olabanji. >> and i'm scott thuman. speaking of weather, let's get to jacqui jeras to talk about the temperatures because it's going to warm up nicely, isn't it, jacqui? >> i know, if you're missing summer, well, it's back today, that's for sure but it's not going to stick around much longer. this morning we're waking up to 70-plus degrees across much of the metro area. 75. you can sigh a little bit of the fog in the outlying areas. it looks a little hazy, doesn't it? you also see a pink glow. that's as the sun is starting to rise. our weather headlines, we do have i a dense fog advisory, it includes you in culpeper, we do expect a warm start to this workweek. near 90 this afternoon but a much cooler end of the week and showers and thunderstorms will be around tomorrow. a few of which could be severe. especially south and east of the metro. we'll talk about that in more detail. and timing as well with your seven-day forecast. from the belfort furniture weather center let's find out how the roads are. things are starting to pick up. rob woodfork is at wtop. >> that's right, jacqui. right now we are dealing with a

crash on 95 northbound near 123 now, that appears to be off to the right shoulder. however, you're dealing with debris in the right lane and that has touched off an early delay as you head northbound towards the purple heart bridge and points to the north towards the springfield interchange. folks traveling in town, trying to access the case bridge, they just cleared an incident on the inbound case bridge so you should find those travel lanes open there but then outbound still dealing with the disabled vehicle. you're getting by in two lanes to the left but that has traffic starting to pick up as you head westbound on the freeway. also watch out for a disabled vehicle blocking the ramp from the gw parkway southbound to the key bridge. park police were blocking that and we're looking good at 66 no reported incidents or accidents and 270 moving well as you approach germantown. rob woodfork from the wtop traffic center. jummy and scott back to you.

>> we have a developing story out of southeast d.c. >> that's right, firefighters quickly knocked down an apartment fire but we're told at least one person has been injured. brianne carter carter is at the scene. bri? >> jummy, crews are wrapping up. they say they'll be allowing some residents back in the apartment complex shortly. we do understand that one woman was taken to the hospital with burn injuries. her condition at this point remains unknown. we do know that the fire started in a second-story apartment. and they say the fire was contained to that apartment but that there was some minor smoke damage to three other apartments as well. now, a number of residents have been outside waiting to get back in their homes. again, i just spoke with fire officials. they say the lower-level apartments are going to be able to go back in very shortly. what caused this fire? that remains under investigation at this point. i understand from some people here on the scene, they say when police arrived they were able to help get some residents arrived.

no one suffered injuries beyond that one woman we understand is in her 20s suffered burn injuries. cause remains under investigation. reporting live in southeast, brianne carter, abc7 news. >> bri, thank you. we're also following a developing story from a resort near disney world in florida. a sinkhole caused a three-story villa at the summer bay represent resort at clermont to collapse. two other villas were also evacuated. >> one person had to break out of the window because the door frame collapsed on him and his wife and infant. he had to break the window so they could escape. >> officials say the hole is 40 to 50 feet in diameter and getting deeper. no injuries reported, though. >> new this morning, investigators rule a maryland woman's death a homicide. the body of 32-year-old moneta strickland was found along three notch trail in mechanicsville. investigators have not said how she died but an autopsy ruled the manner of death a mom.

according to her website, strickland was engaged to be married next month. >> the fbi announced an arrest connected to the disappearance of 17-year-old alexis murphy. she disappeared august 3rd on a drive to lynchburg. her car was found in charlottesville later and surveillance pictures show murphy at a gas station not far from home. the fbi did not release many details about this arrest but we could learn more later today. >> and we could find out today or we will find out today who is holding the winning powerball ticket worth $1 million. virginia lottery officials will present the winner of the prize at the store where they bought the ticket in nannen daily, virginia. >> two nationwide amber alerts ended this weekend. >> coming up, the questions still lingering behind both of those cases. we'll be right back.

