch him first go through one red light and then another where he's broadsided by a cab driver. the driver obviously had the right of way. the cabbie stopped and the cyclist does seem to stumble to his feet without major injury. what do you think when you see that in terms of the lack of respect for traffic signals? >> stupidity. >> bicyclists need to follow rules like cars do. if it's a red light, you should stop. i don't wish that on anybody. he should have stopped. >> reporter: i spoke by phone tonight with the founder of the bike parties who says safety is always stressed before each event. >> it's just really not representative of everything we reiterate over and over and over knowing that there are going to be several hundred people that come out to these rides.

we know to reiterate to be safe, stay in the right lane, don't right ahead of marshals. >> reporter: organizers had a meeting planned by this wednesday to reassess leadership on these rides and beef up volunteer ranks of marshals along the route. jim rosenfield, news4. >> thank you, jim. with this warmer weather, lots more people are out on their bicycles. be careful out there. >> a little bit on the humid side today too. showers earlier even some stronger storms and some hail. now not seeing a whole lot. it's still on the warm side. take a look. i have one shot here from our city cam and another shot of the capital and you notice what color the capital is. normally on a beautiful sunny day you look at a white building. right now with all of the humidity in the atmosphere, looks a little orange, doesn't it? that's that haze. that summertime haze that we've got across our region. high temperature today made its way to 86 degrees. a low of 73. record high today is set at 95 degrees. set three times on this date.

right now, still a very warm 79 degrees. that dew point over 70. so very warm. very muggy. you step outside and you can feel it quickly. winds out of the southwest at 7 miles per hour. we may actually see some fog in some areas that develop overnight especially those areas that have seen some rain. 73 right now in leesburg. here's cooler area. charlottesville. a ton of rain. flash flood warnings around that region today and a few storms making their way around the d.c. metro area and even around d.c. there's still a couple developing. these storms are gone. watch the latest frames here. right in here we are looking at more storms starting to develop and we'll see this trend over the next few hours. showers down in portions of southern fairfax county over toward south of fairfax and then over toward western loudoun county and to the north of front royal looking at these showers continuing to develop and move to the east. we'll continue to watch those as we make our way through the next

couple hours. by early tomorrow morning, most of the shower activity should be out of here. maybe some fog and lower clouds. and then look at what happens around 12:00, lunchtime showers trying to develop and storms as well. some could be on the strong side. right now not anticipating anything severe but i would not be surprised to see some locally heavy downpours and potential for hail and stronger winds. tomorrow afternoon around 3:00 best chance south and east of i-95 toward southern maryland. just about everybody getting in on the chance. not widespread but if you do see a shower, it may be a brief heavy downpour before it moves out. by 9:00 tomorrow night, most of the area on the dry side but potentially more showers back there. typical summer type pattern over the next few days. 70 in washington. 67 toward fredericksburg. tomorrow afternoon, high temperatures into the 80s. still rather humid. 85 in d.c. 84 in leesburg. 84 in frederick. we will see those showers and

two-run home run right here and tigers take a 2-0 lead. the os have a slugger of their own. his name chris davis. max scherzer can throw 100 miles an hour. davis is unphased. home run to almost the same spot that cabrera hit his. 24th of the year for davis. tigers lead cut to one. davis has four more home runs than anybody else in baseball. scherzer gets his revenge. davis goes down swinging with bases loaded. tigers win 5-1 and scherzer improves to 10-0 on the season. game three of the stanley cup finals in boston and things got ugly for the blackhawks before the game even started. the star forward scratched from the lineup after getting hi int a puck during warmups. scoreless in the second period. bees with the puck here.
