check of our forecast this morning, jacqui. >> good morning, guys. we're looking at another warm and muggy day. we've got quite a bit of cloudiness across the area and a few sprinkles, light rain showers northern maryland, washington county near home invasiontown to west virginia, martinsburg is getting wet, i think that's going to stay north of the metro area so anything will be light, short lived and not very widespread, however, things are going to be changing as we head into the afternoon hours for today and there you can see our weather headlines featuring warm and muggy conditions. we'll see some showers and thundershowers this afternoon that could produce some heavy downpours and there could be some standing water on some of the roadways as that heavy rain comes down. but the weekend, which, of course, is upon us -- happy friday, by the way -- are looking better. we can't rule out showers altogether this weekend but the majority of it is looking better. we'll have that in your end in in a few minutes. right now from the belfort furniture weather center, we

need to go to wtop, amanda is out today and bob bob is in the wtop traffic center. >> 295 moving well into town, no issues coming in on pennsylvania avenue or on route 50. we're steady headed through annapolis and bowie, coming in on route 50, right now 97 a good go on the north and southbound direction, checking in without any major incidents. looking good through southern maryland, through brandywine or clinton, and folks traveling in virginia no accidents affecting i-95, should be a smooth roll from fredericksburg through quantico headed up the northbound direction. i'm rob woodfork live from the wtop traffic center, let's go back to jummy and scott. >> thank you, rob. the president is expected to address a new terror threat at today's news conference. the state department evacuated nonessential personnel from a consulate in northeastern pakistan to the main u.s. embassy in islamabad.

the government also warned americans to stay out of pakistan. >> it's proven to protect lives and it's certainly important to keep the terrorists from being able to carry out a truly devastating attack. >> the state department said the threat is not related to the closure of 19 diplomatic posts in the middle east and he north africa earlier in week. president obama will hold a press conference today. >> that's right. he's expected to answer a number of questions before he goes on vacation, anywhere from terror threats to frosty relations with russia. we go to brianne carter with more. bri. >> good morning to you, jummy and scott. that's right, we haven't heard much from the president on a number of these issues but we expect that will all change later this afternoon. he has scheduled a press conference here in the oval office at the white house and we expect he'll talk about a host of issues including this latest

terror alert as well as the relationship between the united states and russia. as you may recall earlier this week president obama cancelling his one-on-one meeting with russian president vladimir putin. white house officials said at the time a lack of, quote, significant progress on a wide array of critical issues between the two countries as the reason. we do expect he will expand on that later today. now, one issue, of course, is that of syria. we know the two leaders are on very different sides when it comes to that issue and then putin's decision to grant temporary asylum to edward snowden may be the tipping point on this. this comes on the same day that secretary of state john kerry and his russian counterpart are scheduled to meet. reporting outside the white house, abuse. >> thank you. two children are in protective custody after police say their own mother took them from the hospital.

>> this led to an hour-long manhunt before the three were found. let's go to john gonzalez outside police headquarters with more on this story, john. >> jummy and scott, that's right, the children safe and sound, we're told, back in protective custody this morning but still a lot of questions. this was a seven-hour manhunt and it all started at children's hospital here in the district. police calling this a parental abduction. now, we want to show you a couple of photos, this is 27-year-old makesha thunderburg, the mother of the two children. she was seen on surveillance video at around 4:00 yesterday afternoon just outside the hospital moments after police say she kidnapped her own children while they were with social workers. the children were in the custody of a social worker at the time. the boys were initially taken from their mother and brought to the hospital because of reports of bruises on at least one of the boys' bodies. it's unclear if the children were being seen by a physician

at the time or if they were in the custody, physically in the custody of protective services when they were taken. again, this was around 4:00 in the afternoon. and one big question this morning, how did the mother leave the hospital with the two children. hospital officials have not returned our calls. now, after a long search we're told the mother and the children were found somewhere in rockville and, again, the children are not harmed. we're told they are safe and sound this morning. and charges against the mother are pending. reporting live at d.c. police headquarters, john gonzalez, abc7 news. >> all right, thank you, for that update, john. 75 degrees, 5:06 your time on this friday morning. >> still ahead on "good morning, washington" we've got some good news out of california this morning. crews there making progress in battling that raging wildfire that's destroyed more than 20 homes so far. we'll have the details c

