alexis murphy. korff whoright to jay has been following this in the newsroom. >> huge development in the disappearance of alexis murphy. state and local authorities have taken a man in custody and charged him with abduction in connection with this case. they have a suspect. they are still searching frantically for alexis murphy. it has been more than a week since loved ones heard from 17- year-old alexis murphy. the virginia resident vanished while reportedly driving south last weekend. surveillance pictures show her at a gas station not far from her home. investigators say they picked up her cell phone signal a few miles away and searched area homes but to no avail. on tuesday, her car was found in charlottesville. we spoke with her on. be latee knew she would for her curfew she would say, i am running 10 minutes behind, i

excited despite their sense of security being shattered this summer. , 22-f their classmates year-old omar sykes, was shot and killed near campus on the fourth of july. two weeks later, police say a high school visitor to howard was forced into a classroom and sexually assaulted. neither crime has been solved. they are hoping to see changes when school starts. >> definitely more security. i do not know how they train them, but definitely security. >> that is the plan. more police on and around the campus. even on this quiet afternoon you see that. the "washington post" reports guards will be posted at dormitories and a 24-hour shuttle service will be available to off-campus buildings. police will patrol the campus. that is not the image he wants for his alma mater, but as a freshman he was warned about violence.
