church road. you'll see one lane getting you by the accident there. i'm back at 6:11. coming up, restoration crews working to get a springfield apartment back open after it was damaged by a fire. it broke out last night on backlike road. two people were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. another 45 people have been displaced from their homes because of damage. the fire reportedly started in the first floor of that building. 6:02 is the time. this morning, two new unsolved homicides in the district. and both happened within hours of each other. someone shot an 18-year-old on hally terrace in southeast in the bellevue area. less than three hours later, a woman was shot to death on j street in northeast off kenilworth avenue. in the most recent case, the woman shot was alive when officers arrived on the scene. that was around 8:30 last night. then after news4 at 11:00 last night, d.c. police told us she

at the hospital. this morning, no word of an arrest. now to the teen shot and killed in southeast. police say the 18-year-old was standing on hally terrace near danbury street when someone shot him in the neck. this was right before 6:00 yesterday. he also died at the hospital. many people told news4 they want the gun violence to stop, especially when it involves younger victims. >> we're losing our babies. you know, parents, grandparent, we're not supposed to bury them. it's getting terrible. the latest shootings mark 21 homicides in d.c. this year. it is only february. at this point last year, d.c. had 12 homicides on the books. 2013 ended with 104 homicides in the district. montgomery county police looking for a missing kensington teenager. this is 16-year-old shayla marie franklin. she's been missing since mid-december. officials say she was last seen on connecticut avenue near denfield avenue.

police say franklin does have a medical condition which needs to be monitored if you have information about her disappearance, you're asked to call montgomery county police. 6:04. a person is lucky to be alive after escaping a fast-moving fire. it was a two-alarm fire that broke out in the 4400 block of c street southeast in washington last night. the flames were so intense firefighters had to douse the fire from the outside. this home has extensive damage. no won was hurt, though. today family and friend will say good-bye to a naval academy midshipman who was killed in a car accident. the naval academy hosts the funeral today for max allen. allen crashed his car into a creek on the academy grounds in anne arundel county earlier this month. he was set to graduate this may. at noon today, he'll be remembered at a funeral at the naval academy's main chapel before a procession and burial at the academy cemetery. 6:04. a defective door might be to blame for an emergency landing at dulles airport. the united airlines plane was flying in from st. louis,

missouri, yesterday afternoon. toward the end of the flight, the crew started experiencing problems with the plane's door. there were reports it opened up or came off the underside of the plane. the pilots were able to land safely, and no one was hurt. a potential pilot shortage could soon make it more difficult to get a sattelite flight to smaller -- a plate to smaller cities. the government accountability office says 11 of 12 regional airlines were not able to meet hiring target last year. on top of that, airlines will need to hire up to 4,5 hun hu00 per year for the next ten years to keep up with a surge of retirements and increased air travel. no major airlines have had hiring problems, but they pay significantly more than regional carriers. today law enforcement officials in connecticut will be testify being mental health and school security. this is parts of a sandy hook commission -- is part of a sandy hook commission meeting. officials will outline their policies on incident management during a crisis. consumer advocates will also speak today about managing donations in the aftermath of a
