entire region has been warm today, warming up to 50 degrees. there's a winter storm watch set to take effect. amelia siegel is here with you. >> the good news, this winter storm watch does not begin until tomorrow evening, so for tonight and tomorrow, one more period of kind of quiet, comfortable weather. here's your evening planner for tonight, most areas are dry, those of you in southern maryland and the northern neck do have a chance of a shower, but everywhere else will be dry, and for the first weekend in february, pretty comfortable, with temperatures around 40 degrees for the remainder of the evening hours. i am tracking some light rain down in southern virginia and this could impact the northern neck and southern maryland during the evening and overnight hours, but this is our next weathermaker, it arrives overnight tomorrow night and continues throughout the day on monday. this system is all about the rain and snow. right now we're looking at more snow to the north of washington, more rain to the south of washington. i'll be back in just over ten

minutes with who's under a winter storm watch from this system and more on the timing. >> too good to be true. today marks one week since that deadly shooting at the columbia mall. 19-year-old dariian aguilar opened fire there. friends of the two victims organized a special tribute. news4's derek ward has more. >> reporter: at exactly 11:15 in the morning, the time of the shootings one week ago, a moment of silence around the fountain and throughout the mall in colombia, where one week ago three young lives converged in a way no one could have expected or wanted. it's changed the way many see this place, and even changed the faces of mall patrons. but changings reached beyond the -- the shooter appeared to be a normal 20-something, not

like colombia, i sincerely believe it could happen anywhere. >> i've been at the mall, skitting up there for about four hours at a time. i just want to get the word across that we need to move on in a positive way. >> reporter: in columbia, maryland, derick ward, news4. it's about to get a bit more expensive to drive in the district. cameras will ticket speeders, red light runners and driver who is block the box at an intersection. they'll also take pictures of those who don't stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk. it's all part of a program called d.c. street safe and fines range from $50 to $300. we have a list of where the cameras are located on nbc washington.com, just search for speed cameras. and the search is on tonight for a driver who ran over a pedestrian in the northeast and kept right on going a metro

transit police officer called for an ambulance around 6:00 this morning after the officer watched the car hit the victim. officers from d.c. and prince george's county chased the driver but lost him. investigators say the man was driving a blue or green saturn. a major traffic alert in arlington, colombia pipe will be shut down all weekend between south queen street and south on street. crews are finishing demolition of the old bridge over the pike. this doesn't affect washington boulevard lists, but columbia pike will be closed the next two weeks for that demolition to continue. new campaign finance reports have just been released in the district and they show the mayor has raised more than $6 billion for hbillion

-- $6 billion in eincluding counsel member tommy wells, but he's refusing to take corporate donations. the democratic primary is april 1, but early voting begins in just about six weeks. tonight former chicago mayor richard daly is in the hospital. daly's spokeswoman says he is in the icu after he got sick on a flight last night. daly felt disoriented when the plane landed in chicago. the former mayor will undergo tests a and his exact condition ask not known. he was the mayor of chicago for two decades before leaving office in 2011. new jersey governor chris christie is responding tonight to new accusation he knew more about that -- christie e-mailed supporters today saying those claims are not truchlt and he attacked the "new york times" and a former appointee making

those allegations. meanwhile federal prosecutors met privately with state lawmakers on friday. they reportedly asked the legislators not to take any steps that might interfere with their criminal probe. governor christie's office is under investigation for closing lanes on the george washington bridge last september. that was after the ft. lee may your refused to endorse him in christie's re-election campaign if the governor is implicated, he must step down. >> i think the governor has to consider resigning. >> it's a bad day for new jersey, a bad day for government and a bad day for moving the state ahead. >> christie's office issued a statement denying his knowledge of the plan to close that bridge. >> coming up, a woman returns home to find a gaping hole in her ceiling. the piece of metal she says fell out of the sky and into her dining.

height of this week's massive traffic jam. the security detail used emergencies lanes to by pass traffic so he could do an interview with the weather channel which is based in atlanta. the mayor's spokesperson defended that interview. two inches of snow and ice shut down the city on tuesday, some people had to spend the night in their cars parked on the side of highways, others slept in stores and restaurants. >> the olympic games in sochi are one week away now. some members of the usa are starting to arrive there. the u.s. bobsled team were the first to arrive there. other athletes from other countries are starting to arrive. the game's opening ceries are this friday. and you can stay with nbc and news4 for all your olympic coverage. our own jim hand lrly is in soc.

into effect in the counties here in blue. this includes montgomery, loud on and frank counties, rain arrives tomorrow evening around 11:00 p.m. that transitions to snow for some of us, mainly those of you in the watch, early on monday. now the watch has been issued because up to five inches of snow is possible. does this mean if you're in the watch you're getting five inches of snow? no, but right now we're thinking that this would be the most snow there. and again, more snow north and more rain to the south. weather impact force monday, that commute will be slow, you're dealing with rain or snow. schools are likely in the watch, not in the watch, it's kind of dicey right now. the side roads could still be a little bit slick, but at that point, this event has already come to an end. temperatures right now are in the 40s.
