fist tonight, a two-alarm fire destroys the homes of two families in montgomery county. darcy, what's it like out there right now? >> reporter: chris, we're on club lake road in montgomery county. as we pan in and push into the scene here, you can see it's still a very active investigation and here's why. the flames broke out around 2:00 this afternoon in an unoccupied townhouse. numerous neighbors tell me that the person or people who had been living there had been recently evicted and investigators are trying to determine, does that have anything to do with how this fire started in that's cell phone video -- shot that video, and you can see that the flames are just incredible, shooting up into the sky as well as some trees. now one townhouse, where it

started, it spread to a second townhouse, that townhouse was also unoccupied, but there was a third townhouse that was also damaged, fortunately the people who lived there were able to get out okay. let's hear now from the young man who shot that cell phone video. >> we came up and saw the whole house on fire, the tree caught on fire, then the whole back is gone. >> the house was very, very well involved when we got here and the 911 calls confirmed that as we were on our way, the townhouse is well involved in fire. >> so investigators are still here on the scene, interviewing neighbors and witnesses trying to figure out exactly how the fire started, trying to figure out a timeline of when exactly it started and as we said, one of the townhouses did have people living there, eight people, fife adults and three children, we're told they are now being assisted by the red cross. reporting from montgomery

village, darcy spencer. >> a deadly car crash that killed two people. investigators tell us three cars crashed in the eastbound lanes east of mt. zion road. two had to be -- it took police several hours before they could reopen that stretch of highway. d.c. police need your help to identify the man who sexual assaulted and kidnapped a woman in northeast. the attack happened around 11:00 in the morning last week, and investigators say the suspect is in his 20s with a slim build and a dark goatee, anybody with information about his whereabouts should contact d.c. crime stoppers. tonight police are searching for a man who shot a convenience store clerk in the head. derek ward discover the clerk is expected to survive. >> reporter: it was quick, without warning. >> there were no adversarial

interactions between the two. it was a surprise to her, i think. >> reporter: she was shot twice in the head and she secure vifed. >> we do have some good screen shots of the system's face, so we're hoping that we'll be able to identify this person in short order. >> reporter: the video can't show how devastating those shots were, not only to the victim, but to those who know her. >> people that you're blood related to, but it's your community and your work environment. >> he could have taken all of e m i tt cash register and all of the products out of that store and it's still not worth taking an innocent life. and he fully intended to do just that. >> reporter: folks are stopping by asking what they can do, and we're told there will be a collection jar set up inside to help with some of the medical expenses. >> i mean they could two a few things to make it safer to just have one person.

that's up to them. >> as for now, a it's up to spotsal vaina law enforce. >> it's apparent h has no compunction whatsoever about shooting people. >> this is making me have a second look at things and how i view the world. >> derek ward, news4. meantime, prince william county police are still trying to track down three men who walked into a grocery store and killed a a clerk. the wood bridge store surveillance video shows them wearing dark clothes with their faces covered. she was working behind the counter last month when she was shot and killed. police are now offering an $11,000 reward. tonight d.c. police have someone in custody after a stabbing inside a nightclub. this is that is light inside club 12 on eighth street in northeast. police tell us a man was stabbed and taken to the hospital. he is expected to be fine and

the person that police arrested was done right there at the scene. >> metro police tell us a violent fight broke out aboard a blue vine train and it spilled out on to the platform. when police got there, officers found two men with stab wounds. both of them will be okay. the stadium armory stop is back open while being closed all night while police investigated. it was a dangerous night overall on board metro. police said there was also a fight on the green line that left one man seriously injured. he got in a fight on the train and now investigators are looking for the two men who were fighting. they're pictured right here. anyone with information should contact metro transit police. now to the latest on that missing malaysian airlines jet. it's been more than 24 hours since the plane disappeared while flying from kuala lumpur

to beijing. now the navy has dispatched a ship to help search the area. some officials think terrorism could be responsible for the jet's disappearance. two people on board the plane used passports that had been stolen from tourists in thailand. the gop faithful are about to wrap up their yearly cpac meeting at national harbor. the conservative political action conference is a three-day event on issues important to conservatives and the republican party. they also conducted a straw poll for 2016 presidential contenders, the results were announced just a few minutes ago, rand paul came in first place, followed by ted cruz and governor chris christie. sarah palin is scheduled to close the event later tonight. new details are emerging tonight on the rescue of an 1-year-old maryland girl. she was the focus of a nationwide manhunt. now baltimore police are giving credit to the owner of a south

carolina motel. they say his use of social media helped find kate lyn virts and her father. the motel owner saw the amber alert on facebook, recognized the two and called police. officers took the father into custody, but kaitlin appears to be unharmed. no one knows why her father took her to that motel in collier county. up next, what happens when even though they didn't pass a budget, and protesters hit the pavement as they try to save a centuries old home from the wrecking ball.

