5:57. right now at 6:00 a.m. many of you could see freezing rain or a wintry mix in the next few hours. spotsylvania and stafford county will open two hours late. we're tracking when this huge distance could arrive on our storm team 4 radar. plus, a campaign scandal. the plea deal we expect to see today that could answer many questions about d.c. mayor vincent gray's 2010 run for office. >> and three unsolved murders in alexandria may be the work of the same killer. the police chief has a warning he wants everyone in that city to hear this morning. first, though, storm team 4 meteorologist tom getting you ready to head out on this friday morning. tom. >> i am tracking some rain and some icing and some snow. the rain is the area in green coming into the northern neck of virginia. the icing is a little bit of sleet and freezing rain. it's still well south of fredericksburg. heats in the pink area. in the gray area farther west

a little bit of very light snow. it is creeping to the north, and it's just now crossing the title potomac. a little sprinkle activity. weather watcher there right on the bay in the northern neck. i not quite reaching the ground there. there is a little bit of some of the icing here beginning to reach the ground farther west in this pink zone. just south of king george. it is moving off to the north. should be near fredericksburg at about 45 minutes. then crossing the title potomac. the southern batch should be in southern charles county as well in about 45 minutes. around 6:45 this morning. low clouds over washington now sunrise. 6:32. the live view from our shadow watcher camera. by 8:00 that light mix to our south and still hovering around 30 degrees. mid 30s by noontime. rain south and east mainly during the afternoon. have an umbrella with you, though. could get a little light rain in the metro area too midday into the afternoon. now not seeing any increase in our traffic this morning. >> that's right, tom. that's because of two incidents. first we will start with i-95

traveling northbound near joplin road. here's that accident we were just talking about. now, reportedly multiple vehicles i can tell you that the -- police are saying it's just property damage. no injuries reported. folks are getting by on the right side of the roadway, but it is causing a delay. back over into pennsylvania avenue. the left lane still blocked by a broken down car. delays -- here's your drive time so far. approaching that broken down car, you're under speed at about 19 miles per hour. you're not -- you are slow. again, once you pass that car and continuing into the district, lanes are open. no delays. aaron. >> thank you. 6:02 is your time. today we expect the man at the center of the d.c. mayor vincent gray campaign scandal to reach a plea deal with federal prosecutors. a lawyer involved in the case confirmed to us that the deal involving businessman jeffrey thompson is in the "final

stages." news 4 richard jordan is live outside the wilson building with more. richard. big implications on the future of mayor vincent gray, whether or not he keeps his office here at the wilson building, and whether or not the re-election campaign he is in, jeffrey thompson is a close associate of the mayor. a d.c. businessman. he was said to be the mastermind behind that 2010 shadow campaign that generated $650,000. now, he is also in the final stages of the deal. part of the deal has not been released as far as what it means, what are the specifics of this deal. however, it is believed that whether or not the mayor had anything to do with the shadow campaign is expected to come out. the future of the mayor is in thompson's hands. he could clear him of any wrong doing. what the mayor has said all along, he had nothing to do with this, or he could implicate the mayor. all that remains to be seen. thompson would be the latest in more than half a dozen people to reach a deal with the attorney's office pleading guilty in exchange for avoiding a trial.

now, listen to what the mayor had to say last night when he was asked about the potential plea deal. >> mr. mayor, your reaction to a potential plea deal for thompson? >> well, actually i don't know anything about it, gentlemen. i guess we could speculate about tshg but i really don't know anything about it. >> that was the mayor speaking at a campaign event yesterday. he is now in another campaign his re-election campaign and that democratic primary is on april 1st. now, attorneys say things appear to be in the final stages. however, they warn that negotiations could fall apart and things -- we'll be keeping on top of this throughout the day. reporting live at the wilson building, richard wilson. >> thompson could be the ninth person to face charges in connection to a legal campaign funds in the building in the 2010 election. the nbc washington app, download

it on your smartphone. >> we can get a look at how the d.c. fire department has been performing. a d.c. conditions committee will hold -- as well as other city agencies. police are extending an amber alert possibly kidnapped by her father. west virginia state police now also looking for 11-year-old katilyn and her fair timothy. detectives believe this is all linked to the murder of katilyn's mother. police found her dead in her home yesterday morning. two other children were there as well. they were not hurt. timothy was living at that home despite a court order for him to stay away from the children. police believe he is driving a 1999 dodge durango with maryland license plate number 5aj 4458. a new gun bill is on its way to virginia. governor terry mcauliffe, brendan's law, cracks down on people who fire weapons in the air during a celebration like new year's eve or the fourth of july. virginia state senate passed the

law last night. the house already approved it. the bill is named after 7-year-old brendan mackey. he died on the way to a fourth of july fireworks show last year. we now know the name of the man killed in this crash in brentwood. he was 54-year-old james green from northwest washington. prince georges county police say green lost control of his car on 38th street and splamd into a pole at rhode island avenue. detectives say that green was speeding at the time. it still may not be safe to drink the water in parts of d.c. if you live or work in the yellow part of this map, you are under a boil water advisory. later today, d.c. water will receive the test results of the most recent samples which will determine whether the water is safe again. the water may have been contaminated during a power outage at the reno pumping station. d.c. water says the boil alert is just a precautionary move. investigators now say there is a link between three alexandria murders spanning ten years. the important warning the police chief has for everyone in the

right now it's 6:07. welcome back. almost half of all americans have filed their taxes for this year. according to the irs those people who have filed saw some good news too. there is a 3% increase in refunds this year with the average take-home being about $3,000. the survey done by the irs showed that most people plan to use their refunds to pay off bills. 6:10 now. despite temperatures in the 30s right now, another principaling is right around the corner. this weekend is daylight-savings time. you'll need to set your clock

tom here with your weather and traffic on the 1 stzs. what's going on? >> all cloudy and cold. here an hour ago i said that fredericksburg would see the first of the steady freezing rain in this wintry mix. it is arriving now. 6:40 this morning. 6:41. leading edge of it in the fortunately of a little bit of snow in this very narrow gray and white band. south thereof the pink band is a little bit of sleet, and farther south of there down 95 towards richmond, it is freezing rain. it is advancing to the north. it's all very light rain. the northern neck of virginia coming into southern maryland. here are the new arrival times. fredericksburg right now, and into southern charles county around 7:10 this morning. it should be up to qauntico around 7:30, into prince william county, and then lowers to 8:00 it will be near waldorf, charles county. most of this can be passing south and east of the metro area. warmer weekend and a mild pattern coming. a look at that next weather and traffic. 6:51. another good morning. how are the delays now? oo