shower last night. we have a dense fog advisory in effect until 8:00 this morning from warren through rappahannock into culpeper and orange counties. everybody to the south and west of there. and that visibility may drop down to below a quarter mile at times. use some caution. might be patchy into the metro but nothing significant. we've been seeing touches you have that around manassas. if you'll be traveling today you should be fine overall. pop-up showers and thunderstorms to the south and the midsection. travel plans to kansas city, nashvilleville, atlanta, there may be delays because of that. here it looks like. a stray somehow but overall partly sunny skies, highs approaching 90 days. big cooldown in your seven-day forecast. details coming up in a few minutes. right now it's time to hit the roads with rob woodfork at wtop. hey, rob. >> hey, jacqui. it's the monday morning commute for sure. * 5 in virginia headed

alert. i see i see -- isaiah perez was found wandering around a housing project not far from the home where the woman's body was found. police arrested a man. but didn't offer the connection to the woman or the boy. >> 16-year-old california girl after kidnapped has been reunited with her father. hannah anderson disappeared last week. the bodies of her 8-year-old brother and her mother were found in the burning home of a family friend, james dimaggio. this past weekend fbi hostage teams rescued anderson in the idaho wilderness and killed dimaggio. >> attorney general eric holder will announce changes to federal sentencing guidelines in a speech to the american bar association today. he will also detail some of those changes including cutting down on lengthy prison sentence with nonviolent drug offenders with no connection to gangs or cartels. >> looking for the thief of two

puppies by putting them in his pants. >> security video shows a man smuggling a dog out of the pet store in his pants before returning to steal another one just a few minutes later. police said two accomplices used a child to distract store employees. hmm. >> which is more wrong using the puppy or using the kid. yikes. >> we've got better news on the weather front at least. >> we do. overall a great week. we've got a couple things we're concerned about. fog this morning and then a slight risk of severe thunderstorms tomorrow. let's start out with what we have this morning and that is warm conditions. and a little bit of fog. you can kind of see the haze there on our roof cam on the top of the belfort furniture weather center here at wjla. 72 degrees, dew point 69. winds are light enough, got a little bit here in d.c. that's helping us mix things up a little bit and preventing from fog being a concern here but we're seeing that out to the west, winchester 66, 72 degrees

in culpeper and visibility down to a third a mile. half a mile in orange, manassas we've been seeing it a little bit here and there, patchy fog in winchester, two miles visibility. hagerstown shy of a mile but we're doing ok in the inner city and i think we'll continue to be just find but keep in mind the other areas for the morning commute. quite a bit of cloud cover. a few breaks in the clouds here and there. all the showers stayed up to the northwest. i don't think we'll see a lot of action today. late today and into tonight the stray shower or thundershower as this frontal boundary still remains parked right here. warm and humid on the south side of it. kind of moderate to the north of it but the much cooler airway up here into the upper midwest and that's going to swing on through by late tomorrow. let's talk timing here. this afternoon, partly sunny skies, notice the temperatures, we're talking mid to upper 80s. in fact, a few spots could reach 90 degrees. an isolated shower or storm will be possible later on for tonight but by tomorrow morning, that's when we're going to see more

widespread showers, keep that in mind for the morning commute. make sure you've got the umbrella for you tomorrow. a few thunderstorms could be strong or severe south and east of the metro area and then the cold front will drop on through by late in the evening skies will clear out and we have an unbelievable middle to latter part of the week for you. today a little patchy fog early, partly sunny, isolated thunderstorms possible late 86-91 degrees. for tonight showers or thunderstorms mainly towards more than 76-74 degrees. the rest of the great seven-day forecast you've got to have god blessed and if you don't have any we know where you can find them adam caskey joins us. >> silver spring outside the discovery building and the platform off to my left down the street a little bit. spot the q. we're promoting the queen latifah show. starting on saturday or, i should say, in september here at

abc7. we have a special guest here. the queen herself. queen, looks like you lost a little bit of weight. look good, girl, yeah, yeah, by the way, we're handing out these sunglasses. here at the metro stop. we have your seven-day forecast forecast, wednesday through friday looking great, bright sunshine, low monument and let's go to rob right now to look at our commute. >> the queen is giving you the cold shoulder there. right there the commute on 95 northbound near 123, watch for the activity along the right side. at last check we had state police on scene helping to clean up some debris out of the right lane there. the crash itself should be along the right shoulder but the damage is done in terms of delays. expect to see brake lights starting from just south of dale city in the northbound direction but as you continue the northbound trip on 395 should find the travel lanes open getting in town via the case bridge. the earlier activity inbound is cleared so is the outbound activity, should find all lanes open there in both directions,

