little river turnpike, inner loop and outer loop nice and clear heading to the american legion bridge. again, no accidents. no delays. and as you cross over to the beltway in prince george's county, this is in temple hills. again, inner loop and outer loop getting by without any problems. i'm back in ten minutes. aaron and richard, back to you. >> thank you. back to melissa mollet at the live desk. >> we know the mayor of los angeles asking those demonstrating in the streets there to practice peace. they're protesting a jury's decision to clear george zimmerman, of course, in the shooting of trayvon martin. overnight, they have been throwing rocks at police and blocked traffic on a freeway. overall, protests have been pretty peaceful. we know one person has been arrested. we head north to oakland, california. officers this in riot helmet dispatched after report of vandalism by a group of masked protesters. you also see them blocking traffic for some time, as well. also heading east at times

square, another rally for the slain teen as thousands gathered. we know seven people were arrested in new york city overnight. some speaking as you can see there. others holding signs, also chanting "trayvon." at the live desk, melissa mollet. the national black church initiative is rallying outside the justice department at noon. the justice department is looking at the case. federal prosecutors may file criminal, civil rights charges against zimmerman. the justice department opened an investigation last year but stepped aside so the state could prosecute zimmerman. zimmerman has sued nbc universal, the parent company of this station, for defamation. the company strongly denies these allegations. at howard university, dozens gathered on campus to express anger over the verdict. >> this is not the nation that we should be living in that a man because he felt threatened

because of how someone looked, that he could shoot trayvon, this teenager. >> this was another rally in washington yesterday. this one was in meridian hill, park. this story is far from over. we'll cover every development. our team is updating nbcwashington.com so you can stay up to date when you can't watch. pay attention to a crucial meeting on capitol hill today. senators from both parties will try to avoid a bitter partisan feud. democrats want to change the rules on executive branch nominations. they want to prevent minority parties from using filibusters to block the nominations. republicans say they will retaliate by slowing progress on several pieces of legislation. a man arrested outside the home of secretary of state john kerry will be in court today. police arrested the 29-year-old man yesterday after state department officers noticed him parked outside kerry's boston home. he was apparently taking picture. police say the man claimed he was taking the pictures to show a friend, but then he deleted

them. when they asked him to move his car, he said he had been drinking. police also found a pellet gun in the car. secretary kerry was not home at the time. 4:34. let's check in with melissa mollet at the live desk. just in, 18 people have been killed in a stampede at a boxing match in indonesia. take a look here. this happened in protest after a local boxer's loss at a championship match. now this happened in the eastern part of the country. you see the aftermath there. many of the victims were trampled. media reports saying the stadium only had two working exits. again, the riot began after the boxer's supporters ended up throwing chairs at the judges. 12 of the dead were women. dozens more were hurt including childre children. we've learned that asiana airlines plans to sue a san francisco tv station. that station used fake and racially offensive names to identify the pilots of flight 214. asiana released a statement saying the names seriously

damaged the airline's reputation, and they decided to respond strongly. an anchor for ktvu read the phony names on friday which also appeared on screen. the anchor then apologized after a commercial break. the ntsb had all apologized saying a summer intern falsely confirmed the names of the crew. asiana says they haven't decided whether to file a similar suit against the ntsb. we're also learning how difficult it may be for some victims of the crash to receive compensation. legal experts say the people board should have no problem filing suit and could be given as much as $1 million for a broken bone or upwards of $5 million to $10 million if they were paralyzed. the 227 fore foreign passengers may not be able to file in the united states and settlement overseas are far less, tens of thousands of dollars. asiana is required to offer some initial assistance to help with medical bills and any travel costs. a new warning this morning

welcome back. today former president, george h.w. bush, and barbara bush will honor service volunteers with their nonprofit points of light. mr. bush and president obama will hand out the 5,000th daily point of light award winner. it recognizes volunteers who have made a difference in their activities. today this will be a march for immigration reform and jobs. the conservative black leadership alliance will hold a march at freedom plaza. from there they will march on to the capitol. the group is urging congress to protect american jobs for american workers. they do not want congress to pass legislation that creates a path to citizenship for people living in the u.s. illegally. right now a stinky plant is about to bloom at the u.s. botanic garden. the plant is commonly known as the corpse flower. that's because it produces a very nasty odor that smells like rotting flesh apparently. i'll take your word for it. because of all the excitement, the garden will extend its hours

blueprint of how the nsa is structured and operates according to the journalist who first reported the leaks. glen greenwald of "the guardian" says the documents would allow someone to know exactly how the nsa does what it does. he says that couldal huh them to evade or copy the same type of surveillance. >> has basically the instruction manual for how the nsa is built. there are were programs that have been revealed similar to nature to the ones we have revealed. or not similar in nature but similar in scope. >> greenwald says he doesn't think the documents would hurt national security. but could embarrass the government. snowden has asked that the documents not be made public. he's still holed up in a moscow airport seeking asylum. breaking news now from the korean peninsula. we just learned that leaders from north and south korea have ended talks to reopen a joint industrial complex without reaching an agreement. this was the third time leaders

