winds have already turned around to the northwest and colder air already started to move back into the region and there's a second shot of cold air coming our way for later this evening into tonight and tomorrow. currently out the door temperatures. generally in the upper 30s in northern maryland. low to mid 40s in and around town. that's only half the story. the winds are already gusting 15 to 25 miles per hour. there's already a bit of a wind chill. nothing left on storm team 4 radar. your out the door weather, temperatures generally in the 40s. it will be breezy. temperatures for highs today, 50 degrees. maryland hosting boston college, temperature 49 degrees at kick off back down to near 40 degrees by the end of the game. if you want to see your game on tv send me a note or tweet it to me at chuck bell 4. we'll see the rest of the timing of the cool down coming up. chuck, thanks. happening today you can find more about a project to improve the virginia avenue tunnel in southeast d.c. some neighbors are concerned

about trains carrying hazardous materials through the area while construction is going on. right now cxs trains run on the tracks between virginia avenue between 2nd and 11th street. congresswoman eleanor holmes norton is holding a meeting at 2:00 happening at the senior center on 5th street southeast. >> today democrats in virginia will decide who can replace mark herring. he is still in a race for attorney general. jennifer and sheila olem declaring victory in the case although a recount is possible. he leads by 164 votes. the state board of elections certifies the results on monday. >> we just got new video in showing the scene of a deadly accident in prince george's county. a man was run over by several cars including a marked police cruiser driven by an off duty

officer. word went out about the accident near pine brook avenue around 9:00 last night. right now police are looking for the person that initially struck and killed the man. the off duty officer involved stayed on the scene. >> d.c. police need your help to find three men that could be very dangerous. this is video of the group they're looking for. you can see two of them there. police say they may have been involved in an assault with a gun downtown near g street wednesday. they're calling the men persons of interest. montgomery county police need your help solving a cold case. they're rereleasing this sketch hoping new people will come forward with leads. he is behind a series of sex assaults back in 1970. if you have any information callmont county police. today family and friends say a final good-bye to a woman killed outside of a d.c. strip club. candice reid was

week. the service will happen at the greater morning star church in largo. the washington post reports reid's family wants to bury her in ohio but they don't have the money to move her body. they set up a fund for donations at bank of america. police arrested michael coleman in the case. he's charged with her murder. we're learning more about the accident that killed the woman before her 41st wedding anniversary. she just recovered from a six month battle with cancer when she went on a short walk and never came back. >> she's the most giving person ever. >> bill oakley breaks down in tears wishing his best friend sally ann was alive to celebrate their wedding anniversary thanksgiving week. >> 41 years. >> 41. >> monday. >> the 59-year-old mother of two was killed while crossing at

montgomery avenue last weekend in woodbridge, virginia. suddenly 24-year-old amanda styles mays crashed into her near this memorial at the intersection. >> one of her favorite things to do was to walk over across that street to the gas station. sally an outlasted a battle with cancer and recently survived a motorcycle crash. they belong to the rolling thunder motorcycle club and paid tribute to veterans on memorial day. >> six months ago we were in a motorcycle accident and she's been laid up for six months. >> last weekend was the first time she was able to walkout side. she just finished buying her paper and coffee sunday morning. she was walking across the street in the crosswalk. she had the right of way. >> it wasn't fair. >> she was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and reckless driving. >> this was a christmas gift. it's a red skiplaque.

50 years ago the shock of john f. kennedy's death was just

beginning to set in. this day in 1963 was the first full day of mourning after the assassination in dallas. grief stricken americans prayed and watched news coverage from their home. meantime, accused gunman lee harvey oswald was locked up inside a dallas police station. he was shot and killed just a day later. today thousands will honor kennedy 50 years later by running 50 miles. the jfk 50 mile run gets started in less than an hour just outside of frederick. that event was held for the first time months before kennedy's death and was later renamed in his honor. it was one of the many events he helped to launch as a fitness initiative. new traffic cameras will take in more dangerous driving habits in the district. d.c. is installing 131 new ones of these, traffic cameras. they'll target drivers that block the intersection.

