there's fox. scores the touchdown on the i.n.t. and it's a ten-point game. >> mike: i think with grace out with an injury earlier i thought fox and calabrese did a heck of a job. read the eyes. drive on the football. tom, you could have caught that. you may not have done that but you could have caught it. this was against a dynamic offense. that was the best of the season. they limit the offense and force three turnovers. one fumble and two interceptions.

a huge group of federal workers going back to work. details after the game. news 4 at 11:00 starts now. now at 11:00, hundreds of thousands of federal workers headed back to work on monday, but for most the shutdown drags on. >> please put your country before your party. >> tonight there is one thing congress can agree on. plus the first weekend of the shutdown on the national mall. monuments and museums empty, tourists forced to stand outside the barriers. and president obama makes a splash in a sitdown interview. what would he do about the redskins name if he owned the team? good evening. i'm chris gordon. a big relief tonight for some federal workers. the pentagon is calling back 300,000 civilian employees. the government shutdown goes on,

but they will return to work next week with full pay. defense department officials say the civilian employees should be exempt from the furlough because they support military personnel. meanwhile, the house voted unanimously today to give back pay to the more than 800,000 federal workers who have been furl ode during the shutdown. it's the only agreement lawmakers have been able to reach. tonight they're literally divided on a spending bill. >> if the speaker and the republicans would just take yes for an answer. >> what we're looking at here again is an administration, a president, that seems to be unwilling to sit down and talk with us. >> no progress is expected this weekend. the senate has adjourned until monday. tonight we are really seeing the impact of the shutdown on tourism here in washington. crowds on the national mall much smaller than you would expect for a beautiful saturday night. news 4's darcy spencer is live on the mall where barriers are

keeping people out tonight. darcy? >> reporter: well, chris, i'm here on the national mall. quite often on the weekends i can tell you from personal experience that the crowds were definitely a lot smaller than what you would expect, especially on a weekend in october when the temperatures reach into the 80-degree mark. and i can tell you also that people who did come out here, they had to look ot our national treasures from a distance. >> i don't know why they shut down all this. >> reporter: he's just 9 years old, but he knows something's wrong when he and his family come to see the monuments and they're closed off by barriers. >> i heard that some people weren't able to go to school because of this? so sometimes i say dangerous. so they won't get their education. >> reporter: this capital heights family along with everyone else has to stay behind the gates to see the world war ii and lincoln memorials, national treasures closed off because of the government shutdown. >> it makes me sad.

i'm very disappointment about the government shutdown. and my heart goes out to all the people that are not working right now and not going to get paid. and i think that that's ridiculous. >> reporter: d.c. is losing millions every day the shutdown continues. crowds are noticeably smaller. the smithsonian museums are closed. tourism is taking a hit. >> since all the museums were closed, i was kind of thinking there would be a lot more people walking around, a better photo opportunity. i'm actually surprised, it's kind of empty around here. >> reporter: on a beautiful saturday night like tonight typically it would be hard to get a pedicab, we had no problem. business is way down because of the shutdown. guides are still giving tours but only at a distance. tourists on segues and on bikes taking in the sights. the deserted memorials are providing a calm and quiet setting that many hope won't last much longer. you're hoping next time you come out here, everything will be open? >> i hope it's open, tomorrow,
