weather. >> let's get over to storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell. good morning. >> good morning to both of you and a good saturday morning. you waited all week for the weekend and the end of the bitter cold and it's all here for you just in time for your saturday and sunday. storm team 4 radar shows a little bit of light rain and snow way out to our west but it will stay away from us. we have a nice dry day ahead of us today and most of tomorrow. snow chances arrive monday. temperatures below freezing. not that bitter cold. 31 degrees at national airport. mid-30s here this morning. rising to the low 50s for a time today. clouds sneaking back in tonight and tomorrow. mild today and tomorrow. we'll talk more about that monday snow chance in a few more minutes. this morning marks one week since a shooting at a maryland mall left two employees dead. today friends and family will honor the victims during two

events. the columbia mall will hold a moment of silence at 11:15 this morning. it's one minute to the moment that two employees of zumiez were shot. also this morning police say they have pieced together more of what gunman darion marcus aguilar was doing in the hours before those shots went off in the mall. earlier this week we told the police said he stopped in burtonsville before the shooting in columbia. he met someone at a wendy's there which has investigators wondering if aguilar acted alone. >> there's no indication there was anybody directly involved in the actual shooting. there do not appear to be a lot of people who were close to this individual. >> investigators are now trying to figure out if the person he met with in burtonsville is the same one seen on surveillance video who was with aguilar on the day he bought the shotgun.

after shooting benlolo and johnson aguilar took his own life. in michigan police are on the hunt for a man who shot two college students near michigan state university. we just got this video into our newsroom of the scene. this happened around 9:00 last night at an apartment complex near the university in lansing. today a mexican restaurant in the district plans to re-open after some guys came in with masks and guns and robbed customers having dinner. four armed men wearing black masks busted into the authentic mexican food restaurant last night a few blocks from catholic university. the robbers took customers cell phones and pointed a gun at employees. the robbers left with cash. this morning crews will be back on one d.c. street that's closed because of a huge sinkhole. a water main break caused the

road to open up at massachusetts avenue. it's not threatening any homes but ddot says the home is growing. it could be seven to ten days before the road is back open for drivers and that's if the weather cooperates. if you are headed towards the city get off massachusetts avenue by turning left on to n street, then hang a right on to 34th street and take a left back on to massachusetts avenue. by the way some 7,000 cars use this stretch of mass avenue every day so there could be some delays. >> a live look at times square in new york city where it is expected to be a very busy day. we're 36 hours away from kick-off of super bowl xlviii and the country's biggest, brightest intersection has been transformed into super bowl boulevard. today police in that city will be on high alert trying to figure out who sent suspicious letters. a manager said he opened a

letter and a powder fell out. a typed letter mentioned al qaeda. powder is not dangerous. one of those letters was sent to a business owned by former new york mayor rudy giuliani. people headed to the gym will have to travel light. tsa is work with police. only fans with game tickets will be allowed to use the rail line that goes directly to met life stadium. they can't have any bags larger than a clutch. clear plastic bags are allowed. customs and border protection say they are ready to enforce a no-fly zone during the game. pilots are ready to intercept any planes that come around a 30 mile radius. we'll try to make radio contact with it. tell them where we are, who we are, and what we would like them to do. our primary job is to intercept

threatening to kill former president george w. bush. prosecutors say benjamin smith threatened to kill former president so that he could go out with his daughter barbara bush. police arrested smith in new york yesterday morning while he was sitting in a car with a loaded rifle, machete and a container of gasoline. the man's mother called police when she found a threatening note. >> this morning police are trying to figure out how razor blades got into packages of butter in new jersey. customers say they found the blades in kerrygold butter. the supermarket pulled the kerrygold from its stores. nasa face a lawsuit this morning because of a recent discovery on the surface of mars. last week nasa released pictures after finding mysterious rock. a california man claims it's

actually a living thing and he's suing the space agency for failing to investigate it. he calls it negligent nasa didn't take any close up photos. nasa believes it's just a rock that the rover turned up out of the ground. a closely watched trial on a defamation trial on yelp. a jury found a virginia woman and d.c. contractor defamed each other. the contractor sudden for writing a one star review on the popular website. he was seeking $750,000 in damages. perez filed a counter claim for defamation. the jury didn't award any damages in the case. both parties say they feel inventory die indicated by the verdict. what did he know and when did he know it? this morning new allegations against new jersey governor chris christie and the claims that are coming from a man that used to be one of his closest allies. >> right now a quiet start to

