happened here. also, two memorials have been set up. one by the mall entrance near the starbucks. the other inside the mall at center court. the press is going to be given a tour at 10:00 this morning. we'll get our first look, and then the mall openso the public at 1:00. reporting live from columbia mall, megan mcgrath, news4. back to you. >> thank you. this morning, we know more about the two victims shot and killed at that mall. 21-year-old briana ben lolo worked at the zoomy's and has a 2-year-old son. she came from a military family who moved from colorado to maryland. we discovered she lived in college park, blocks from the suspected gunman. she worked with 25-year-old tyler johnson who was also gunned down. his aunt, sidney petty, says he was a caring young man who helped others deal with their drug problems. >> he had his struggles in life. and he struggled very hard to overcome his problems, and then he reached out to others.

>> johnson graduated from centennial high school in ellicott city. he was taking classes at montgomery college. coming up at 4:45, we take a look at the suspected gunman, 19-year-old darion marcus aguilar. he graduated from blake high school in rockville last year. new this morning, the school released a statement. also we'll hear from his mother in an emotional phone call with reporters. now 4:31. time for weather & traffic on the 1s. storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein here now with more on the cold blast we're expecting. tom, good morning. good morning. big contrast going to be moving in as the day progresses. here are your weather headlines. a milder morning. in fact, right now, our temperatures around the region are hovering in the upper 20s north and west of washington to near 40 degrees right at washington, southern and eastern suburbs, near 40. southern maryland through central virginia, in the mid 40s. mid 40s central shenandoah valley. even into the 50s parts of west virginia now. but then during the afternoon, cold winds begin to move in. and we will have windchills plunging.

look, by 4:00 this afternoon, windchills will be down into the teens. winds gusting around 30 miles per hour. then a frigid nationwide coming up. by 8:00 p.m., windchills down to just near ten degrees. and look at our windchills by this time tomorrow morning. they will be sub-zero starting off tuesday morning. so a very frigid tuesday is on tap for us tomorrow. we'll have morning lows just near eight degrees. afternoon highs on tuesday, only in the upper teens with a blustery wind. in a few minutes we'll look at the rest of the week and a warmup on the way. danella? >> good morning. not seeing any reports of accidents in our area. we'll head up to i-270. clear here. the trip from frederick, maryland, heading down to rockville, in both directions, light volume. this is at 109. again, southbound, northbound, no accidents, no delays. continuing this time as you make your way past democracy boulevard and connecting to the spur and heading to the beltway, lanes are open. and if you're traveling on route

29 as well, not seeing any accidents to report. >> all right. thank you. 4:32 now. today in fairfax county, a trial with possible free speech implications. d.c. contractor christopher deetz accuses jane perez of lying in a yelp review and cost him customers. she said, "do not put yourself through this nightmare of a contractor." dietz wants $70,000. small business owners are watching closely. watch out if you haven't paid your taxes. maryland plans to shine a spotlight on the 50 top tax cheats. the comptroller will unveil the 25 individual and 25 businesses that made the list at noon. 17 are from the d.c. metropolitan area, including the top cheats on both lists. the names will then be posted on the comptroller's website. this year's group owes nearly $15 million in back taxes to the state.

one of mayor vincent gray's initiative is seeing pushback against the proposal of a new soccer stadium for the d.c. united. costs aren't finalized. leaders plan to sell an office building for at least $150 million, using the proceeds to pay for the land development. the team would then match that money and possibly invest more. the total cost as it stands now is less than 1/4 of what nat' park cost. if you're looking for a new job in the city, at 10:00 the department of employment services near the minnesota avenue metro station will host a job fair to staff up the newly developed street car program. it's hiring people with good technical skills to be maintenance techs and friendly attendants and street car operators. if you can't attend, you can still apply for a job through the midtown employment group. 4:34. today montgomery county will try to work out a new snag in a design plan for the purple line station in bethesda. the county has been working for months to convince the owners of the apex building on wisconsin

avenue to demolish the building so a station can be built beneath it. the plan would allow for a bigger purple line station. but it would make transferring between the purple and red lines difficult. passengers would have to take two elevators in order to change trains. the county council will discuss alternatives at a discussion today. the recount begins today in a special election that will decide who controls the virginia senate. as of now, democrat lynnwood lewis leads republican wayne coleman by nine votes in the race for ralph northam's senate seat. if lewis wins, the senate will be split 20/20. northam would cast the vote on ties. he is a democrat. d.c. delegate eleanor holmes norton will respond to what she calls republicans' war on women. she will try remove a provision from a bill that bans the district from using local tax dollars on abortions for low-income women. that bill goes to the house floor tomorrow or wednesday. also bans federal subsidies for health insurance plans that

cover abortion. president obama will keep a low profile today. he'll put the finishing touches on his state of the union address. that speech is tomorrow night. nbc news national affairs writer tom curry says you can expect a more combative tone from the president. and n his words, his message will be "i'll go it alone." that means bypassing congress if that's what it takes to get things done. new information in the maryland mall shooting. the message the gunman's high school is getting out as we learn more about him. ahead, new problems for thousands in the wake of this dramatic pipeline explosion. why they're being told to bundle up. good morning, a few clouds rolling through now. temperatures are mild, above freezing much of the region. a polar plunge on the way.

