nine people are in the hospital after a carbon monoxide leak. >> yeah, this is at westin hotel just north of the airport. >> news4's darcy spencer joins us live at the scenes with the latest. darcy, are they still keeping people out of the hotel? >> reporter: right now people are not allowed to go back into the hotel to stay because all of the utilities have been turned off. but they are being allowed to go in, you can see here, some people going in to retrieve some of their belongings as well as some of their pets. people travel with pets nowadays. but they have to come back out. as you said, nine people were transported from the hotel here this afternoon after dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide were detected here. i'm told that eight of the nine people are hotel employees, and many of them worked in the laundry room. and that's where they believe that the source of this carbon monoxide poisoning is. four of the victims were taken to shock trauma in baltimore. their injuries are considered to

be serious. fortunately, everyone is expected to be okay. now, the fire department here in anne arundel county had to evacuate the entire building, all seven floors. some people were here. other people were not here at the time. they came back to find out that they couldn't go inside their hotel room. and we spoke to one patron who said he is now trying to figure out what his next steps will be. >> i'm from illinois, and i'm here for the weekend, and just came back from church and couldn't get into the hotel. so we're trying to figure out now where do we go. >> reporter: all your stuff is there? >> all the things are there, and they haven't been able to communicate to tell us where do we go or do we book ourselves into another hotel. >> reporter: so there is a lot of confusion and a lot of concern for people who were staying here at the westin hotel. but as i said, it has been evacuated. people are being allowed to go in and get some of their things and come back out. unfortunately, we're around the airport. so there are hotels right across the street there is a sheraton.

some people are making arrangements to stay at another hotel. nine people transported here today, four of them in serious condition. reporting from linthicum, maryland, darcy spencer, news4. right now snow flurries are falling across parts of our area. it's the first of two snow chances before the big warm-up. meteorologist tracking it all from storm center 4. >> well, chris, we'll continue to see scattered light snow or flurries until 11:00 tonight. the good news, little or no accumulation from the snow we're seeing tonight. you can see on the radar even some rain mixing in down towards areas like fredericksburg and len mastercardtown. again, this activity only sticks around until 11:00 p.m. and it does remain scattered in nature. now on tuesday, this is when our second round of snow arrives. snow is likely tuesday morning. i'm also tracking the chance of some freezing rain mixing in. this event, as quickly as it arrives, it is gone by midmorning. here you can see with future

weather, snow arrives around 1:00 a.m. tuesday. it continues until 5:00 a.m. unfortunate timing right during the morning rush. by 8:00, 10:00 a.m., it starts to pull away from the area and then we break out into sunshine on tuesday. this storm system, chris, it's not about accumulation amounts. how much snow you could see timing up. just about the timing. i'll have more on this storm system and a look ahead to president's day in about 15 minutes. >> thanks, amelia. feral holiday like amelia , a said. some of you students are going to be going to school to make up for all the time off in maryland, charles, and st. mary's counties will hold classes on monday. so will fairfax and frederick counties and fredericksburg schools in virginia. some school districts are even thinking about adding time to tend of the school day or even cancelling recess to make up for all the lost time. police are looking for a possible serial robber in loudoun county. investigators want you to see

this sketch of the suspect. they think the same man is responsible for at least four robberies in sterling. the most recent one friday night in the stanford square area. police say the suspect approached a woman, showed a gun, and demanded her wallet. a similar incident was reported last week. there were two other cases in december. in each case, the victims were women. d.c. police tell us two people were rushed to the hospital after getting hit by a taxi cab. it happened around 2:00 this morning nearby connecticut avenue and calvert street. police say one of the pedestrians was critically hurt. the cabdriver did stay on the scene, but investigators won't say what company he worked for, and no sclarjs been filed. okay. so if you were watching this game yesterday morning, it was early, you did not need a cup of coffee to wake you up. was it a lucky break or was it a dirty trick? there is new controversy tonight over that thrilling hockey game betwee the u.s. and russia. >> yeah. what would have been the go ahead goal by the russians was disallowed because the net was

not in place. jason pugh is here with what team russia is now saying about it. >> they're not happy about this. team usa's win over russia is one of the more memorable moments in the olympic games. but some players for russia are blaming the officials for yesterday's loss. this was the play that had the russian team upset and searching for answer. third period, the game is tied at two. you can see the right goalpost here. it gets dislodged when jonathan quick jumped into it. a few seconds later, russia scored the go-ahead goal to have it not count because the goalpost was moved. united states went on to win this game, and the russians, as you can imagine, were not happy about this. here is what had to say about this play and the play of jonathan quick. quote. i can tell you myself because i'm his teammate and i play with him it isn't his style to do something like that. alex ovechkin said, quote, the ref should have counted the goal. nobody from our team touched the goal. the goalie moved the net, end

one person was seriously hurt in this crash today in sterling, virginia. state police say the minivan and jeep collided around 12:30 at the intersection of relocation drive and pacific boulevard, just north of dulles airport. it's still not clear who was at fault or what led to the crash. both those roads have reopened. we're still waing for autopsy results on the body of a man who was found in the wheel well of a plane at dulles airport. ground crewmembers found the body yesterday afternoon. it was in the wheel well of a south african airways jet. the man has not been identified. someone hacked a popular online fundraising site, but so far kickstarter says it's only discovered two customer accounts with unauthorized transactions. hackers stole personal information from the site like user names, e-mail addresses and phone numbers. but kickstarter says hackers did not get the credit card information. it announced the breach yesterday and sent a notice to