. residents in a chevy chase neighborhood are de -- 100-year-old home in november. today neighbors stood outside of the home on morrisson street to protest the planned demolition. morrison said he still plans to tear the home down and just received a permit from the city. hundreds of women showed up on the mall in force to honor international women's day. they wanted to call attention to

little unfinished business in south carolina tonight. what happens now? julie kerry reports from richmond. >> reporter: just minutes after the gavel fell to end the 2014 session, governor terry mccauliffe picked up a pen to sign an order to call lawmakers back to richmond for a special session later this month. that's because the most important piece of business, the budget is unfinished. the impasse, expanding heavyweig health care coverage for low income people in virginia. >> people are dying because of lack of health care coverage. >> reporter: the governor and senate say medicaid must be expangded now. house republicans stand firmly against it. their solution, strip medication

expansion out of the budget and debate it later. >> what it is is a major, major piece of legislation that they want us to take and just accept. that makes absolutely no sense. >> reporter: the governor says lawmakers need to go back home and reflect. but at least one democratic leader is skeptical that republican minds will change by the time they return. >> this is driven by one thing and one thing only. it isn't medicaid, it's the hate tretd of the man in the white house. they'll sit there and they'll t you, i didn'st geterfr >> reporter: when lawmakers return on march 24, governor mccauliffe says he expects them to need three weeks to resolve the impasse on medicaid and the budget. lawmakers did pass several other important measures today including reform saying they're improving the state's mental health services in response to the attack on senator creigh

deeds. finally, to allow some hunting on sundays. all right, well, it's time to spring forward, finally. we're just hours away from the start of daylight saving time. at 2:00 a.m., all clocks need to move ahead one hour. and if you're riding metro, you better be careful, because when the official time hits 3:00, metro rail will shut down. that means the last trains will be running between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. so, you know, obviously we're going to lose an hour of sleep tonight. but you gain the daylight in the evening. >> well worth it, you got to love that. and you had to love today, our official high temperature at the airport, it was 67 degrees, it was an awesome day. i hope you got outside and enjoyed it. and talking about daylight-saving time, springing ahead, like chris said, that's going to change our sun rise and sunset time. so sun rise tomorrow right around 7:30, and then sunset, we're all looking forward to this. i know chris and i are a lot.

sun set at 7:09, so sure sign spring is right around the corner. also temperatures today, we're trying to shake winter's grip and move into the warmer months. now tomorrow, like i said, it is going to be cooler, but it's still going to be nice, we're going to have plenty of sunshine, highs tomorrow around 50 degrees, in fact for the upcoming week, overall, pleasant temperatures will prevail, four of the seven days will be at or above our average a high, which is now 54 degrees, notice thursday, that will be the coolest day for next week. tuesday being the warmest. wait until you see the numbers on the seven-day, we are looking at range, just rain, not really a great chance of snow on wednesday. temperatures right now, still amazing, 63 in washington, 59 in camp springs, we're at 59 in leesberg, fantastic evening. expect temperatures in the 40s, if you're going out, a light jacket will be just fine.

washington only cools to a low of 39, the suburbs cool to low temperatures in the low to mid 30s. there could be a quick passing shower after midnight tonight and before 6:00 a.m., with this range here, this is a cold front that will be moving through. but by tomorrow morning, you're waking up at 7:00 a.m., it is dry, a temperature of 39 degrees and throughout the day, just beautiful sunshine, a little bit breezy at times for your sunday. 10:00 a.m., we're at 42 degrees, 3:00, that's when we'll hit our high around 50. so we'll be noticeably cooler, but again, all in all, a really nice weekend. for monday, our temperatures rebound quickly. a high temperature on monday of 6 0 degrees, plenty of clouds around, tuesday the warmest day on the seven-day, high of 56, rain arrives on wednesday, mainly late in the day, a high temperature of 54 degrees, as rain comes to an end went night, there could be a little bit of snow mixing in, but we're not looking at any accumulation.