rockville. >> president obama is expected to address terrorism and strained relations with russian at a news conference this afternoon. secretary of state john kerry and defense secretary chuck hagel will hold meetings with their russian counterparts. police are looking for a man who shot and killed a man in the 4100 block of weaver road. police are looking for a man wearing a white tee shirt and red ball cap. jummy. >> the wildfire in california is 75% contained. the fire destroyed 26 homes and threatened 500 others. 1800 people have been forced to evacuate that area. the blaze broke out wednesday afternoon 99 miles east of los angeles and it's really spread quickly. it now covers 22 square miles and it's still unclear what caused that fire. >> track work disruptions on metro from 10:00 tonight until closing on sunday.

hagerstown and skirting on into part of westminster and right along the mason-dixon line. it's not going to amount to much. it should stay north of the metro area at least for now but later on this afternoon the next batch of rain should be pushing in and we could see heavy downpours at times. that could affect your evening commute. the cold front is off to our west. it's finally making a little bit of progress now and it looks like it's going to be sweeping through here late tonight so cross your fingers it doesn't linger on top of us because this is the first time we've seen a little more confidence in our computer model forecast showing the heavy rain today and into tonight. but then overnight we start to clear things out. so stray showers still possible by tomorrow morning, on saturday, but the rest of us looking pretty good, just warm and muggy from time to time. as we take a look at our forecast then in detail for today. looking for partly cloudy skies, showers and thunderstorms mainly today and into the evening. 85-90 degrees. tonight mostly cloudy, a few showers and thunderstorms also

weather this morning. healed over to meteorologist jacqui jeras for a check of today's forecast. jacqui? >> well, today looking a lot like yesterday, once again, cloudy skies, breaks at times with peeks of sunshine and then heavy downpours late in the day. this pattern continues but we do see an end in sight, just so you know. live super doppler~7 showing a few showers, all very light, martinsburg, hagerstown getting wet, most of that will stay north of the metro area. weather headlines, warm and muggy, cloud cover. but thundershowers will be heaviest late this afternoon and this evening and we could have a little standing water on some of the roadways as a result of both. but the weekend overall is starting to look better. not ruling chances of rain all together but the majority will be dry with some sunshine. details coming up in your seven-day forecast in a few minutes, but right now from the belfort furniture weather center let's go to wtop. amanda's on vacation now and in is rob woodfork. hey, rob. >> jacqui, good morning.

let's go live to john gonzalez live outside d.c. police headquarters with the latest on this story, john. >> jummy, a possible child abuse case turned abduction this morning we're told the two children, the two boys, are safe and sound, but still a lot of questions. now, this was a seven-hour manhunt and it all started, of all places, at children's hospital here in the district. police calling this a parental abduction. now, we want to show you a couple of photos here. this is 27-year-old mikisha funderburk. she's the mother of 5-year-old markale and 10-year-old marquis. she was seen on surveillance video at around 4:00 yesterday afternoon just outside of children's hospital, moments after, police say, she kidnapped her own children while they were with a social worker. now, the boys were initially taken from their mother and brought to the hospital because of a report of bruises on one of the boys. it is unclear if the children

showers off to your east, stretching town to shepherdstown, i-70 right now and one shower moving into winchester, off to the east, light to moderate rain as well. do think all of the showers will stay to the north of the metro at least this morning. 78 is our temperature right now at reagan national airport. it's a little bit on the breezy side, it's definitely warm and muggy. 73 degrees in frick, 73 in winchester and 78 degrees in quantico. our satellite and radar will show you, even if you're not getting the rain right now you likely will later today. we've all got the cloud cover and that's spread all across the mid-atlantic and throughout the northeast. our cold front's still way back here. it's been kind of stalled out the last few days and there you can see it, we'll likely trigger showers and thunderstorms as it makes progress toward us later on this afternoon. our futurecast i think times this out pretty well for us, where the showers stay to the north this morning. then this afternoon they become a little bit more widespread.
