now at 11:00, arm and dangerous. tonight, the search for the gunman who targeted people at a maryland strip mall. thieves steal a holiday package p package. toss it out once they saw what was inside. how that little boy and social media led them to the rightful owner. and a security breach at a major retailer. tonight, the warning for thousands who paid with plastic on black friday. news4 at 1:001:00 starts now. >> first up tonight, caught on tape. police are asking for your home tonight tracking down several men behind a dangerous crime spree. >> they carjacked a man, assaulted a woman, all at a strip mall and a crucial clue,

captured on video. erika gonzalez joins us live with these details. erika? >> reporter: wendy, tonight, there are four suspects on the loose and they are armed and dangerous. carjacked at gun point. >> he was accosted by three individuals. again, who all were armed with weapons. >> a man and woman literally brought to their knees in fear. four suspects, one in this get-away car. last friday the male victim pulled into a shopping plaza to pick up the woman. he gets out of his green cadillac el dorado and it quickly becomes three against one. he's pummeled. the incident hand along the 4600 block in this area, a number of small commercial businesses with plenty of cameras, enough to catch everything on film. when the woman comes outside she's chased down. this suspect takes a gun with an extended magazine. look closely. police say there's at least 30 rounds there and he holds that gun to her head until she's on

employee says he's not at all surprised. he's work in the shop for six years and been robbed at gun point twice. >> so many gun, took the money. didn't hit me. >> reporter: meanwhile, the suspects in the video leave their victims battered and beaten and take off in both vehicles. >> all four of these individuals are to be armed and dangerous at this people. >> reporter: the get away car is an suv of sorts. and the victim's car, which the suspects got away in, is a '96 green cadillac el dorado. if you see the vehicles or if you see the suspects, do not approach them. do call police. live in prince george's tonight, erika gonzalez, news4. crime in prince george's county is the focus of a meeting tonight. local leaders and police gathering at the sight of a recent murder. the clarion hotel in oxen hill. restaurant manager yes, sir si chavez was killed in october. he was trying to stop an armed robber in the lobby.

a tip led to three arrests. but police want to prevent something like this from happening again. tonight's meeting focused on handling crimes at businesses and helps employees respond to threats in a safe way. a major retailer and a huge heads up tonight. the secret service says it's investigating a data breach at target. hackers may have stolen debit and credit card information from customers over the black friday weekend. right now it's unclear how many people may have had their personal information compromised. target has not responded to e-mails or calls for comment. the secret service is involved because it safeguards the financial and payment systems across the country. a d.c. police officer accused of running a prostitution ring has been on the radar for years. linwood barhill appeared in court today and denied bail. investigators called him a rogue cop, one who targeted young

girls at malls and bus stops. he was arrested earlier this month after a missing 16-year-old was found in his apartment. police say that barnhill had been investigated on similar charges back in 2011 but that investigation came up empty. another man in our area also accuse of running a prostitution ring from his jail cell. police tell us lenny haskins contacted at least two prostitutes from the fairfax adult center. those prostitutes worked out of the best western hotel in rockville. money earned from their activities was funneled into e commissary account in jail. new tonight, we've learned of a jailhouse phone call turned an armed robbery case into a much more serious crime. 20-year-old dequaun tyler was one of three men convicted in a new year's day armed robbery near the tacoma park metro

station. today tyler was convicted on additional charges of witness intimidation. that charge stems from a jailhouse phone call where tyler is heard threatening to hurt any one of his partners in crime if that person testified against him in court. tyler is already serving prison crime connected to that robbery. tonight security cameras can hold the key to explaining why two school buses in fairfax county just caught fire. they were parked in a security -- secured lot across from westerfield high school when they just started burning overnight. today fire investigators looked through the charred debris for evidence of a mechanical problem or arson. the total damage, about $160,000. tonight invest gators say an accident, not arson, sparked this fire at the university of maryland that the statue in front of the library burned early this morning. police tell us a student left a burning candle next to the turtle statue and then the shade

caught fire. students leave items like notes or coffee cups at the statue for good luck during exam week. the university says tonight the statue was not damaged. turning now to our weather. hang in there. one more cold night, then mother nature, yep, she turns up the heat across our region. chief meteorologist doug kammerer let's us know how warm it's going to be get. >> she's going to turn up the heat big time. that's where our headlines are right now. you menged the cold night. it is going to be one cold night tonight. temperatures already in the 20s. and let's take a look at this. one last cold day, yeah, temperatures today only around 44 degrees. that was the high temperature with a low of 33. 12 of the last 18 days have been below average including today so we would like to see at least some temperatures warm up. here comes spring. we're talking about spring-like temperatures for sure as temperatures average around 45 degrees right now. as we move on through the next couple of days, look where we're going. not just the 50s or 60s but near

