>> a developing story in woodbridge, kplees are canvassing a neighborhood looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman in her own bedroom. david culver spoke to her about this frightening ordeal. >> speaking to the victim inside her woodbridge apartment, it was clear she hadn't slept much. the short time she dozed off she was haunted by the eyes of the man who sexually assaulted her. this is the face she remembers seeing inside her bedroom yesterday morning. we got this composite sketch. it was with her roommate's towel, she describes the man as tall, 6'5" and shared her story from her home and asked not to use her name or show her face. she was sobbing throughout the conversation. around 9:00 the man got into her ground floor apartment through this bedroom window. she woke up to him staring at

her. >> asking a lot of questions, what do you need? what do you want? who are you? >> he groped her but something scared him off. he ran out her front door. the only way she shared her story with me is because she wants this guy caught. she says she will never be the same after what she experienced yesterday morning. meantime i did catch up with other neighbors and they say this is not the first suspicious instance in the past few weeks. we'll get into that and tell us what police are doing to track this guy down. >> the woman believed to have vandalized several washington landmarks has been admitted to a hospital psychiatric. she is wearing an ankle monitor at the scheduled preliminary hearing today, she told the judge she wasn't there because she's been admitted to a psychiatric facility. she is accused of splashing green paint on two chapels at

the national cathedral and doing the same at the lincoln memorial and other sites. >> a canadian truck driver is charged with negligence after a serious accident on the chesapeake bay bridge. it's another case of distracted driver. the impact sent the car over the barrier wall and into the water. according to the collision reconstruction report, the driver of the tractor-trailer was looking at his rearview mirror because someone was flashing lights behind him. he was going 50 miles per hour at the time and did not notice the traffic stopped ahead. he hit two cars. >> as this occurred, the chrysler traveled forward and into the right wall striking the mazda on the right rear corner. this forward momentum forced it up and onto the jersey wall. >> fell 27 feet into the water below, fortunately the driver, morgan lake, was able to free herself and swim to safety.

>> the area's last and largest school district starts class on tuesday. fairfax county students will have to get used to a new drink menu at school. starting next week, soda sales will be banned. megan mcgrath has reaction to the healthier options. >> reporter: like many teens, nikki stephanic likes to drink soda. >> fanta, mountain dew, sugary and calories. >> reporter: some of her favorites will no longer be available in school vend are machines. a new pilot program is replacing traditional machines with newer ones that sell only healthy options like tea and juice and sugar free sodas. >> that makes me sad, very, very sad. i mean, soda is like, i love it. i do. >> reporter: the switch is not countywide, just in seven of fairfax county's 25 high

schools. the pilot program will last the entire school year. currently soda sales are allowed only after the end of the school day and that will be true for the new machines as well. drink options will include diet sodas and unsweetened teas and coconut water to name a few. >> nothing in the coolers now has calories except for the v-8 waters down on the bottom and they are low calorie. >> they have vitamins. >> they do. >> reporter: some say the new machines are a good idea. >> it's a good idea for kids that play sports because she should be drinking more water to stay hydrated instead of sugary stuff. >> as a mom, what do you think of the idea they won't have access? >> i think it's a great idea. they don't need it. water and iced tea and it's fine for them. >> reporter: at this point the school system is just testing out the idea. the pilot program will last one

maryland state police seized hundreds of counterfeit apple products inside an anne arundel county mall. tonight police are warning consumers investigators tell us they busted two kiosks following a seven-month investigation. they confiscated fake apple products including i phones and phony apple accessories that$89.

police believe other counterfeit items may still be out there. the arundel mills mall said it does not condone the sale of counterfeitings and expects retailers to provide quality merchandise. liz crenshaw will have more on the story right here at 5:00 tonight. three teens are in a prince georges county jail accused of robbing a boy for his sneakers. they held a 14-year-old while they assaulted him and took his jordans off his feet. the teens put him in a choke hold in temp hills and took his brand-new shoes. officers searcheded home of a 17-year-old suspect and found the shoes with two guns. two other teens admitted to the hold up. we have late breaking news, the nfl just inked a $765 million deal with thousands of former players overhead injuries. fast food workers strike in

jucht into the news 4 live desk, a new irs rule that will impact families across the country. >> the treasury department has announced that legally married same sex couples will receive the same tax benefits as other married couples, as long as they are married in a jurisdiction that recognizes same sex unions. that means couples can file joint tax returns together no matter where any live. the ruling affects state filing, iras and child tax credits and does not apply to anyone in a registered domestic partnership or civil union. the district of columbia and maryland and 12 other states have legalized same-sex marriage. i'm jackie bensen. >> the dinner rush may be slower