southeast southwest freeway, closure gw southbound bridge. state police helping a disabled vehicle and blocking the ramp entirely. 95 in maryland should find travel lanes open, starting to see things pick up just a little bit right around route 32 but you're getting from that point to the beltway 12 minutes which is right on time. outer loop of the beltway no building volume as of yet. should find all your lanes open between 95 and 270. i'm rob woodfork live from the wtop traffic center. let's go back to jummy and scott. >> thanks, rob. investors really hoping it's going to be a better week out there on wall street. >> that's right and more americans are losing their taste for light beer. here's "america's money" with diana perez. >> good morning, topping "america's money," all eyes are on wall street this monday as nervous investors return after the market posted its worst week since june. the dow dropped 1 1/2%. the younger generation is getting tired of light beer.

you to see that beautiful sunrise, oh, wow, what a gorgeous start. i love it. it's warm, almost hot dare i say by later on this afternoon. 74 to start our day here at 6:30. our weather headlines, we do have fog to the south and west of d.c. with an advisory in effect until 8:00 this morning if you live in culpeper, orange county, be aware of that. it's a warm start. we'll be pushing 90 by the afternoon but a big cooldown expected for the middle and latter part of the week. we've got to get through thunderstorms first. a slight risk they may be severe. we'll time that out in your seven-day forecast in a few minutes but from the belfort furniture weather center we need to go to wtop for the latest on your traffic headlines, here's rob woodfork. >> all right, the commute continues to build along 95 northbound near route 123, expect to be on the brakes south of dale city in the northbound direction leading up to the crash that is off to the right shoulder there near 123.

still some debris reported in the right lane there but state police are on scene aiding the cleanup efforts. once you get past that point should find the lanes open headed up from the springfield interchange, continuing northbound on 395 not too bad of a delay as of now headed toward the 14th street bridge. all the earlier incidents affecting the southeast southwest freeway should be clear so all the travel lanes are open just continue to watch out for the activity on the ramp from the gw parkway southbound getting on the key bridge. at last report it was blocked with what is described as a truck stopped with park police on the scene to help out so you may need to use a plan b option to get to the key bridge heading in forecast georgetown. 66, no reported incidents or accidents in the eastbound. building volume towards germantown. rob woodfork in the wtop traffic center. jummy and scott, back to you. >> thank you, rob. developing story out of southeast washington this morning after a fire in an apartment building sends at

least one person to the hospital. that fire broke out around 3:30 on anger place. brianne carter has the latest. >> firefighters were called here about 3:30 this morning to a report of an apartment fire and they tell us that one woman is in the hospital as a result of her injuries. that woman is said to be in her 20s and suffered burns as a result of this fire. now, authorities are on the scene for several hours. they say that the fire was contained to just one apartment but there is smoke damage in three other apartments. residents are soon going to be able to get back into some of another lower-level apartments. you know, that this started in a second-story apartment and the lower level apartments people will be able to get back in but they'll keep the residents out of the second story apartments near the one where the fire started. in terms of what started all of this fire officials tell us the cause remains under investigation. in southeast, brianne carter, abc7 news. >> all right, thank you, brianne. investigators in st. mary's county are now looking at a

woman's death from this weekend as a homicide. >> that's right. that's according to the autopsy results on 32-year-old moneta jo strickland whose body was found in mechanicsville. john gonzalez has the latest developments from our satellite center, john. >> a sad conclusion. the family of the california, maryland woman was holding out hope but this morning more unanswered questions as police now search for a killer. detectives in st. mary's county are not saying exactly how moneta strickland died but an autopsy confirmed this was an homicide. for days it was deemed a suspicious death which promised misunderstood maryland state police to get involved. the 32-year-old went missing on thursday and this past weekend members of a search team found her body near three notch trail in mechanicsville. her car parked at baguette park at laurel grove which is only about a mile or two away. it is a large park with ball fields and a play area for children. family members say she knew the area, often went running there on the trail, but can't believe someone would hurt her there.

