this happened after midnight on 100th avenue in glendale in prince george's county. news 4's megan mcgrath has been on the scene all morning long and joins us with more. megan, good morning to you. >> reporter: the investigation here on the scene has wrapped up, but police are still looking for the two suspects, the two men who were seen running away after this home invasion and shooting. it began to unfold after mid nate. two men, according to police, made their way into the house on 100th avenue here in glendale. inside the home were two residents, a man and a woman. there was some kind of an altercation, shots were fired, and the male resident was struck in the torso. we're told that he was transported to an area hospital where he's listed in critical condition. now it's unclear whether the two suspects took anything from the home but right after all of this happened witnesses saw them making their escape on foot and they're still at-large. reporting live, megan mcgrath, news 4. eun, back to you. to the live desk now, melissa mollet has breaking

news. the death toll has now risen to 400. of course that's 7.7 magnitude quake hit on tuesday. rescue teams still trying to reach victims. road conditions hampering the efforts. survivors in need of food, water, and medical supplies. new this morning the u.s. ambassador to the united nations is praising a resolution that forces syria to get rid of its chemical weapons. the u.n. security council could vote as early as today on that measure. the resolution would require syria to let inspectors have full access to its chemical weapons stockpile. it does not threaten any military action if the country doesn't comply. the u.s. says this is still a major break through in efforts o end syria's civil war. this is the first time since the syria conflict began two and a half years ago that the security council has imposed binding obligations on syria. binding obligations of any kind. >> the five permanent members of the u.n. security council

of somalia. new this morning, a united airlines flight on its way to seattle after making an emergency medical landing in boise, idaho. flight 1603 was on its way to seattle from houston when a crew member suffered a heart attack. that crew member was taken to the hospital shortly after landing. his or her name and condition is not the known at this time. the story of luck out of texas as a gunman tried to shoot up a restaurant filled with people but he couldn't because his weapon malfunctioned. take a look at the security footage. the man stormed into the front of the restaurant with the gun in the air. you can see that here. he points it if he first person. pulls the trigger. nothing happened. he tried the same thing again, the same problem. he tries to shoot someone for a third time. still can't get that gun to fire. >> he clears his weapon, drops the magazine. it doesn't work again. that's when he leaves outside the restaurant. so he went into the parking lot there, got the gun to fire. he went back inside only to have

the same malfunction every time he pointed it at a person. police said they were thankful for the malfunctioning gun. it allowed them enough time to get to the restaurant and arrest that guy on the spot. >> we should hear from iran's new president, hassan rowhani will hold a news conference in new york. ir iranian diplomats meet with the nuclear watchdog. the they've met several times but this will be the first meeting since rowhani became iran's president. yesterday secretary of state john kerry met with iran's foreign minister. those were the highest level discussionses between t between years. they will hold more meetings in new york, including diplomats from brazil, south korea. they will hold a meeting to discuss syria at the u.n. the head of the nsa is downplaying reports many of the agency's employees have been abusing their authority. still, its inspector general says nsa employees eavesdropped on family and friends a dozen times over the past decade.

it is not a bird or a plane. it is a meteor. this was taken from a royal mounted police dash camera in alberta, canada. the officer said that he, quote, freaked out when he saw the meteor. sounds about right. the we're talking about flying objects, you might see a bl blimp hovering over the area the next couple of weeks operated by the navy and it will be testing mapping equipment in many of the areas in our region that have restri restricted airspace. it will be over government sites for about two weeks and then it will head into virginia. well, if you're trying to fly away for the holidays, now is the time to book, but you might want to brace yourself if you're planning to fly. all those frequent flier points might not be as helpful as you want them to be. experts say when it's all said and doon, those acquired miles might not make much of a difference. >> once you add up all the fees, sometimes you might as well buy the ticket outright. >> according to experts the airlines with the fewest fees are southwest and jetblue. if you don't want to fly either

classmates hit them in a parking lot near the school. yesterday afternoon we showed you the dramatic scene outside northwestern high school in prince george's county. eight junior rotc students were practicing formation when the car plowed into them. the driver of the car was a 19-year-old classmate. the driver stayed on the scene and was charged with negligent driving and driving without required supervision. he doesn't have his license is yet, just a learner's permit. this morning a prince george's county mother is demanding answers after she says her son was lost for an hour after school. >> shannon muller's 5-year-old son attends class at mt. rainier elementary school. she says a substitute teacher put marcus on a school bus to go home instead of his daycare van on tuesday. >> marcus was dropped off on a busy corner of 34th street and rhode island avenue. he wandered for a while until he knocked on a stranger's door asking for help to call his dad. >> and just to get a call that, you know, it was an emergency because they can't find my

5-year-old son. >> she says the l school sent home withdrawal papers for marcus and his brother. she says the school always knew the children were not technically in the right school zone but that wasn't a problem until now. we contacted prince george's county public schools. we're told they're looking into the situation. 6:35 now. d.c. fire chief kenneth ellerbe will not face charges after being accused of attack iing a firefighter. prosecutors say they don't have enough evidence to charge him with anything. a firefighter said he grabbed a phone from his hand and hurt him at the scene of a burning ambulance last month. he says he simply asked for the phone and got it voluntarily. terry mcauliffe picked up a key endorsement in the race for governor of virginia. they are backing the democratic candidate. mcauliffe's support for mcdonnell's funding bill played a major role in the decision. the chamber of commerce commended mcauliffe for vowing to veto any attempt to end

virginia's right-to-work laws. >> march 23, 2010, obama care is signed into law. minutes later, attorney general ken cuccinelli filed suit in federal court to stop it. >> you may see this commercial on tv in the coming days. ken cuccinelli's campaign just launched the ad which criticizes terry mcauliffe for supporting the affordable care act. cuccinelli has been one of the most vocal critics of the health care law but this is one of his first commercials to focus on the issue. today a big donation that promises to make america's front yard a little greener. john deere is donating $400,000 worth of lawn care equipment to the national park service including things like mowers that run on alternative fuel and used to help restore and maintain the national mall. the company will officially hand over the equipment this morning during a ceremony on the mall. new turf will be planted next year. a consumer alert for toyota drivers now. the car company is recalling more than 600,000 of its most popular minivans.

training academy in southwest. the ceremony will honor more than 30 from the fire and ems department who were among the first medical responders to the september 16 hootings. the gunman be and 12 others were killed. 8 to 14 were injured. the firehouses in the immediate area were the first to respond along with federal fire and ems units from the naval district of washington. of course in the aftermath there has been word or talk, at least, of investigations looking into allegations some of the communications didn't work and some of the firehouses may have been understaffed. that is for folks who do that sort of thing to sort out later today is about honoring those who responded regardless of any adversity they had to deal with. live from the navy yard, derrick ward, news 4. back to you.

the navy will update us on how they're helping employees and families cope with the shooting. william frieench will hold a roundtable with reporters this morning and give a tour of the emergency family assistance center at the navy yard. he will help us understand what kind of care and services they're providing. employees have visited the center more than 4,700 since the shooting. family and friends will attend the funeral for a prince william county high school student, kenny diaz. 12 people are now under arrest in connection with his murder. police charged four of diaz's friends with attempted robbery. investigators say he and his friends tried to rob 19 ye-yeard diandra samuels as pay back for her robbing one of their friends and was connected to drug deals. police believe samuels stabbed diaz to death in a public park on saturday. the u.n. security council could vote as early as today on a resolution forcing syria to get rid of its chemical weapons.