at fast food restaurants in cities around the country. >> thousands are staging a walkout to push for beefier paychecks. >> reporter: on the eve of labor day weekend, fast food workers in 58 cities worked off the job saying they can't afford the labor anymore for a minimum wage that hasn't changed in six years. >> i mean, everything has gone up but my pay. my rent has gone up, groceries gone up. >> the stereo type of a fast food worker has changed. it's now on average a young woman over the age of 28 with a child. >> reporter: making on average about $9 an hour, although many work for much less. >> these workers overwhelmingly make $7.25 which leaves them deeply seated in poverty. >> reporter: they want a living wage of $15 an hour. >> workers are telling the nation, low wage service work is breaking a basic promise in

and most especially some thunderstorms. the thunderstorms will start firing on saturday by around 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. that line will take its time moving east. we could be looking at pretty soggy conditions by 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. saturday night. we've got more storms to talk about also on sunday and monday of the upcoming weekend. beach forecast water temperatures cold off to 74 from where we were yesterday. the beach, 82 for saturday, 85 or sunday and 88 for monday. the temperatures will be going up. we'll see more warmth but the chance of thunderstorms will be increasing over the weekend. so sunday our threat is about 50%, by monday, about 60% chance of showers and storms. you'll want to keep a watchful eye on the sky if you're going to be out this weekend, folks. there will be lots of dry intervals this weekend. right here, 90 degrees for a high on saturday. as we look at your storm team forecast, 89 for sunday. as we look toward early part of

next week, we'll be cooling off. but it's the storms that we want to focus on. they will hit late afternoon saturday. not going to be a washout but some storms could be heavy. they could bring heavy rain and you'll want to watch for lightning too. as far as the other part of the weekend, sunday and monday, higher threat for seeing storms. not going to be raining all day but the fact we've got the storms around the area, want to make sure you stay informed. in a couple of minutes, your pollen forecast. a lot of folks sneezing and coughing but for different rbz than the last couple of days. the national football league and thousands of former players are ready to settle concussion related lawsuits. $765 million. that word from a federal judge. the lawsuits from at least ten members of the profootball hall of fame, accused of hiding known risks of concussions. the nfl denies that.

good afternoon, welcome back, i'm eun yang. >> the news is coming on a barricade in northern virginia. jackie bensen is at a live desk with more. >> this is unfolding right now. we understand fairfax county police are on the scene at the home on pebblebrook court after reports that a gunshot was fired inside that home earlier this afternoon about 2:30. police were already on the scene for a domestic dispute when they heard that shot. investigators say that the person in the house wouldn't let them in and wouldn't let them leave. now that person is refusing to come out. we're told this began when officers responded to that home on pebl brook court about 2:30 this afternoon for a domestic dispute. but the shot fired was not fired until about an hour later. police are not saying at this time if anyone has been hurt.

for an alleged sexual assault. a female mid shipman testified on her social history and why she didn't come forward at first. she said she feared for her life, that one of them would try to harm her. the three mids accused say they did have sex with her but say it was consensual. news 4's pat collins will have more at 5:00. a rape case has a judge in billings in trouble. he's sorry but has no plans to resign. he's facing criticism for comments he made about a 14-year-old rape victim and the sentence he gave her attacker. during the sentencing hearing, the judge said the girl had just as much control of the situation as the teacher who raped her. he then sentenced the man to 30 days in jail. the judge said he stands by that sentence but admits his comments were demeaning. >> i'm not sure just what i was attempting to say at that point but it didn't come out correct. what i said was demeaning to all women,hat i believe in,

we understand a reverse 911 call has been given to neighbors on pebblebrook court to stay inside, not come outside after reports of a gunshot fired in the home. chopper 4 is there. these are not live pictures. we don't want to give away the location of officers at the scene. we're told police were already on scene 2:30 this afternoon for a domestic dispute when they heard a shot. investigators say a man in the house would not let them in and refused to leave. again, we are not showing live pictures of the scene so we don't give away the location of the police. the police are not saying at this point if anyone is hurt. again, we have crews on the ground headed to the scene. as soon as we get more information, we'll bring it to you after reports of shots fired inside a home where fairfax county police responded earlier this afternoon for a report of a domestic dispute. police will not tell us at this point who fired the shots. theyjaie, thank you.

