we're joining you early this morning to bring you up to date on the winter weather conditions. >> we're awaiting a big decision that could impact many of you at this hour. let's go to molette green at the live desk. just minutes ago we got word from the office of personnel math, federal government offices are opening today. workers do have the option of taking unscheduled leave or to telework with supervisor approval. that's big news for many government workers. back to you. >> thank you. 4:01. storm team 4 has been tracking the system for days. the timing is playing out along with their forecast. let's go to meteorologist tom kierein. tom? >> yeah. we have this freezing rain that began around 10:00 last night. it's been continuing since then. it's let up a lot. not getting any right now right in the district. just a little freezing drizzle. it's north and west, the area in pink. there is the legend. anything where you see the pink is icing. we are getting that still in western fairfax county. some light amounts additionally

now in leesburg, over toward gaithersburg, montgomery county, and parts north and west of there. we've had some reports of up to a quarter to a half inch of ice on tree limbs and power lines. most of the roads, though, have stayed pretty much ice free because the rain came down hard. they've been treated well. look at our temperatures -- we are hovering around the low 30s in washington, right near freezing in prince george's county. but it's just near 30 in montgomery county. so this is critical. it's right near the freezing mark. and points west and north, as well, right near the freezing mark. the headlines this morning, we'll have icing ending by mid morning. then a warmer afternoon. then a look at that weekend storm. that's coming up. danella, any accidents? >> no, pretty quiet in the area. that's great news. in the first 4 traffic center, i am tracking construction that's blocking down south -- blocking southbound lanes. this is route 29, lee highway. it's shut down at north lexington street.

that's going to last until about 5:00 a.m. no delays, though, in the area. your alternate route if you're leaving soon is north yorktown boulevard. now, out to i-66, looks great. i'm not getting any report of accidents or delays outside the beltway on 66 or inside. aaron and eun? >> thank you. as tom just told us, many of you are waking up to ice this morning. the region is covered in a layer of ice. take a look at this video from last night in frederick county, maryland. ice was already coating the sidewalks and roadways last night as people were prepping for the storm. news4's melissa mollet is live in frederick tracking road conditions. what's it like out there where you are? >> reporter: good morning. i can tell you that county roads aren't quite as good as the state roads. you can see in front of our truck, we are right off of 85, next to francis scott key mall, if you're familiar with the area. we have seen plows, we have seen salt trucks out today. also last night, as well. in all, i think meteorologists

are talking a quarter inch to 1/3 of an inch accumulation in frederick county. we stayed here overnight because we were nervous about getting up here this morning, making sure everybody was safe. i'm glad we did. i can tell you the parking lot of our hotel was a mess. areas like that, sidewalks, bridges that freeze quickly obviously going to be kind of a mess for people this morning. we went to a gas station this morning to talk with folks and see how the drive has been. one guy works for ewing oil in hagerstown. he said the roads, it depends where you are. take a listen. >> i've been out since about 7:00 last night. and down around the beltway, pretty good most of the roads. once i got to germantown, it started getting slushy here and there. i haven't been west. what it's like. >> reporter: right now, back live. we just took a right, we're headed back on the back side of the mall.

this perhaps you can see some of the salt actually, where it has been treated. you see a tiny bit of snow, a little slush, and icy patches. so again, just be careful. be smart when you head out. back to you. >> melissa mollet in our driving cam. let's check in with her later. if you are hoping to catch a flight this morning, you can expect potentially frustrating experiences at airports. a live look at reagan national. we just check in with flightaware.com. there are 65 canceled flights. about the same number at dulles and about 30 scrapped at bwi this morning. nationwide, more than 1,900 flights are canceled. it's only 4:00 a.m. as always, call your airline ahead of time. reference your flight's tail number so you know if you have to leave the house. for some of you this will be a second day of trying to catch a plane. we found frustrated flyers at dulles after they learned they wouldn't be leaving town. many had to crash in the airport or try to find a hotel last night. >> i am totally disgusted.

just totally disgusted. other option is to take an amtrak train. >> reporter: >> dulles and reagan say they pretreated runways, but they expect impacts from the storm could last through at least noon. from roads to airport conditions to the latest school cancelations, stay up to date with our "news4 today" app. download it in the apple app store. 4:05. new this morning, the sheriff is looking interest a police-involved shooting in queen anne's county. it happened before 10:30 last night along white marsh road in the centreville area of maryland. the sheriff says when deputies arrived, they found a person with a gun. we're still working to find out what exactly happened. one person was injured. no officers were hurt. we'll bring you more information as we learn it. d.c. police need your help identifying two men suspected in an armed robbery in the district. take a look at the surveillance video just released. police say the two men walked in to rose's liquors on bladensburg

road in northeast back on december 28th. police say one man had a gun. the video shows one of the robbers jumped over the counter and grabbed money from the cash register. the two then took off. if you recognize the men in the video, call d.c. police. molette green is at the live desk with breaking news. >> we're getting details about a new wave of deadly bombings in baghdad this morning. some of them exploding right near heavily secured areas where you'll find key government offices. you're looking at some video just in to the newsroom this morning from central iraq. right now we know at least 16 people lost their lives in these attacks. the deadliest came outside the foreign ministry building when two car bombs exploded at the same time, killing seven there and wounding at least 15. no group has claimed responsibility. experts in the area say these kinds of coordinated bombings have the markings of al qaeda in iraq. that's the latest from the live desk. back to you. she spent nearly four decades on the run.

maybe a little above freezing in southern maryland, northern neck, and the eastern shore. checking in now on how much icing we've had so far and the impact, chuck bell joins us now live on the storm team 4 weather deck. >> reporter: good morning, everyone. outside here, there's a little coating on just about everything. i'll ask our director to pan down to my prop, my chair. there's a little glazing of ice right here on the chair. doesn't look like a lot. it looks like it's just wet, but i assure you, those are icicles coming off the bottom. this is all glazed up. ice accumulations here are generally .1 inch or less in the metro area. we've seen more north and west. here's the computer model generation of how much more ice accumulation we should be expecting on our max one computer. so far only .1 to.25 in most locations. as we continue through the morning, another patch to the north and west could add .1 inch more toward montgomery county,