. this morning new jersey governor chris christie is trying to keep his cool despite new allegations in a growing traffic scandal. christie did not answer any questions as he hit the town in new york last night.

he wt birthday party for "america's got talent" judge howard stern. he posted a photo of him on stage introducing jon bon jovi. this comes just after a traffer back into the headlines. >> reporter: a lawyer for david wildstein embroiled in the george washington bridge lane closure scandal released a letter disputing chris christie's claim he didn't know anything about it. >> i was blind sided yesterday morning. >> reporter: in the letter david wildstein's lawyer argued that he not only knew about the closures but described them as the christie's order. there's evidence that mr. christie had knowledge of the lane closures. >> this is a hugely significant development in the investigation. it's a direct challenge to the

credibility of governor christie. but until we see the evidence that david wildstein is talking about it's very hard to know how to evaluate it. >> reporter: on january 9th in that press conference christie denied knowing about not to mention okaying what he called a political vendetta. >> i'm humiliated by the fact i did not know this and i was deceived and that's an awful way to feel. >> reporter: david wildstein was appointed by christie had resigned from the port authority when he appeared at a hearing in front of the new jersey state assembly without wouldn't answer any questions. >> on the advice of my counsel i respect fully assert my right to remain silent. >> reporter: what did the governor know and when did he know it has been the key question. bridget anne kelly sent an e-mail to david wildstein saying time for traffic problems in ft. lee. david wildstein replied got it. new jersey is conducting their

own investigation. responses to those subpoenas are due next week. assemblyman is leading the investigation. >> i don't know what documents he's referring to. we have subpoenaed documents from him. i'm frustrated as committee chair that we had asked for documents from him through a valid subpoena. he provided us over 900 pages and apparently the documents he's referring to were not part of that response. >> christie's team claims the letter confirms what the governor has said all along that he had no prior knowledge of the closures before they happened. they say he stands by his denials in he did not know the closures would be political motivated. >> two boy scout leaders are facing charges for topping over a boulder. there it is. that video shows david hall and

here lately and it looks like there may be another little chance for winter coming in our way in the near future. don't push the panic button just yet. your weekend is looking fine. there's storm team 4 radar. way up there in the left-hand corner of your screen a little chance for light rain/snow mix across far western maryland. that's where it will stay for the remainder of the day. we'll be sitting pretty. all this moisture stays out to our north and west for today and for most if not all of tomorrow as well. so a lot of optimism in your weekend forecast. right now just a few fair clouds outside. 31 degrees at national airport. again that's nowhere near as cold as we've been the last couple of mornings and better still the wind has gone calm so not much of a wind chill to chill you down either. current temperatures generally speaking in the upper 20s to around the 30 degree mark. your hometown forecast, in rockville, maryland, 31 degrees

at account a.m. 48 degrees by lunch time today. spending most of the afternoon in the upper 40s might even be in the low 50, 51 degree range for a brief time this afternoon and a fair amount of sunshine but really with any sunshine and temperatures up near 50 degrees it's going to feel so much nicer than it's been. mild for a change and we get to keep the change for today and tomorrow. the colder air is lurking, though. it will make its way back on monday. for today start to finish by 5:00 partly cloudy skies and temperatures upper 40s and low 50s. overnight tonight a few clouds coming in. one or two lone some sprinkles in maryland and eastern shore. that low pressure out to the sea looks like it will be leaving the metro area alone. a full meltdown on the way for tomorrow. those last lingering snowmen hanging on will be gone by the end of the day tomorrow. clouds come back in late tomorrow. a chance one or two rain drops tomorrow evening. that's not what we're watching

for. by 2:15 on monday morning there's the leading edge of our next snow chance and this area between the pink and the purple there, that's the rain/snow line. we'll have to watch that one very closely. first indications it could be several inches of accumulating snow. we'll be detailing that a whole lot more in the next couple of days. for today a nice one. 52 today. how about 55 degrees tomorrow. double nickels. you got to love that. then, again, a little rain/snow chance on monday. most of the snow will be on the front part of the day monday and another chance it could start iciness on wednesday but mostly a rain thing. we'll watch that monday thing very carefully. the d.c. area coming through once again. how a group of local leaders disappear headed a great act of kindness for people overseas. >> pretty soon you can bypass >> pr[ male announcer ]bypass at northrop grumman,

thousands of syrian refugees slept a little warmer last night because of the generosity of those half a world away. northern virginia leaders donated 18,000 blankets. david culver logged on to skype. >> it's a humbling experience.