>> fire crews in california say a wildfire burning in yosemite national park is finally showing signs of slowing down. cooler temperatures and lighter winds helped firefighters control the rim fire. containment about 30%. it burned more than 300 square miles. fire officials say they should have the flames under control within about two weeks. a huge arizona wildfire killed 19 members of an elite team. we have 911 calls made by yarnell residents on that tragic day. >> here's more on the recordings that include a plea for help and moment of compassion. >> reporter: homeowners are getting nervous. >> i'm trying to find out when the retardant planes are, there's no air s depends on thas on what the weather is like above the fire. >> reporter: planes and

it is unsettling and can happen to anyone. people secretly spying on you through your computer's web cam. the newly crowned miss teen usa says it happened to her. jeff rossen explains how you can protect yourself. >> the new miss teen usa 2013. >> reporter: it was an amazing public moment for cassidy wolf, crowned miss teen usa. >> congratulations. >> reporter: but it was in her private moments at home where she says she was violated. a stranger hacked into her computer web cam and without her even knowing it, took intimate photos of her. >> you would never think somebody would be watching in your room and this guy had been.

the thought of that just was -- it gave me nightmares. >>eporter: how did you find out? >> i received an none mus e-mail who was extorting and blackmailing me. i saw he had attached nude ph o photos he had taken in my bedroom. >> reporter: the fbi is investigating and now you're about to see how easy it is for crooks to do it. we asked security expert jim stickily to set up an experiment, spy on this new jersey family, from these teen girls in their bedroom to the entire family at the dinner table. little do they know hows of miles away our expert broke into her laptops and turned on web cams. >> the people who are victims have no idea they are victims. >> don'te have the dad's permission, but no one else in the family knew. our expert got in by sending them this innocent looking e

card with a virus. >> they clicked on a link in the card and as far as they are concerned they see quacking ducks but i loaded a trojan on their computer. >> reporter: giving him full access, even when it's in sleep mode. you would have no clue. >> have a seat. we told corinne, the mom and her daughters we came over to do a general story about online security. >> ever any problems here, anyone hack into your system at home? >> i don't think so. >> reporter: remember, they have no idea days before we had been spying on them through the web cam. we told the girlses to go upstairs and wait in their room. then downstairs, we let mom in on the secret. >> we actually recorded your family dinner the other night, no one was in the house except for you. >> it's creepy, my children are on the computers in the evening in their bedrooms and i'm frightened for their security.

in fairfax county. a dramatic situation in the springfield area. >> police broke the door down of a house after being called to pebblebrook court. julie carey is being kept from the scene but joins us live on the phone. what are you hearing? >> we are down the road away from the scene in the 7900 block. the s.w.a.t. team activity intensifying greatly in the last several minutes. this dra the maic scene unfolding a few minutes ago as a s.w.a.t. vehicle, tank like vehicle pulled up to the townhouse and smashed in the front. s.w.a.t. team members armed with weapons went inside. we have not heard, however, what the outcome of that situation is. here's what we do know. an ambulance is also on the scene. this started about 2:40 this afternoon when fairfax county police responded to a domestic

call. then about some 15 minutes later a shot was fired. a spokesperson does not know whether the shot was fired outside or inside or whether anyone was hit. the man inside the town house went in side and holed up and refused to come out. that let to the standoff and barricade situation that seems to begin to be winding down as the s.w.a.t. team decided to approach the town house. you might have noticed a mattress in the yard. we're not sure how those got there. they are pushed aside to make way for the ambulance and we'll be awaiting word to find out what happens when police entered the townhouse. for residents, those close to the town house received reverse 911 calls telling them to stay in their home. many residents are gathered outside watching this situation as it develops. >> very tense afternoon.

we'll check back with you a bit later. now to the other big story tonight, a local woman awakened and assaulted by an intruder. >> when he come in this way, i follow him and stop there and i'm back for my phone and call the police. >> she's sharing her nightmare with news 4 today as police begin an allout search for the attackers. right now officers are going door to door looking for the man who sexually assaulted the woman in her bone bedroom. that attack happened in riverbend road in woodbridge. david culver spoke with the victim today and joins us live from her neighborhood. >> reporter: jim, physically the victim is not hurt but after speaking with her for 20 minutes, emotionally there are deep scars
