desk, angie goff, news 4. today a woman who survived the shooting will arrive at dulles this afternoon. she remembers seeing the gunmen enter the mall on saturday as she was eating lunch. the attackers began with assault weapons. we spoke to malakia via skype. >> you could hear while we were back there methodically going from store to store, asking questions, shooting, screams, then they would stop for a while, then they would go to another store. american security forces and the kenyan army rescued her after four hours. the 40-year-old woman moved from north carolina to anyfor work. today president obama will travel to new york city to address the united nation's general assembly. it is his fifth appearance. this time he is supposed to

place more emphasis on bashar al assad to resign. the white house is also considering using the meeting to take a huge step in american relations with iran. the administration is weighing the risks and rewards of a possible encounter between president obama and new iranian president a san rou hanni. nothing is planned but even a handshake would mark the first meeting between the two leaders in 30 years. john kerry is slated to meet with his iranian counter park. rouhani has signaled agreement to meet. we have new poll numbers in the race for governor.

new this morning. we now know what may have caused this deadly garage collapse in bethesda. according to the washington post, a faulty jack or scaffolding may have caused a 43,000 pound slab to collapse. one construction worker died, another was seriously hurt. county workers still have to decide whether to cite the worker for possible violations of its construction permits. changes are coming to a popular roundabout in loudon county. the interception of route 50 and route 15 known as gilbert corner, it's been a hot bed for speeding and car crashes. over the next couple of months that four-year-old roundabout

i'm angie goff at the live desk. reaction from korea a day after reports that north korea is mastering the art of making nuclear arms. the south core reason min n-- k government said there is no proof that they know how to build nuclear weapons. the u.n. has called on the north not to start a reactor. also, new response this morning from china. officials posted online a list of items that they won't export to its ally. it includes materials in the nuclear and chemical fields. that's the latest from the live

desk. aaron, over to you. 15 minutes before the hour. there is reason to be optimistic that we could avoid a shutdown. they say they will not vote to block legislation that will prevent a shutdown. the house passed the bill last week. texas senator ted cruz has said he's prepared to filibuster even if it means a government shutdown. president obama will defend his health care law today. he'll highlight some of the law's benefits alongside former president bill clinton. the white house says he'll speak about the issue again thursday at a community college in maryland. today maryland's attorney general will enter the fray to become the next state governor. doug gensler will enter his bid in rockville. it will take him to 16 different towns. gensler gave a preview of his

message last thursday when he released this on youtube. the race already includes anthony brown and heather mazier. today a panel will decide where medical marijuana will be available. it's holding its first meeting today. the commission has the authority to let research centers design these programs. a former fbi bomb technician pleaded guilty to leaking classified information to the associated president. donald sacklebin has pleaded guilty. if approved, his plea agreement would put him behind bars for nearly 12 years. that sentence includes time for another crime he's 34r50eding guilty to, possession of child pornography. a shooting injured 13 people and a 3-year-old boy in chicago.

neither man is believed to be the actual shooter but both played significant rolls in the shooting. it happened thursday night on a basketball court in a park. each man is facing three counts of attempted murder. news 4 exclusive, a set of metro keys was stolen from an arlington fire engine on call. engine 105 was unlocked and briefly unattended last wednesday. two men stole a forcible entry tool and a set of metro keys. metro tells news 4 appropriate steps have taken to ensure system security is not compromis compromised. measures have been taken to prevent a similar theft in the future. 11 before the hour. former linebacker ray lewis is speaking about ravens kick returner, jacoby jones.

he was in a fight on sunday night. it happened on a party bus in front of opera ultra louns. tmz first reported the story and took some pictures there as well. jones told police he couldn't remember who did it. he refused treatment. no charges were filed. lewis said the incident shows a lack of leadership on the ravens team. mark trains are running again after a train hit a man last evening. mark canceled train service in the area during the investigation. the relief won't stop. that's what vice president joe biden promised residents of a flood ravaged colorado. he assured them even if the government shuts down, the relief efforts won't. the flooding destroyed nearly 2,000 square miles including homes, roads, bridges. during his trip another person

was found dead as well bringing the death toll to eight now. six people are still unaccounted for from that flooding. in the meantime, farther west firefighters in southern california hoping to head off a fast-moving brush fire. this started near the san gabriel canyon. it quickly torched more than 40 acres. investigators are not sure what caused that fire and they say the fire is still too uncontrolled to start an investigation. what would you do if you just won $400 million. the newest powerball winner said he danced around the keitchen with the dog. the new winner from columbia, south carolina, claimed his prize. he told lottery officials he stopped by for gas and hot dog buns last week. didn't have buns so he bought $20 worth of lottery tickets. i would have gone home with buns, no tickets. >> you've got to be the type of

nearby suburbs as well as montgomery, alexandria, arlington, fairfax county, false church. the district is generally around 50 degrees. shenandoah, southern mountains, northern neck, they're in the mid to upper 40s. a steep climb will rapidly warm up into the 60s by noon. low to mid 70s by this afternoon. a lot of my twitter followers have been posting is summer over? are we done with our 90s? chuck and i were talking about this. are we done with our 90s, do you think? >> i honestly believe we are. our last 90 degree day was a couple of weeks ago on september the 12th. this is just about the time of year we start to expect our final 90s. last year our final 90 degree day came on september the 8th when we were at 91 degrees.

one of d.c.'s most popular and modern attractions could soon be moving to an historic building. the spy museum on 9th and f streets is considering making the carnegie library home. it's going to transform the building across from the washington convention center for its collection. that would take the pressure off the historical society. starting today, burger king is offering a lower calorie french fry. the chain says the new crinkle cut french fries are 270 calories. that's a 20% cut from the regular fries. the so called satis fries. >> sorry. >> they're cooked with new