there's 7,000 people. they left their homes with little other than what they can carry or what was on their backs. these are professional folks, teachers, policemen, doctors, lawyers who have to flee their home country because their home government is shelling or bombing their community. >> and when we came last october it was just heart tugging to see these individuals, particularly the children in the situation that they were living in. >> about two months ago we were on a trip with the american turkish association and actually visited this syrian refugee camp and we were overwhelmed. i mean it was a transformational moment of our trip and we visited a family, a specific family in the camp and they asked if we could bring us some blankets. well we did that.

in fact we brought 18,000 of them with us through all of the wonderful donations from people from all over northwestern virginia but particularly loudoun county and purcellville and fairfax. we went back to that same family that we visited and i was able personally to give a baby blanket to one of the man's daughter who was about 7 years old from a girl who made this blanket in herndon, virginia. >> people at the camp were definitely so happy because we had seen some of the families two months ago, and we told them, we promised them we would be back. the kids, moms and dads were so happy to see us back. >> that was part of a conversation with news4 david culver. the american turkish friendship association sponsored that trip. warning for parents this morning. we're back with a popular baby

the mall will hold a movement silence for the two victims this morning at 11:15 the time the shooting happened one week ago. today 100 new traffic cameras will ticket violators in the district. the cameras will ticket drivers who don't stop for pedestrians in a marked crosswalk. the fines range from $50 to $300. security is on high alert this morning in new york city just a day before the super bowl. investigators now say that the powder found in letters that were sent to several hotels near met life stadium are not dangerous. in the meantime expect tight security on trains and also in the air. we will be following those stories and more throughout the weekend. we're also monitoring some changes to our weather. >> overnight temperatures near the freezing mark feels warm. >> chuck bell february is off to a nice note >> the complaint department closed officially at midnight.

night monday morning snow chance. this morning montgomery county police need your help to find a man suspected in a burglary spree. investigators say the same man robbed nine businesses most of them along frederick road in gaithersburg and rockville. they happened within two days starting december 109. police are looking for this man. take a good look. surveillance captured his face during one of the break ins. if you recognize this man please call montgomery police. this morning police are trying to figure out who shot and killed a 21-year-old couple in southeast d.c. renata brown and harley ingraham were found dead. the kids were not hurt that were in the home. the couple was targeted but not sure why. that double murder brings the number of homicides in the district to 14 in january alone. d.c. police say four were domestic and happened inside apartments. they say it's something they cannot control.

last january three murders were reported in the district. expect delays on metro this weekend. transit agency is working on every line except the green line. all station will remain open on the red line track work will happen between farragut north and van ness. on the orange line they are working at minnesota avenue and deanwood. and blue line crews are working on track between pentagon city and arlington cemetery. on the yellow line track work between pentagon city and l'fante plaza. since virginia's new stricter law about texting and driving, 720 tibs have been given out across the state. 168 of those were in fairfax county. virginia beach and prince william county were right

behind. >> forget driving you could seen have a new way to get around town that doesn't involve roads, bridges or trains. instead take a gondola through the air from georgetown. chris lawrence explains why the idea is a step closer to reality. >> reporter: imagine bypassing the buses and cars on a four minute ride from georgetown to rick santorum lynn. planners envision a fwon dolla ferrying thousands of people across the potomac. >> i can picture it going back and forth. >> i know when i visited up in rhode island, providence they have a gondola up there. it's a big deal there. i think having that here in d.c. would be awesome. >> reporter: joe says for a relatively reasonable $80 million the gondola could carry 4,000 passengers an hour. cheaper than light rail and without adding congestion on the key bridge. >> it moves more people much more quickly. >> reporter: it's part of
