it's going to be cold. if you come out, bundle up. layers. that's what you're saying, right, amelia? >> especially if you're going shopping this morning. it is freezing out there. below freezing actually in many areas. the good news about today not as much wind as we had yesterday on thanksgiving but the chill will continue throughout the day. temperatures right now coming in in the 20s. 24 degrees in dulles. 27 reston. 27 in college park. 31 degrees for those of you in washington. high temperatures today will once again be running a good ten degrees below average. 42 degrees for a high in washington and manassas. 40 for a high in gaithersburg. looking at high temperatures also in the low 40s. typically our high about 53 degrees. but, like i said, the good news, we're not looking at as much wind today. now as we look to the weekend, dry saturday and sunday. however, like i said, that chill

stores for one of the biggest deal days of the year. news 4's megan mcgrath is at the newly opened tanger outlets where many of the stores have been open for four hours now. good morning. >> reporter: yeah, that's right. they've had several hours of shopping here already. but the dynamic has changed a little bit because so many of the stores are opening earlier and earlier. they're not waiting until midnight to open. there's quite a few people here shopping but it's not absolutely packed. we're not seeing the frenzy that you used to see at the midnight openings but some great deals to be had. they're rolling out discounts depending on what time you shop. right now offering 30% off between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. and le'shai here has done a lot of shopping. you have bags. >> i have a lot of bags here, going shopping are for my niece, my nephew, my sister, everything is out of the way. >> reporter: all right, what time did you get here and what kind of deals are you getting? >> 2:30. it was 20% but now we're up to

desk with some breaking news. new this morning a suspected u.s. drone has taken out alleged militants in pakistan. this overnight strike hit in the country's tribal region in north waziristan. official officials say the drone faired two missiles and struck a house used as a hideout by militants with ties to the afghan taliban. three suspected members of this group were killed. two others injured. the american government rarely makes public anything about its drone program in that country but pakistani officials regularly criticize the attacks as a violation of their country's sovereignty although they have reportedly supported at least some of these strikes in the past. that is the latest now from the live desk. i'm molette green. back to you. >> thanks, molette. we expect to learn how a missing national guardsman tied. evan can curbeam's body was found on wednesday. a meddlecal examiner will release the cause of death today. curbeam spent a night out with friends in fells point, last seen walking to his car. his family reported him missing

after he failed to pick up his 4-year-old daughter the next morning. the d.c. national guard released a statement that reads in part, it is with heavy hearts that we learned today of the loss of one of our own. he was a consummate professional. this car crash involved a police cruiser as you can see. take a look at it. it snarled traffic in silver spring last night around 8:30. the accident involved a cruiser and a minivan and despite how bad this looked, no one was hurt. covering prince george's county this morning, officials gave the all clear after a huge sinkhole swallowed up an suv. a broken water main forced the road to give way. this is at marlboro road. people were without water until 4:00 yesterday afternoon and traffic was a mess. backed up as crews removed the suv and repaired the broken pipe. a big delivery today at 1600

pennsylvania avenue. first lady michelle obama will welcome the white house christmas tree. the 18 1/2 foot douglas fir is coming from pennsylvania. the family that owns the farm will walk along a horse drawn cart that will deliver the tree late they are morning. then it will sit in the blue room. things will look a lot more festive after two tree lighting ceremonies. santa will be busy today. and then at 7:00 in prince george's county, baker will host a ceremony at national harbor are more than 200,000 lights are strung around the tree. it will be followed by fireworks at 8:00. a popular lights display in the district opens up tonight. zoo lights comes to the national zoo. more than half a million lights will transform the zoo into a winter wonder land with lit animal silhouettes, musical

a stunt pulled by nba coach that's gone viral is going to cost him a chunk of change. you have probably seen this video of jason kidd telling one of his players to hit him so he could get a time-out. kidd claimed the drink slipped out of his hand but league officials don't buy that. multiple sources say he's going to pay a $5,000 fine. and to make matters worse, the nets lost the game. there's also some controversy brewing this morning from the gridiron over a bizarre play during thanksgiving day football right here on nbc. take a look at this. baltimore ravens jacoby jones there returning a kickoff in the third quarter when it appears pittsburgh steelers head coach

i'm molette green at the live desk. right now we're gettinging a number of reports that several buildings are burning after a large blast in missouri. apparently a natural gas pipeline exploded overnight. this happened near hughesville, missouri, about an hour and a half drive east from kansas city. so far no reports of anyone hurt by this. this blast so powerful people 15

oncoming driver forcing another to swerve. that sent the second car down a steep 600-foot embankment. police said the heavy brush on the hill slowed the car down so surprisingly no one was hurt in the accident. hundreds of ohio families are thankful to be back in their homes today after a chemical spill. nearly 425 people were evacuated from their homes tuesday night when a train derailed southwest of cleveland. the train spilled flammable liquid used to make plastic and rubber products. as of now only about three dozen homes are still off limits until later tonight. no injuries were reported. a power outage may be partly to blame for a fire that destroyed a northern virginia home. firefighters snapped peck tours of the flames that shot up from that home on lucasville road in manassas. when the power went out, the homeowners left to cook dinner at a relative's house. when they came back, the fire destroyed their home. they believe a power surge after the outage possibly sparked that fire. fire investigators are looking into that. a tough loss around the holidays for a montgomery county

family. a man was killed in a construction accident in silver spring. rescuers say it appears the man slipped on a small patch of ice. he was working on thanksgiving to get ahead of a project delayed by recent rain. right now police are calling this an accident and foul play is not suspected. this morning police in north carolina are looking for a real life grinch. someone stole a salvation army red kettle. james griffin is a bell ringer at a shopping mall in winston-sal winston-salem. he left his post to hold the door for a grandmother and four kids. when he returned the kettle and $50 in it were gone. he says the crime hurts others in need this holiday season. >> the feeling you have when you work all day, you come out here and look and it's gone, i was surprised and very hurt whoever would take from god 24,000 people that we're trying to clothe and feed and buy toys for. >> there's no surveillance video of the theft, but in an effort

to restore some holiday cheer, the manager of a nearby store pledged $100 into the replacement kettle. >> you could see protesters amid the shoppers, about 1,500 protests planned at wal martz around the country including one in northern virginia. this is video of a black friday pr protest from last year when 30,000 employees and supporters demonstrated. the protests focus on wages and benefits offered to walmart employees. the average hourly wage for the retail giant is around $8.81 an hour. thanks to your smartphone, many malls and individual stores have their own apps that help you find deals. when you're in a store you can even check the company's facebook and twitter accounts because some stores will offer exclusive coupons and giveaways. meantime, some apps compare deals or search black friday ads for you like fatwallet's black friday app.

a man is searching a landfill in the uk this morning for a fortune that he accidentally threw away. james howell is looking for a hard drive that holds 7,500 big coins, an online currency that's gained value. the big coin on that drive, those are now worth $7.5 million. he says he obtained the coins in 2009 but then put the hard drive in a drawer after he spilled a drink off the computer it was housed in. he says it wasn't until the value of the coins started to soar that he realized he threw the drive away. >> that moment was devastating. i was in front of my computer, the drawer was only a few yards away and the first thing i did was move to that drawer and a look. even though i knew it wasn't there. >> howell says he is starting to come to grips with this loss because he was told it could take weeks to find the drive even wh a team of dozens of