70 by sunday. and that could set a couple of records. we're talking possible record warmth. i'll let you know how warm i think you can get in your neighborhood. plus, that's not the only thing we're looking at. christmas is in the seven-day forecast. we have developing news from nevada where a man has been arrested on terrorism charges. he was arrested yesterday at his home near reno. accused of helping two terror groups plot attacks in india. singh is an indian citizen and granted asylum in the united states. investigators say he used a fake identity and forged documents. prosecutors say he had no plans to stage any attacks here in the united states. tonight another blow to the nsa's controversial collection of phone records. today a presidential task force said the agency should not be allowed to store mass amounts of phone data. the panel says tonight the government should be required to have a search warrant to access that information. president obama formed the task

force after edward snowden revealed the secret program. the president will consider whether to make changes at the nsa. tonight we're learning more about the new mega millions winners. the tickets were sold in california and georgia and the georgia winner didn't wait long to claim part of her $636 million. her name is ira curie, lives just outside of atlanta. she plans to take the lump sum payout of $123 million after taxes. the other winning ticket was showed at a gift shop in san jose, california. no walter reed yet about who won that but the store owner who sold the ticket says he might know. >> mostly my customer here is my friend. yeah! that's why, i don't know, you know, somebody win, i feel good. >> why is he so happy? he also got a million dollar commission for making the winning sa. and even know no one here hit the big jackpot, two tickets worth one million dollars each sold nearby, one in annapolis

and another with bell west, virginia. to win a million you have to match five out of the six numbers. congress won't start the new year worrying about another government shutdown. the senate passed a bipartisan budget deal today. the two-year deal reverses some of the most painful parts of the sequester. it's also expected to cut the deficit by $23 billion over the next decade. the measure is now awaiting president obama's signature. the final count for virginia attorney general is due at midnight. it is it is now a technicality. republican candidate has conceded the race to mark herring this evening. he said obenshain pledged his support during the transition and will put the differences aside for the good of virginia. this is six weeks after the election that was so close it required a recount. his campaign claims he leads by more than 00 votes. next tonight, a 10-year-old helps solve a crime just days before christmas. >> this is a very unusual name,

charles county police are looking for this woman who is accused of, they say, stealing tens of thousands of dollars. they say she was getting checks

stolen from mailboxes. they believe this woman erases the names on those checks and then fors her own and cashes them in banks. surveillance video shows two guys roaming the halls of a d.c. high school after hours. they stole a computer. theburg familiarry happened last month but the video is from today. the crime is the latest in a string of break-ins in d.c. schools. a package was sent from california to the district for the holidays but it got intercepted by thieves and quickly tossed out after the burglar saw what was inside. shomari stone is in northwest to tell us how a 10-year-old boy was able to track down the person who it belongs to just in time for christmas. >> i'm real -- >> reporter: teddy was surprised when he found this package that someone opened and tossed on the sidewalk in friendship heights on sunday. the 10-year-old and his mother picked it up. >> we have to bring this home. this is obviously a christmas present for an infant. >> reporter: that's because he

looked in the box and saw a baby toy inside. >> there was wrapping paper. >> reporter: just who was this wrapped gift supposed to be delivered to? and how can you find them when the tracking sticker ripped off? but teddy did find the first name of the recipient on the toy's wrapping paper. to bianca. >> this is a very unusual name, so there has to be some way that we can track back who this is. >> reporter: he did. he posted what happened on their neighborhood list serve including bianca and myrles' names. three hours later a breakthrough. someone recognized those names and put them in touch with teddy. >> i was just so awe struck of the whole situation. >> reporter: and so was bianca's mother alisa. >> i am incredibly grateful and not only for his quick thinking and generosity. >> reporter: tonight teddy sits back and listens to christmas c carols in satsz faction knowing

