11:14 pm
>> reporter: health officials say infections from nail salons are very rare, but they do happen. maryland, d.c., and virginia each get anywhere from 30 to 45 complaints each year for things like unsanitary conditions and infections. but that's out of hundreds of salons. that number could be much higher, though, since many complaints are never reported. >> it's scary to realize that from a minor incident, minor break in the skin, minor trauma to a nail can be an entry point for a dangerous bacteria. >> reporter: melissa, regional manager for elizabeth arden red door salon said people should be extra observant at their salon. look closely at cleanliness. you shouldn't see nail clips or file dust on the ground or at workstations. stainless steel bowls for cleaning feet can be safer than whirlpool tubs. that's because bacteria can get caught in the hoses of the tubs

chip card. metro access riders could be paying 30 cents more. parking at metro lots could go up by 25 cents for most stations. but it would be 50 cents more in prince george's county since parking there is cheaper than at other stations in the system. those increases would take effect in july. we're still waiting to learn more details from united airlines about a flight that declared an emergency before landing at dulles airport this evening. chopper 4 flew over the scene after the plane came in from st. louis, missouri. airport officials said there was a mechanical problem on board. there were reports that a door opened up or came off the underside of the plane. that plane landed safely, and nobody on board was hurt. president obama today talked about his past drug use and mistakes that he has made. the candid comments came during a speech about his newest initiative. >> i didn't have a dad in the house. and i was angry about it, even though i didn't necessarily realize it at the time.
11:17 pm
i made bad choices. i got high without always thinking about the harm that it could do. >> that's part of the reason the president is launching a program called my brother's keeper. it aims to improve opportunities for young men of color to businesses, philanthropies and local governments. president obama said the country has become numb to the disproportionate rates of poverty and prison time facing minorities. doug is back with more about this bitter cold that is coming back at us. >> the bitter cold and the storm that we have coming up during the day on monday. and this bitter cold is just that bitter for sure. and a lot of you may have noticed, it's not just the cold. we had a meteor out there earlier. >> do we have any pictures? >> we do not have pictures. but you can think about it. no, i didn't see it. 7:08. it was right when i was right here. but it was quite amazing. well got ohio to south carolina, right up towards our area reported that they saw that meteor. across our region, we saw it in
11:18 pm
that southwestern sky a little earlier tonight. the next couple of days, though, what will be falling from the sky will be a lot different from that. we have some snow and some ice coming. 23 degrees the current temperature. the wind out of the north at 23 miles per hour. the wind will calm as we move on through the overnight hours. right now if you're out and about, especially in an open area, look at the windchill. down to 7 in the d.c. metro area. hagerstown the windchill at 3 below because you're temperature is down to 12. 19 in leesburg and manassas. 16 in gaithersburg. these are the numbers we're going to see go down by another 5 to 10 degrees. so it is going to be a very cold start to your friday morning. these lows down to 16 in d.c. 10 in leesburg. 9 in gaithersburg and 10 in manassas. these are not the windchills. these are the overnight low temperatures. so the windchills will be very close to where they are right now when you wake up early tomorrow mornings even with a 5 to 10 miles per hour wind. storm team 4 radar is clear. it's going to stay that way for the next couple of days. we're not expect anything rain or snow friday or saturday.
11:19 pm
sunday, that's when we're going to see that move in. because of the storm system that is well off to the northwest. right now we have clear skies. those clear skies will allow temperatures to continue to cool, once the winds begin to die down. but the storm that is going to be making its way our way is right now coming ashore in towards parts of los angeles, down towards portions of california. they have seen a major drought. 2013, theirriest year ever. they're apparently about to pick up 2 inches of rain. look at the storm wrap itself up right here. we're going to see a piece down toward the south, move our way. it's going to move across the southern tier, pick up some moisture. with that at the same time, cold air moves in. we're talking more arctic air moves in during monday. i think this should start off as rain sunday night, and then transition to a mixture of snow and ice across the area. and we're looking at a high impact event. this is becoming more and more likely. i really think monday is going to be a nasty day for that potential of ice and snow. who is going to get what? still way too early to say.
11:20 pm
but right now the d.c. metro area goes from a little bit of rain over the a lot of ice potentially, and then ending with accumulating snowfall. if you're north and west, frederick, hagerstown, you may see another big snowstorm. we'll continue to watch this storm over the next couple days. high temperature tomorrow only 28. that could be a record low high temperature for the day. 43 degrees on saturday. we rebound. look at this. 54 on sunday before our next storm system moves in. then the rain showers move in late sunday. the cold air starts to move. in a high of only 35 degrees on monday with that mix again. rain, snow, athlete, depending where you are. we're going to hone this forecast in over the next couple days. and on tuesday, that arctic air, it's really in place with a high of 29 on tuesday. 34 on wednesday, going up to a high of 45 degrees on thursday. so we are talking some -- not just bitter cold, but we're talk about the month of march starting off, what do they say? it comes in like a lion.
11:21 pm
and that's exactly what mother nature plans to do. first day of march on saturday. and it looks like the second day. >> so if i'm on berkeley springs, i may not be able to get to work risks you that up? >> plan ahead so you can be here with all of us on monday. >> that's right you. might not want to go. coming up, john wall and the
