we are following several breaking stories tonight, including a postal worker shot and killed in prince george's county neighborhoods where we are live there at the scene where he was gunned down on the job. plus, at least seven people hurt in a very serious crash in camp springs. many of them teenagers. the roads still closed at this hour. but first tonight, breaking news from geneva. the u.s. and five other world powers officially signed a historic agreement with iran on its nuclear program. the deal was reached after

marathon negotiations that lasted into the early morning hours in switzerland. few details have been released but this is what we do know. this is an interim agreement that lasts six months. it temporarily halts progress on iran's nuclear program. now in exchange, world powers will ease sanctions on iran until a more comprehensive deal can be negotiated. president obama spoke from the white house just a few minutes ago shortly after the deal was signed. >> in these negotiations nothing will be agreed to unless everything is agreed to. the burden is on iran to prove to the world that its nuclear program will be exclusively for peaceful purposes. >> tehran has also agreed to spontaneous inspections of its facilities. look for much more on this story tomorrow on news 4 starting at 6:00 a.m., and then on "meet the press" with david gregory. another big story we're following tonight, the weather.

we are getting ready for some of the coldest air that we have seen all this season, and already tonight we are seeing snow. that's snow flurries in several parts of our area. this is video out of rockville. let's go right to storm team 4 meteorologist amelia segal to see what we're in for tonight and then into tomorrow. amelia? >> many of us saw our first flurries of the season tonight. some areas are continuing to see some light snow, and i'm tracking that on storm team 4 radar. what the snow is really indicating, the beginning of an arctic blast that is going to be with us not only tonight but tomorrow, tomorrow night, even into monday. it is going to be a frigid sunday. right now some light snow persisting in fairfax, loudon, prince william counties. otherwise skies mainly clear tonight and the winds are high. gusts right now around 30 miles an hour, so when you factor in the winds, that brings the windchill temperature, how it

feels outside right now, into the 20s and teens. feeling about 25 in washington, 19 in gaithersburg, erica, that is what we're waking up tomorrow morning. temperatures feel like they are in the teens. more about sunday and the upcoming week in just over ten minutes. >> now to that breaking news that we told you about at the top of the broadcast. news 4 was first to report a mailman getting shot and killed on his route in prince george's county. this happened on reed street in fairmount heights earlier tonight. news 4 darcy spencer is live there with much more. hi, what can you tell us? >> reporter: i spoke to self of this man's co-workers. federal postal workers, fellow postal workers who came here to the scene to find out exactly what had happened. many of them were very upset. they say that they have been complaining for some time about their job being dangerous, having to deliver mail here in the dark, and they are hoping

this tragedy will bring about change. >> we had to lose a letter carrier like that. we are out here working hard and have to be out here unsafe. it could have been me. >> reporter: postal workers arrive at the scene where a fellow mail carrier was shot and killed while making deliveries. >> the issue letter carriers being out here late at night and being in landover in a high crime area, and we have had carriers rbed in landover before. >> reporter: carrier was shot just before 7:30 in the evening on reed street in fairmont heights near the border with sheverley and prince george's county. one resident said she heard five shots. >> safety. post office not caring about us. it's what's going through our mind. not just us, ups, could be anybody, it could have been me. >> reporter: news cameras were kept away from the scene but detectives near the victim's mail truck. the motive for the shooting is

still unknown. >> we've been asking to come in early to get us off the streets early because it's dangerous is not victim's co-workers are sad and angry and hope this death will bring about change to make their job safer. >> the post office won't bring us in earlier, and there's no concern for the carrier. it's all about the mail. had and this right here hopefully it will open up some eyes for the people up top, that safety is a very bad issue right now. >> reporter: prince george's un scene investigating. again, we don't know what the motive was or what happened leading up to the shooting. so far the victim's identity has not yet been released. reporting live, darcy spencer, news 4. >> information coming in right now about a multi-car crash near joint base andries and joins george's county. at least seven people were hurt in the crash branch avenue and allentown road. southbound branch avenue remains

closed right now for the investigation. fire officials say many of the victims are in their teens or early 20s. four of them were thrown from their cars and seriously injured. three were flown to trauma centers. no word yet on what led to that crash e the smithsonian museum of the american indian will reopen tomorrow after a man died there today. a smithsonian spokesperson says that it appears the man jumped from a fourth floor balcony into the atrium just after 4:00 today. hundred of people were inside the museum at the time. the building was evacuated, and paramedics rushed the man to an area hospital his name has not been released yet. the effort to help people sign up for health care continue today in d.c. experts from the district's health care exchange d.c. health link, helped residents enroll and answered their questions at the martin luther king library in northwest. the fair also included free

health screenings, live music and yoga sessions. meanwhile, new revelations tonight with ongoing problems with the federal website healthcare.gov. reports out today in the "new york times" and "washington post" detail problems with the site as early as august. in a statement tonight the company that manages the site acknowledged those issues but said that it did not anticipate the degree of the problems. a texas woman accused of sending ricin-laced letters to president obama and new york mayor michael bloomberg has reached a plea deal. a texas newspaper says federal prosecutors struck the deal with shannon guess richardson this ek. details have not been released. police say richardson mailed ricin-laced letters to the president and bloomberg earlier this year. she has been held in jalt since july. a 20-year-old man from montgomery county is in custody facing a first-degree murder charge tonight.

police say jefferson delgado shot and killed michael alvarado near north summit avenue in gaithersburg on thursday. montgomery county police say there may be another suspect on the loose. several skiles had to be evacuated after that shooting. we have had cases reported in our area, but tonight a high-profile arrest for something called the knockout game. still ahead, why this new case is also being investigated as a hate crime. plus, snow and rain creating havok out west. tonight how a bomb threat.

a storm system that could affect your thanksgiving travel is wreaking havoc out west tonight the the storm system is already responsible for eight deaths. it sparked snow in parts of arizona, california and nevada. icy roads caused several deaths in texas and new mexico, and where it didn't snow it rained. hard enough to cause traffic and traffic delays. some d.c. residents say construction on the virginia avenue railroad tunnel in southeast will be an environmental disaster. neighbors spoke out against the construction during a town hall meeting with delegate eleanor holmes norton today. they say the work will bring hazardous materials into the area. csx trains run on the tracks underneath virginia avenue between second and 11th streets but the tunnel creates a bottleneck. the company wants to allow new track to allow more traffic more than 20 d.c. children officially have new lovely homes tonight. dozens of a i adoptions were finalized today, the 27th annual