those of you that don't give pedestrians the right of way will also be targeted. they also catch speeders and those driving oversized vehicles don't streets that are just too narrow. get caught and expect to pay between 50 and $250. a $200 million proposal can completely change the national mall but you might not even notice it. the coalition to save the mall proposed building an underground parking lot which could house 1,000 vehicles. the structure would be below the smithsonians and help to relieve traffic congestion on the roadways including getting rid of the idoling buses. >> it's been difficult and challenging for many people to find parking on the mall so it is worth consideration. the projected structure could also make blooding a thing of the past on the mall. the coalition says the $200 million price tag would be footed by private money if the plan gets approval from congress.

new details about the evacuation at los angeles international airport last night. we brought you the story as breaking news last night at 11:00. initial reports of gunfire were false. people mistook a car accident outside the arrivals terminal as shots and said a woman had some sort of medical emergency and lost control of her car and hit another woman on the sidewalk finally slamming into a parked car. rescuers took the two women to the hospital. you have to checthis out. tense moments aboard a flight that just landed in atlanta. a passenger caughhe who thing on camera. you're going to see here officers getting on the plane to address a man being disruptive from a flight from fort lauderdale. he started screaming he had a bomb on the plane. the man is taken to the hospital. there's no word on if he is going to face any charges. the rest of the passengers were eventually allowed to get off the plane. new today the united nations says it needs nearly 300 $50 million for disaster aid by

those affected by the typhoon in the philippines. the death toll more than 5200. people in tacloban are finding more people in the debris. it hit two weeks ago displacing 4 million people. at least 1600 are still missing. organizers will show a boxing patch featuring manny paquio to those displaced by the tie fan. organizers hope the match will lift the spirits of those devastated by the deadly storm. in the day ahead you can ice skate and help people in the philippines. it's happening in pentagon row in arlington and the owners are donated a dollar to the american red cross for every skating ticket that is purchased this weekend. >>

people started asking what should we do. if you could fly out of town sooner than wednesday i would get on an earlier flight. there could be big delays just in time for one of the busiest travel days of the year t day before thanksgiving. outside on our fine saturday morning, all is by comparison relatively quite and warm. and i say warm even though temperatures are in the 40s right now. 45 degrees at national airport. that's going to feel warm everybody by tomorrow. winds are out of the northwest at 15 miles per hour and, boy, is it going to be windy around here for the rest of today, tonight, and tomorrow. ferociously windy tomorrow afternoon. temperatures mid to upper 30s now in northern maryland. that's the leading edge of cold shot number one starting to settle back in the area. temperatures are 5 to 10 degrees or so colder now than the same time yesterday. by the time tomorrow, temperatures will be another 15 or more degrees colder than this. so out and about on your

it's all part of the 27th annual d.c. adoption ceremony. our own barbara harrison will mc the event. it starts at 10:00 at the d.c. superior court. several new families will celebrate thanksgiving together for the first time and you can find out more about the children in d.c.'s foster care system on nbc washington.com just search wednesday's child. it may look like a trailer for a thrilling new action movie but most of us already know the ending here. someone made this mock movie trailer for the big batkid event that happened in san francisco. we told you about this last week when 5-year-old leukemia patient miles scott brought the city to a stand still as the make a wish foundation helped him become batkid for a day. his parents are starting the batkid fund to help other families with sick children. >> it's never to early to address your constitutional right to address grievances.

in maryland the average is up t cents to $3.32 and in virginia it is $3.15 up 8 cents and in west virginia the average is two cents higher than a week ago at $3.34. >> travel experts consider prices low compared to this time last year. >> and triple a is still predicting fewer people will travel for thanksgiving. chris clackum has the reasons why. >> reporter: at least american motorists can be thankful for the price of gas which averaging about $3.21 a gallon is 20 cents lower than last thanksgiving and the lowest in three years. aaa, though, is predicting all travel will actually be down this year because the economy still isn't where it was. >> the things such as the unemployment rate and housing market have indeed, improved but not enough to change people's travel intentions. >> reporter: the auto club predicting just under 44 million americans will mostly drive for

thanksgiving this year where the economics of going by car all the in the forefront. >> i tend to do a lot of planning in advance. i go online and i research, i research. everything from restaurants to lodging to activities. >> reporter: aaa is also predicting a drop in air travel, again, because of the cost. and like in years past more than a third of all travelers will leave for their trip next wednesday with an equal number returning the following sunday. chris clackum, nbc news. to help you get to your destination quicker vdot is lifting lane restrictions during thanksgiving. crews will remove lane restrictions on interstates and highways. it will happen at noon wednesday and end monday december 2nd at noon. vdot says call 511 to avoid delays. this morning we're hearing about another change to the