strickland's mother said moneta had her whole life ahead of her. recently got engaged. police have questioned her fiancé. but right now they tell us still no motive or suspects. we understand the couple was planning to get married in march. it was her fiancé who found her car at the park and called police. canine units were able to track her scent. the family initially became suspicious when she didn't report to work last week. she was a nurse for med star at st. mary's hospital. this is a busy time of year for that park. police hoping someone saw something out of the ordinary. reporting live in the satellite center this morning, john gonzalez, abc7 news. >> ok, john, thank you. heading around the world now. more clashes expected today between egyptian security forces and ousted president mohamed morsi. after egypt interim government said they would shut them down within 24 hours. >> secretary of state john kerry makes his first trip to south america this week amid concerns by u.s. allies about nsa's

hotter, right? a little bit like summer today? >> a lot more. we should be pushing 90 degrees before the end of the day but we've got a few issues this morning. you kind of see the haze on that camera. we've got some fog, downright fog south and west of the metro. look at visibility across the area. of concern is orange, culpeper, down to a half a mile in petersberg, telecommunicationtown ok, and dulles, you could run into patchy fog in the low-lying areas and you have a advisory south and west of the metro until 8:00 this morning. temperaturewise it's feeling fine, though. 74 in d.c., 70 in gaithersburg and 70 degrees in fredericksburg. our express forecast for today, partly cloudy and 77 by 9:00, well into the 80s by the noon hour and an isolated thunderstorm will be possible late today and around 88 degrees at 5:00. thunderstorms tomorrow and a bit cooldown in your seven-day forecast. i'll have more details coming up in a few minutes. right now we need your traffic information.

how are things moving on the road, getting busy, rob? >> getting pretty busy on 95, jacqui, headed northbound, still working with the crash northbound near route 123. at last report it was off on the right shoulder with some debris in the right lane. it looks like they're close to clearing that because we're starting to see the delays ease, however, you're on the brakes starting from points south of dale city from the purple heart bridge. beyond that point should be around springfield interchange. 295 expected to see the building volume headed to the 11th street bridge but with no reported incidents in the roadway. right now looking good on route 50 headed in from annapolis and bowie should find travel lanes open. 95 in maryland also checking in without any major problems headed southbound on 29 in the bw parkway moving along incidents or accidents conditions there. i'm rob woodfork live from the wtop traffic center. jummy and scott, back to you. >> ok, thank you so much, rob. well, it looks like prince

are going to reopen the hill thorpe station. it's one of the busiest stations with 1300 riders a day. the governor will participate in a ribbon-cutting with his $32 million in upgrades. >> college students around the country head back to school this week and at howard university there's added focus on security after the shooting of a student back in july and a sexual assault of a campus visitor three weeks later. the school is counseling incoming freshmen on safety, posting guards at dorms and shuffle to off-campus apartments. >> d.c. police officer charged with sexually abusing three women on duty goes on trial. larry say is accused of approaching the women on the street and ordering them to follow him to a secluded spot. authorities say in each case he threatened the victim with arrest and then sexual assaulted her. he allegedly committed those attacks in 2006 and 2010. >> and we know one man is dead

this morning after being hit by a car on largo road in upper marlboro. county police in prince george's county said alcohol is not a factor. the victim's name, though, has not been released. >> around the nation now the trial of the alleged fort hood shooter resumes today after testimony from more than 40 witnesses. they described how major nidal hassan allegedly prepared and carried out a shooting massacre that left 13 people dead. hasan is representing himself. his stand by defense attorneys accuse him of seeking the death penalty they say they're asking an appeals court to step in and limit their responsibilities. >> and it could be assignment to run for president or simply may be a favor for a longtime senate colleague. either way vice president joe biden's decision to headline the annual steak fry inia is getting a lot of attention. the dinner is hosted by iowa senator tom harkin and typically

