reagan national, 18. prince george's county, 9 degrees. the big weather story this morning, we are dealing with slippery travel. we have a lot of the schools still closed. the entire region, many roads are snow covered with these subfreezing temperatures. also icy sidewalks and icy steps and a cold day today. afternoon high temperatures, many locations make it to near freezing. and parts of north central virginia may hit the mid-30s. but we do have a milder weekend on tap. that's going to be moving in and giving us a feeling of spring. saturday aught to make it to the mid-50s. on sunday, might get a few sprinkles in the morning, otherwise partly sunny with highs on sunday into the low 50s. we still have many snow covered streets. and now traveling around is chuck bell in northwest. good morning, chuck. >> reporter: good morning, tom. current temperature here on

nebraska avenue in northwest washington, we are at 13.9 degrees. so it is cold outside this morning. check some of the local road temperatures and roadbed temperatures in the single digits to near 10 degrees this morning. the roads, depends on which road you're on. the road out here in front of us is nebraska avenue here in northwest washington. it is a mile from the tv station as we start our morning out and about. we'll do increasing radii away from the district, but this is just off nebraska avenue. all of a sudden, everything is changing. this is one big sheet of ice out here in this neighborhood. we are on 38th street here off nebraska. there are ruts in the road where people have driven before, so it's a mixed blessing.

it has packed the snow down to ice. this all started yesterday morning. if you feel like you are losing your traction, get over to the krup chi parts on the side, but you extra caution. i have a funny feeling that danella is going to be busy today. i have the same feeling. like you saw in chuck's camera, it is hit or miss. the main roads are looking good. the side streets are tricky. start in northwest with an alert, d.c. police are tweeting out about manhole covers missing. also, florida is closed at connecticut avenue. again, that's because of missing manholes. now we'll head over to i-95 northbound, prince william parkway. you are seeing a lot of pavement, right? prince william parkway is seeing nothing but snow-covered, crunchy sleet and ice. give yourself extra time this morning. back over to you guys. thank you, danella.

4:04. we are following breaking news in silver spring, montgomery county are investigating a murder on laughlin lane. >> reporter: i'll step out of the way here and you can see laughlin lane shut down with the command center set up and quite a few officers on scene. around 10:30 police received a phone call saying they heard a gunshot. they came to this home where they found a man dead from an apparent gunshot wound. as all that was happening, there was another incident that happened at a local hospital. another person showed up there suffering from a gunshot wound. police say they have been able to tie the person at the hospital back to laughlin lane's address, but they are not saying much else at this point.

they are also saying they are talking to individuals, won't specify what the connection is between the people they are interviewing now and what happened at this address, so very early in this investigation, not a lot of information released at this point, but still an active scene here. we are told that police brought canines out here, they were also looking at footprints in the snow and that was all part of the evidence collection here. we are waiting to get an update and will bring you the latest as soon as we get it. reporting live, megan mcgrath, back to you. bus services will be offering limited service this morning. metroaccess service is restored at noon today. metro rail service will operate on a regular weekday schedule. and you can take marc and vre in and out of the city with full

dramatic drop in temperatures. a record cold morning means roads out there are icy. many still covered with snow. storm team 4 by 4 is out on the roads to let you know how things are before you go out. crews are still trying to clear the snow and ice off the major roads in virginia. this is a look at a crash in richmond. virginia state police responded to more than 1100 crashes across the commonwealth in a 12 1/2-hour period yesterday. we checked with vdot and they are treating primary roads in 12-hour shifts. they are waiting for the temperature to reach 15 degrees to apply salt to the roads. >> a lot of spots coming in were still very slippery caked down with snow and ice making it a problem on the roads right now. let's get the forecast now from tom kieran. >> that's a live view of reagan national, that's one of the warm spots in the upper teens. as we look at the live view from our storm team 4 skywatcher cameth