they called for help around 6:30 last night when the boat started taking on water. the coast guard sent a chopper out, and the crew managed to pull them to safety, one by one. despite the risky ordeal, no one was hurt. the snow and salt, bitter cold and breaks of warm weather, they're really taking a toll on our roads. potholes are popping up across the district. news4's derek ward has a look at how drivers are dealing with all the craters in the road. >> reporter: there are little ones and really big ones, like this one on fillmore street in arlington. so big it's become a neighborhood legend. people have mental maps of the location so they can avoid them. >> there is quite a few, especially down this street down here. >> reporter: and they're the ones that you can't even see yet, sinister forces at work right now beneath the road surface that will in coming weeks open up to become craters like this one on connecticut avenue. and there is roadside debris th into contact with that massive pothole.

we know at least one lincoln and one toyota. ever since our first big snowfall this year, they've been a problem. this one was filled earlier this month on the clara barton parkway, but not before it had taken a toll on half a dozen predawn commuters. >> all of the sudden my car hitting the front end, back tire on the right-hand side of my vehicle. >> reporter: still, there those who want to embrace potholes. >> i'm a chef and i want to fill wit rainbow sprinkles. >> in d.c. they pride themselves on interventions with potholes. next month they'll begin the annual potholepalooza. they have already filled about 5,000 so this year. >> ouch. hurts to even watch that d.c. department of transportation says it filled 3200 potholes last month. now, we're only halfway through february, and they have already filled another 2500 this month. the agency tries to philpott holes within three days of being notified. for information on how to report potholes in your area and what to do if your car has b

until 11:00 tonight. after, that it is dry, and the clouds clear out. so temperatures, well, they're really going to drop quickly late tonight. right now it's actually not too bad outside. 36 in washington. right at freezing in camp springs and leesburg. 28 right now in gaithersburg. but, again, once those clouds clear, this is where we'll drop tonight. a low in washington of 24 degrees. 19 for a low in la plata. 15 for those of you in frederick. so tomorrow morning president's day, it will be a cold start. but the good news, plenty of sunshine to start your monday. no precip, rain or snow in the forecast for tomorrow during the daytime hours. 10:00 a.m. still plenty of sun around. the temperature around 30 degrees. a high tomorrow of 38. so we're going to be near 40. however, for this time of year, that is still below where we typically would be. 6:00 tomorrow evening, we're dry. but skies will cloud up. temperatures at that point will be in the low 30s. snow then arrives very late

monday, right around 1:00 a.m. on tuesday. and it will come to an end by 9:00 a.m. on tuesday. you can see the amounts here. well, they're not very impressive. the northernmost parts of montgomery county and loudoun and frederick and washington in maryland pick up 1 to 3 inches from the system tuesday morning. most of the d.c. metro area, most of northern virginia, down through the northern neck and southern maryland, you just see a dusting to maybe two inches. what is unfortunate about this system, well, it's the timing. it's right during the morning rush. look at the high on tuesday. 47 degrees. so you're saying how are we seeing snow? well, we're seeing snow during the early morning hours when temperatures at that point are around 30. so that morning commute, this system is going to have a moderate impact on that. i think ere could be some school delays just because of the timing of it. school cancellations, i really don't see that happening with this storm system. by the time the evening commute comes around, we are going to be

just fine. and look what happens on wednesday. a high temperature, 58 degrees. mostly to partly sunny skies. some good news. thursday a high of 56. friday a high temperature around 60. some rain is looking likely on friday. next weekend, high temperatures will likely be in the low to mid-50s, erika and chris. >> thanks amelia. hats off for the usa hockey team. >> that's right. plus, a new man in town for ♪

kessel had the natural hat trick. three goals in a row, including this one off the rebound. usa wins 5-1. they move on to quarterfinals on wednesday. against the win over the czech runner-up and slovakia. russia needed another shoot-out today against slovakia. kovalchuk provided the game winner. they advance to qualification play-offs against norway on tuesday. all right. let's talk a little baseball. it's been a while since we said that. spring training is under way for the nationals, and this year's team has a different look and feel to it. mainly because of their first year manager matt williams leading the way as opposed to davey johnson. while the players are getting familiar with williams, he settled into his new role as the team's skipper. >> it's different. it's new. in my previous role of being the third base coach and infield coach, i had multiple roles, but nothing like this. it's good, though. i look at it as a challenge and i embrace it. >> he is business.

>> what happened to the season? >> they were doing okay this season. give them some credit now. speaking of the all-star game in new orleans, it will take place tonight. and john wall, he'll take the court as the slam-dunk champion this year. if last night was any indication of what the future looks like for the wizards, wall, along with his teammate bradley beal reminded fans the future is still very bright for the wiz kids. bill is not an all star in this game, won't be playing in it tonight. but he did participate in the three-point shoot-out contest. he showed off all season long. so why not show it off again last night. he finished in second place after falling in the finals. last night belonged to mr. wall. magic johnson said wall brought back the dunk contest. the guard became the first wizard in history to win the slam-dunk. pretty movie considering wall didn't even practice the winning dunk that much. >> it was only my second time doing the dunk. my first time was on thursday.