u.s. health officials are investigating what caused nearly 300 people aboard a cruise ship to become severely ill. according to the cdc, 281 passengers and two crew members became sick from a norovirus aboard the "explorer at sea." it left cape liberty, new jersey, last tuesday bound for the caribbean. the fast-moving stomach bug left many passengers quarantined to their rooms. the ship is heading back to the states two days early. in the middle of another wintry blast, people in minnesota are being asked to conserve their heat by turning down their thermostats for the day. the request is connected to this massive explosion. youistry that.

on saturday a natural -- you see it there. on saturday a natural gas pipeline burst into flames. burned for several hours as crews tried to put it out. the specific pipe supplies gas to much of minnesota. officials believe it should be fixed sometime today. until then, minnesotans are bundling up for the cool indoor temperatures. the outside high for today, negative two. little farther east, chicago kids will be staying home today. the windy city canceled classes because of the bitterly cold temperatures. windchills put the city's temperature around negative 25 for much of the day. similar cold weather temperatures are slated for tomorrow which could lead to more cancelations. the deep freeze also grounded hundreds of flights in and out of chicago. you know when they're canceling school in chicago, it's really bad. people in chicago are used to it. we're not used to it. >> not at all. and yet, here it comes again. let's check the forecast. tom, at least we can get through today okay, right? >> enjoy the balmy temperatures while you can. good morning. there's a live view of washington's skyline from our storm team 4 city camera. here is another view from upper

olympics. molette green following more from the live desk. good morning. right now the olympic torch is in one of the most dangerous regions in russia. take a look at this video of the relay from yesterday. we're work to get you video of this morning's scene in dagestan. seeing lots of tweets about heavy security for the arrival of the torch in that region today. that's the site of recent deadly attacks. home base for terror suspects. we've also learned this morning that for safety reasons, the number of torch barers was cut short from 270 down to 67. security cleared the crowd gathered there this morning at a football stadium to see the torch. still, this olympic relay is the largest in history, traveling more than 40,000 miles. that is the latest from the live desk. i'm molette green. back to you. >> all right. thank you. 4:49 now. and the songs that had a lot of folks singing and dancing all year long are on top of the music industry this morning. the biggest winners are -- two french robots.

>> the grammy goes to -- random access memories! >> electric music duo daft punk took home the top honors of album and record of the year. it was also a fwhieth for rap duo mclemore and ryan lewis. they tied for four awards including best new artist. and new zealand's counter culture time took home two grammys including song of the year for "royals." one of the stiringers has a message -- >> by the power vested in me by the state of california, i now pronounce you a married couple! >> mclemore and ryan lewis performed their lit "same love" as 33 couple include something same-sex couples got married during the performance. madonna joined that performance, and queen latifah presided over the event.

comparison. what a tremendous warmup we've had just in the last couple of hours. southwesterly breezes bringing in above freezing temperatures. feels balmy. almost 40 degrees in washington. near 40 in prince george's county, much of fairfax county. also in the upper 30s, near 40. north and west of washington, still in the 20s. in fact, look at martinsburg, only 18 degrees. south of there, it's 34 in winchester. luray at 45. soy a tremendous warmup -- so a tremendous warmup. in the mountains, high spots into the 50s. that mild air ahead of much colder air that's going to begin to move in this afternoon. we've got a few clouds, rain and snow in western pennsylvania. for students at the bus stop, you'll need your warm coat. take it with you. you probably won't need to wear it, though, because it's so mild. we'll be in the low to mid 40s between now and through mid morning. but then you'll need that warm coat during the afternoon. as you head back home from

i guess you can thank last week's winter weather for some lower gas prices. aaa says the snow and extreme cold caused demand in gas to drop. that means less pain at the pump. it might not last long, though, with february around the corner. prices could rise as manufacturer get ready to start making summer blend gas. right now aaa says that in the district the cost of regular unleaded will cost you $3.55 a gallon. the average in maryland is $3.36 a gallon. across virginia, the average is $3.17 a gallon. and in west virginia, it is $3.36 for a gallon of gas. this morning, montgomery county police are looking for the stolen white porsche. it was taken from the silver spring exxon while the driver was filling up.

officials say a robber jumped into the driver's seat and took off while the driver wasn't looking. nobody was hurt in the incident. a dog's owner's plea here on news4 has now led to a happy reunion flag. margo the dock -- reunion. margo the cockapoo is back with her owner. his home was burglarized, but margo was missed the most. police tips led him to the dog. a man was arrested and is tied to eight other residential burglaries including burglaries on christmas eve and new year's. today the national law enforcement officers' memorial will honor three officers killed in the district. martha martinez and michael miller and d.c. officer hank daly were killed in november of 1994 when a gunman walked into the cold case office at d.c. police headquarters and opened fire. tonight family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers will receive recorded memorial tributes at a ceremony