from the countries met to discuss the complex's future. the complex is located north of the demilitarized zone that divides the two koreas. closed in april amid heightened tensions between the rivals. no word if they plan to meet again. today the trial on the constitutionality of pennsylvania's voter identification law will begin. the law requires each voter to show a valid photo i.d. at the polls. it is one of the strictest in the country. supporters say it will prevent voter fraud. critics say it could prevent elderly and minority voters from going to the polls. cirque du soleil will perform their first show since an acrobat fell last month, about 90 feet above the stage at the mgn in las vegas. tomorrow's show will be dedicated to the performer. the act that was part of the accident will no longer be part of the show. today, canadian medical examiners will conduct an autopsy to determine what killed actor cory montieth. he played finn hudson on the

show "glee." staffers found his body saturday at a hotel in vancouver, canada, when he missed his checkout time. police say there is no indication of foul play. montieth did have a history of addiction. he talked about struggling with drugs since he was a teenager. he checked himself in to rehab in april. montieth was 31 years old. a microracer tried to top 300 miles per hour but died after losing control and zooming off a runway at a former air base in northern maine. this is video of one of bill warner's test runs yesterday morning. warner was clocked at 28 miles per hour when he crashed. he launched 40 feet into the air and 100 yards down the track. before his last run, warner and his crew were worried about increasing winds. this morning, a beach in indiana is closed after a 6-year-old boy fell into a giant sinkhole. we're also hearing the frantic call for help. take a listen. >> my friend's son, he got stuck in a sand dune. and he's like under the sand,

and we can't get him out. >> okay, can anybody see him, sore he completely covered by sand? >> yes, my husband and his dad are trying to dig him out. >> right now, that little boy, nathan wasner, is listed in critical condition. he fell in the hole friday while playing at a beach in michigan city, indiana. took teams more than three hours to get him out. park rangers say it's not clear how the hole formed. it is now tougher for women to get an abortion in northern virginia. according to the "washington post," novo women's health care just closed. performed more abortions than any other clinic in virginia in the past two years. we don't know why it shut down. we can tell you pro-life activist protested outside every day. it probably needed to upgrade its facility, as well. virginia requires abortion clinics to have hospital-grade facilities. d.c. planners are backing off a proposal that could have reduced the number of parking spaces in the district. according to the "washington post," the so-called parking

minimums plan would have eliminated requirements developers have in some areas to include parking spaces in their plants. many said it would only have made finding curbside parking even harder. this morning, we're getting an idea of how many people rely on car loans in virginia. according to the state corporation commission, lenders in the commonwealth gave out more than 161,000 car loans last year alone. that's worth more than $180 million. that's up significantly from the year before. last year about 20% of borrowers didn't make a monthly payment for two months. more than 13,000 cars were repossessed. 4:50. it's being billed as the sweetest comeback in history. you can find your favorite cream-filled sponge cake on store shelves again today. twinkies and products including mini muffin, ho-hos, susie qs, and zingers are back after a hiatus. hostess closed plants and bakeries in november when the company filed for bankruptcy. the company is now under new

thunderstorm popping up. best idea, stay cool. be by a pool, in the water, or stay in the a.c. unless you have to be outside. just a good idea to stay inside. it is dangerous heat. we're not used to it this time of year. it is going to be a heat wave through the week. look at the high temperatures expecting. should be the hottest days tuesday, wednesday, thursday. should be hitting the upper 90s each one of those days. and maybe even isolated spots near 100 degrees. probably no record heat. just steamy humidity, hazy sunshine, only a slight chance of an isolated storm each day. and then as we get toward the weekend, still hot and humid on friday. saturday and sunday, we do have a chance of some isolated storms and, thankfully, the end of the heat wave. looks like this is not going to be one of those two or three-week-long heat waves just lasting five or six days. into the upper 80s, near 90 sunday. both days on the weekend could get a few isolated thunderstorms popping up mainly during the afternoons. i'm back in another ten minutes

welcome back. gas prices are going up. unrest in egypt and decline of u.s. supplies and ride of crude oil prices are affecting prices at the pump. aaa reports the average in d.c. is $3.80 a gallon now for regular. in maryland, it is at $3.59. in virginia, you'll see the lowest at $3.41. finally in west virginia, it's $3.59 a gallon. you may want to slow down and not use your gas speeding. "consumer reports" found slower speeds can maximize your fuel economy on the highway. they found driving 75 instead of 55 miles per hour cost you $5 to $7 in gas. they found the higher speed did save the driver an hour behind the wheel, though. that doesn't factor in all the extra trips to the gas station. get this -- you'll be part of an out-of-this-world picture. nasa is taking a photo of earth -- of earth from saturn this
