around for insurance under the affordable health care act. coming up on "meet the press," senator ted cruz sits down exclusively with david gregory. he made headlines last week for his epic 21-hour filibuster-like speech against president obama's signature health care law. you can watch that interview right here starting at 10:30 this morning. new this morning, all lanes are traffic open again after a deadly accident in fairfax. head-on collision occurred near braddock road, southbound lanes closed off for a few hours while crews helped victims and cleaned up the scene. one person died. the condition of the others isn't known. plus in glen burnie are looking for a woman who robbed a bank early yesterday morning. a woman walked into the bank, passed a note to the teller and demanded money. the teller handed over the money and she fled the scene.

reverend jesse jackson is in cuba today, trying to meet with an imprisoned montgomery county man, helping to broker a deal for alan gross' release, serving a 15-year sentence for spying, a crime he says he did not commit. he maintains he was nearly installing the internet for the jewish community on the island. jackson will also travel down to colombia, to try to negotiate the release of a soldier captured by a guerrilla group there. this year's gun show hosted at the dulles expo center has seen a surge of people, especially from maryland. on tuesday maryland's new laws will ban 45 different kinds of assault rifles, 20-round magazines and enforce fingerprinting when trying to buy a gun. this show will be open from 10:00 this morning until 5:00 tonight.

this morning, firefighters are saying an electrical issue sparked this big blaze that left hundreds of people homeless. it happened right across the river from manhattan in new jersey. you can tell by our video here that the fire lasted much of the afternoon yesterday and actually carried on into the evening and into the night. dozens of families lived in the five-story complex. now one firefighter broke his ribs during the rescue, but other than that, no one else was hurt. also this morning, another fire has displaced dozens of senior citizens. take a look at this. smoke, it engulfed the first floor of a retirement home late last night. this is out in phoenix, arizona. no one was seriously hurt. more than 40 seniors who live there, they were forced out. red cross is helping them right now. firefighters say they were able to put the fire out quickly. at this point this morning, they don't know how it all started.

shops. helping those impacted by the dual earthquake to hit pakistan in the last week, pakistani charities are handing out food, water and other supplies to people in need. four truckloads of supplies have made their way to the area with more on the way. authorities believe more than 300 people were killed in the quakes combined. secret surveillance program. "the new york times" reports the nsa is using information obtained from cell phone and e-mail data to map out a person's social connections, identifying the person's associates, locations, travel companions and other personal information. the times says the practice has been going on for three years. the paper cited documents provided by nsa leaker edward snowden. investigating the deaths of 19 firefighters have released their findings. it's been three months since the hot shots were killed in a wildfire out west.

>> reporter: the single deadliest wildfire for firefighters in 80 years claimed 19 members of the granite hot shot team in june. saturday officials released the findings of their three-month investigation. the report is the first account of the hot shot squad's movements and communications. from where they built fire breaks by hand to their last known lunch break site. the lookout and lone survivor notices the fire intensifying, turning toward the city of yarne will. will. >> calls the superintendent and says the fire has hit his trigger point and is moving back. >> reporter: the hot shot squad radios in. >> i want to pass on that we're going to make our way to our escape route. >> reporter: 30-minute hike toward safety that led them face to face with an inferno. >> the wind shifted again, increased in velocity and brought the fire up the canyon. >> reporter: left unanswered, why they left the presumed safety of a burn zone where they

holding an interfaith service for everyone who wants to take a moment to remember the victims of the navy yard shooting. tomorrow will mark two weeks since that fateful day. 12 people left for work for the naval sea systems command that morning and never returned home. now the victims' families can all say they have a place where they can visit their loved ones. last two victims were laid to rest yesterday. security guard mike ridgell was buried. aaron alexis shot him, then took his gun. his family has set up a memorial fund in his honor. sylvia frasier was laid to rest, was 53. her family said the navy had always been part of her life. she worked at the navy yard for 13 years. >> josh morgan says he faced a scare two weeks ago. his mother was working in the navy yard when gunman aaron

fire investigators will spend part of their day determining what caused a home in chevy chase to go up in flames. neighbors on connecticut avenue said they could see thick, black smoke coming out of the third floor. the family was able to escape safely and the fire was contained to just one house in the area. all metro lines running today. plan ahead for delays. crews are doing track work on the blue and orange lines, trains running every 16 minutes. the work happening between the mcpherson square, fixing tunnel leaks and ceiling tiles. next weekend metro will close five stations on the red line. we love reaching out into the community. we had plenty of support at our nbc 4 all-state community shred. take a look at this. some of our pictures from the event yesterday of prince george's community college, an amazing 2,500 people showed up.