going down as a cool for daytime temperatures but we'll buck that trend later on today. take a look at this picture. this was sent in by dave johnson in loudoun county. he caught the sun dog on saturday, i caught it, too, in fairfax county when i was driving on 495. that's just a reflection of the sun and the ice crystals of the cloudiness crease a rainbow. did you catch the perseid meteor showers, unfortunately we had cloud cover last night, if you caught that, tweet it to me or send it to us on our facebook page. 74 degrees this morning. look at that, a little bit of haze but the sun is coming up and bringing nice color across the area. our dew point is at 69 so we do have a bit of moisture out there across the area. 70 degrees in gaithersburg, our temperature in martinsburg 66, 68 in winchester. patchy fog there. and we've had patchy fog, west of d.c. as well.

our satellite and radar picture here showing you we've got patchy cloud cover across the region. showers to the northeast. for the most part a dry day. a few thunderstorms possible late today. our stationary boundary staying park on top of us. warm and humid to the south of us. more moderate to the north of us. here's that real cool area in the upper midwest and the western great lakes and that will be swinging on through tomorrow and bringing us some unbelievable changes by the middle of the week. that's right, you heard me right, you can't wait for wednesday, i'm telling you, right now. taking a look at this afternoon. partly sunny skies, temperatures here into the upper 80s, pushing 90 degrees i think this afternoon. there may be a stray thunderstorm this afternoon or this evening but i think most of the action's going to come in by tomorrow morning. showers and thunderstorms will be widespread throughout the day for tomorrow and a few of them could reach severe limits and i'm primarily concerned about some wind damage especially south and east of the metro but look how quickly the cold front moves through. i think by late in the evening

it's going to clear our area and we're going to be dealing with much cooler conditions. in fact, temperatures in the 50s, you might see it in the morning on thursday morning. our forecast for today, partly cloudy, partly sunny today, patchy fog, isolated thunderstorm maybe, 86-91 degrees. for tonight we'll see a few showers and thunderstorms especially towards morning. 6-74 degrees. and a look at our seven-day forecast, there you can see widespread showers and thunderstorms on tuesday and then 70s wednesday, thursday, up to 81 on friday, make your outdoor plans now. things are looking really fantastic for the middle and latter part of the week. hopefully things are fantastic on the roadways but we've had a few problems this morning, rob, what's happening? >> seeing a slight improvement on 95 jacqui, we'll start there. near 123, accident activity on the right side. travel lanes should be open and delays are starting to thin out a little bit although picking up knew newington headed for the

springfield interchange. so, again, expect to see that normal congestion headed northbound. good news, that ramp from the gw southbound to the key bridge, that is now open, no major delays. another reminder they have that long-term work zone on the eastbound portion of the southeast southwest freeway. they had that along the left side. now you're getting by to the left in two lanes so expect to see that new asset create some additional slowdowns there headed eastbound on the freeway. traveling 66 should find the travel lanes open eastbound with building volume. we're building headed southbound on 270 with things tracking at 31 miles per hour getting past route 109. remember, you can get all of this information and more on wtop. you can turn that on your car on 103.5 fm wtop, travel on the 8's. rita kessler in there now giving you all you need to know about the morning drive. i'm rob woodfork live from the wtop traffic center, let's go back to jummy and scott. >> rob, thank you.

32-year-old moneta strickland died but an autopsy has confirmed she was killed. she went missing on thursday and this past weekend members of a search team found her body near three notch trail in mechanicsville. her car was parked about a mile away. family members say she knew the area, often went running there on the trail. she recently got engaged. police have questioned her fiancé. this morning police still searching for a suspect and a motive. bri. >> john, we're monitoring a developing story, medium have been evacuated from a villa in florida. a sinkhole causing the three-story villa at the resort to sink and partially collapse. authorities were called to the resort, 10 miles west of disney world late sunday. they found the building making noises, of popping sounds and windows were breaking. we'll continue to follow it. jacqui. >> any fog should be out of here by 9:00. partly cloudy and 77 degrees. noon hour, warm 86 and a stray