his hard work paid off. he will deliver the box to bianca tomorrow. >> we can all say that we like the feeling when we receive, but i think it's a better feeling when you give someone something. >> reporter: a smile on christmas in northwest d.c., i'm shomari stone, news4. the subject of an incredible rescue. we told you about last night is now in better shape and asking the public to help others in need. cecil williams is blind. he has a seeing eye dog named orlando there. orlando jumped in to try to revive williams after he fainted and fell on to the subway tracks in new york yesterday. a train passed over them but they both survived. when word got out that williams didn't have enough money to keep orlando after his retirement as a gooid guide dog, the donations came pouring in. >> my eyes are misty and i'm tearing right now because, you know, things like this here don't happen for everybody. you know, it should happen, you know, we should care about one another. >> williams is now asking others

to give money to the guiding eyes organization to help others afford the service. our favorite panda cub is getting ready for her close-up. bough-bough will make her public debut january 18th. officials tell us her behavior will determine just how much time she spends outside. bow-bow was born back in august. she's loud and adorable and weighs more than 13 pounds now and she's got a set of lungs on her. i want to hear her, not just see her. >> she should put out some music on itunes. >> yeah. this is actually -- >> yes? >> doug. >> that's me. >> is that what this says here? toss to doug. that's me, wendy. >> the panda's name is doug. >> the next couple of days. >> rename you, though. asking people to rename you. >> i've been here three years now. across the area, looking at clear skies and another chilly night. tonight will be the last in a

series of very cold nights over the past couple of weeks. out there on the radar, nothing to show you. that is good news. nothing to worry about last night at this time. talking about snow making its way through parts of the area. temperatures, 27 right now in culpeper. 29 in fredericksburg. here's where the coldest area is. 23 in manassas. martinsburg, 25. temperatures may drop another couple of degrees. but not too many. everybody here just about will wake up with temperatures into the 20s. exceptions, once gab, right around the d.c. metro area. satellite and radar, clear skies that will allow us to school. tomorrow afternoon i think we see plenty of sunshine. and a very nice day. tomorrow is really going to be quite nice. temperatures will be about five to ten degrees warmer than they were today. we'll call it mild. the average high temperature for today, 45, 46 degrees. i think we'll be up around 50 during the day tomorrow with a mixture of sun and clouds during the afternoon. most areas, upper 40s to lower 50s. 52 degrees going for that number out towards culpeper.

we have been cold across much of the u.s. over the past three weeks in december. that is going to change, however. the cold is going to retreat back towards the west. here comes the warmth. look at the oranges around the reds here down towards the south. these will make their way over towards our region during the day on saturday and then on sunday. we are talking about some very warm air. maybe even near 70. the record high temperature for d.c. on sunday is 72. i think we'll be very close to that. dulles, it's 67. that remay actually be able to break. now, temperatures tomorrow. 50 degrees. we get warmer on friday with a high of 59. and then 63 on saturday with a 30% chance of storms but not too -- or showers, rather. not too worried about the rain on saturday. 50% chance of rain late on sunday. this will not give us a ton of rain. it will bring us temperatures near 70. on the back side, we go right back down. temperatures are 51 on monday and then back into the 40s as we head in towards christmas. a lot of you on my facebook and twitter pages talking about,

hey, if you're going to get warm, at least make sure it's cold on christmas so it feels like the holiday and i think that is exactly what is going to be happening as we move in towards christmas eve and, of course, on christmas, too. so i don't think there's going to be any snow for christmas. chance of a white christmas almost nil but at least it will feel like christmas outside. >> they tell you, you make sure it's cold. you make sure. you. >> doug. >> hey, it is not the hottest holiday toy that had kids lining up in alexandria tonight. get this. they had a love for reading and sharing and they also got to visit with santa. it's the city's housing authority and other agencies teaming up. they gave away 5,000 books at the charles houston rec center. it's part of the alexandria bookshelf program. it reaches children in need who don't have books of their own. and we know how important reading is. that program already has 30,000 shared books in circulation throughout that city. >> good for them. redskins team captain calling it

finish. i just thought our guys, through every run brooklyn made, we kept really good composure, we kept good execution. we had just a lot of really good play. >> it's all good, i guess. wizards take on the celtics on saturday, redskins host the cowboy on sunday. for fans of the burgundy and gold this is it. the last chance to see fletcher play at fedex field. fletcher announcing his retirement at the end of this season, says he's 99% sure. just leaving 1% chance it's open. nobody has done more with less than fletcher. at 5'10", 245 pounds, he's underzine size but never underestimated. not anymore. not after becoming one of the more durable football players in the history of the league. fletcher played 16 years, 254 straight games. sent seven of those years for the burgundy and gold.