affordable care act roll out. the deadline to sign up for health care was pushed back again. you have until december 23rd to sign up for coverage that goes into effect january 1st. t they are prepared for a rush as people shop during open enrollment. they updated the software and don't expect new problems. for the second day in a row you can see people getting the word out about health care in an attention grabbing way. they're sending fact mobs into four metro stations to blast information about the affordable care act and the district's online insurance marketplace. many of them will be using bull horns later this morning. d.c. leaders also want to discuss health care with people in the district. major vincent grey and eleanor holmes norton will be among those at d.c. health link information and enrollment fair. it's this morning at the martin luther king memorial library. today will be a traffic test for prince george's county police and the tanger outlets.

watch out for delays this morning when you take metro. track work could have you waiting for awhile for the next train. orange and blue line trains are running only every 24 minutes. the red line vuning a little faster every 8 to 16 minutes. the yellow and green lines are running as normal and all stations are open system wide. a battle is brewing over street space in d.c. and it may all come to a head on monday. in two days the district will begin to install aa protected bike line on m street? northwest. it will run from 14th to 28th and service westbound cyclists but it comes at a price. they'll give up valuable street parking to make room for the lane. it will be weekdays between the morning and evening rush. this morning, the christmas tree that will light up the u.s. capitol is getting closer to

overall score followed by t mobile and at&t. sprint came in last. they ranked by service cost and customer support. >> happening today in the district. kicking off the holiday season closing down roads g street between 12th and 13th street northwest is closed and will remain closed until 7:30 tonight. the reason, macy's at metro center will unveil it's holiday windows at 3:00. you're getting a look at the macy's windows display. they were unveiled on thursday. today d.c. will celebrate with it's own festivities including the blue marching band, performances from the nutcracker and also remarks from mayor grey. we're less than a week from thanksgiving. i feel like november just flew right back. that means that people are gearing up to shop for black friday. >> as we saw already the shopping has begun but a lot of stor aren't waiting for thanksgiving to finish. they already started.

julie carey has more on the rush to black friday. >> reporter: call it black friday creep. fairoaks mall and several others in the area announced they'll open at 8:00 p.m. thanksgiving night. four hours earlier than the midnight openings that are become customary. they settled on the opening after macy's backed up it's time and after seeing the switch elsewhere. >> we have had other malls within our portfolio that opened last year on thanksgiving to huge success. last year we opened at midnight. we had thousands of people here at midnight and so in looking at those customers we are realizing that we'll have even more people if we open a little earlier. >> reporter: there's another reason too. the holiday shopping season is compressed this year. with a late november thanksgiving there are six fewer shopping days until christmas. this die hard black friday shopper says she will be there for thursday night openings. >> i like the excitement of it and the people and all the kids

excited. i really enjoy it. so yes i like it. >> reporter: but others have no desire to break away from the family gathering around the turkey. >> i'm always amazed at when they move back the hours. it doesn't leave a lot of time for family and dinner and spending time for the holidays so i probably will not be out. >> reporter: not all retailers are following the trend, though. in fact, some like nordstrom are doing counter programming reinforcing to customers that they won't be decking the halls until friday. if you're looking to put some holiday spirit in your step, you can head to gaithersburg tonight for the annual run under the lights 5-k. runners make their way through 380 winter wonderland scenes. that race starts at 6:15. if you can't run tonig the lights will stay up throughout the season. the people at the butterball turkey hotline have been giving

trail of chitchat over there. it is indeed off to a pleasant enough start. clear skies for now. we'll have a dry weekend. that's the one piece of good news i can give you is that you will not need to worry about the umbrellas at all for today and for your sunday. however, that doesn't mean it's going to be smooth sailing all the way through the weekend. your early morning saturday sky is a pretty one. mostly clear skies out there for now. still in the mid 40s. you'll notice winds out of the northwest at 15 miles per hour. that northwest wind is going to drive colder and colder and colder still air all the way into the region for much of the weekend. so for today a mix of clouds and sunshine later on today and today will be far and away the warmer half of the weekend. highs late this morning until early this afternoon. so breezy and cooler than that 63 degree day we had yesterday buch. but this is the leading edge of a very cold snap coming our way.

the wizards and caps trading places today. last night they were in toronto. john wall lead the way even though the team came up short. wall had 37 points. in the end it was the baltimore native of the raptors that closed the door. they win
