officers found johnnie sutton dead inside the couple's home on frostwood drive in laurel. the couple's 22-month-old child was home at the time. this is the latest on that investigation. darcy? >> reporter: sadly, you can see this family was preparing for  christmas. they have decorations in the front yard, a red bow on the front door. but something terrible happened inside this home on friday. a husband is dead. the wife and mom is in jail, and that child is now staying with relatives. friends of the family remove items from a house where a wife and mother allegedly murdered her own husband while their 21-month-old child was in the home. 30-year-old marquita sutton charged with killing her 38-year-old husband, johnnie sutton, who was in the army. anne arundel county police

confirming his body was stabbed, found in the home friday at 10:30 in the morning. police were called to check on his welfare after he failed to show up for work. his wife turned herself in saturday and is being held on second degree murder. the couple's child, who was there when the killing happened, was not hurt and has been placed with relatives. the home is the only one on the street with christmas decorations in the yard. neighbors say the couple was quiet, had just moved in a few months ago. they had no idea from the outside there was trouble in the home. so far anne arundel county police have not released a motive behind this fatal stabbing. reporting live in laurel, maryland, darcy spencer, news 4. a man apparently slipped and fell on some ice before drowning on the lake in centennial park.

police haven't released the man's name, but they think he was in his 50s. they found him in the water this morning. police do not suspect foul play. the park was open for severclos hours but has since reopened. now there is debate on whether the budget deal will pass in the house senate. despite its overwhelming support in house, the bill's passage is not a sure thing in the senate. conservative groups have voiced opposition to the deal, and some democrats want long-term unemployment benefits extended. nelson mandela is in his final resting place tonight. jets flew overhead as the anti-apartheid hero was buried in his home town of qunu. the burial came after a grand state sendoff. only a few thousand invited guests including family, friends, world leaders and celebrities were allowed to attend. speakers memorialized mandela's

d.c. police have two people in custody who they say shot a man in northwest. an 18-year-old was found with multiple gunshot wounds near m street north capitol near 10:30

last night. he was taken to a nearby hospital. we're told he will be okay. police arrived quickly ask chas -- and chased the suspect down on foot. a motive has not been released. during scheduled testing today, maintenance engineers say there was an issue with the overhead power lines. d.c. streetcar officials say they don't want customers to be concerned. they run tests like these so the problems can creep up now, they can get fixed and won't be a hassle later. >> you want to be safe. you don't want to damage the truck, the cars. you don't want to damage any people. you want to make sure they run safe. we're going to take every precaution we can. >> the test runs will continue throughout the week. the h street line is expected to be ready for passengers next spring. eventually it will extend west to georgetown and east to the minnesota avenue and bening road metro stations. still to come tonight, jim

news4's gym -- jim vance went to one of these stadiums to see all who celebrated. >> reporter: it was a spontaneous circle of celebration and mourning. elsewhere, some people did what they do every sunday, they went to church. in this case there were places where mandela and other members of the national congress would meet in secret. the many south africans who loved man dediba will say their goodbyes from afar. buses have been chartered to bring them here and they'll participate in the funeral services set up on jumbo screens

remain so forever. we are now in alexandra, one of the other townships near johannesburg. once again people have turned out in rather impressive numbers. it's the beginning of summer here. it's the christmas season. normally they come to this stadium to watch soccer. today they're here to watch the funeral services in qunu 400 miles away, their final opportunity to say goodbye to the man we keep hearing referred to over and over again as their father and hope for the future. i'm jim vance, news4. hundreds of children enjoyed an early christmas today in fairfax county courtesy of operation homefront. the organization hosted its annual holiday toy party in lorton. they provide support for active duty members, wounded warriors, disabled veterans and their families. more than 30,000 kids received toys at nearly 100 holiday parties across the country

the potomac river. 39 at the airport. northwest winds at 15 miles an hour are going to drive those temperatures down, down, down, way into the 20s by tomorrow morning. even some scattered upper teens in the northern and western suburbs. front royal, already down to the freezing mark in gaithersburg. 39 downtown. low 40s in frederick, stafford and southern maryland. so it's not too bad now. wind chills are currently, though, thanks to that northwest wind, in the 20s to near the freezing mark. tomorrow morning when you wake up, how about single digits and teens for your monday. then tomorrow afternoon, no real reprieve. even with a decent amount of sunshine, wind chills will stay in the 20s to near 30 all day long. nothing on storm team radar for right now. we'll be dry through tomorrow as well, but an active pattern has more shots of cold air and moisture coming our direction. that means another little chance

this is the problem with sunday games when you lose. everybody is going to be in a funk tomorrow. >> it's been that way the last six weeks. >> just when we thought it couldn't get worse, they d. >> it happened in atlanta. after a week talking about everything not related to football, today we had a chance to get back to what really matters, the actual games. the redskins' quarterback didn't bring back a different result. seven turnovers were too much for the redskins to overcome.
