that breaking news is out of the district. wilson high school was evacuated and now has been closed for the day. the evacuation was ordered after a chemical spill at the wilson aquatic center in the tenley town area. a worker at the pool was injured. mark segraves is live near the scene and has more for us now. mark? >> reporter: barbara, this happened earlier this morning.

i can tell you that a contractor working here at the wilson pool accidentally ruptured an acid line, causing a chemical spill. let's take a look at the pool right now. this is the wilson pool building. inside that building is where the accident happened. we can tell you that the victim, the contractor, was transported to a local hospital, priority one. if we look over to the left, you'll see wilson high school, which is connected to the pool, that school was evacuated. about 20 minutes ago, students were told they could go home for the day. up on that field at ft. reno park, there were hundreds of students. we heard a cheer go out that could have been heard for blocks around when the students got the word they could go home for the day. back here on the scene, you will see the hazmat crews. they have the chemical decontamination set up. that's where they're scrubbing down the hazmat teams going in and out of the wilson pool, trying to contain this spill. i just got off the phone with

council member mary ch emh, weh represents ward 3, said she has instructed the hazmat team to come down here to test the air, water, to see if anyone beyond the complex of the pool and school building will be impacted. again, wilson high school evacuated. students sent home for the day. wilson pool, which has been plagued with problems over the past few years, is once again closed to the public. that's the very latest, reporting live in upper northwest, mark segraves, news4. >> thank you, mark. storm team4 is keeping a close eye on the changing weather. three major headlines. it's warm right now. it could be stormy this afternoon, and it will be down right cold tomorrow. storm team4 meteorologist amelia segal is in for tom kierein and joins us with the first midday forecast. good morning. >> good morning to you, barbara. on storm team4 radar, i'm tracking this storm system that will bring many changes to the

area. first, this spring-like warmth, it will be gone tomorrow, and very windy conditions later today on into tomorrow morning. rain will start to move through the area as we get into the afternoon hours. for the most part, we are dry right now except for showery activity in southern maryland. we're looking at strong winds. a wind advisory will go into effect at 6:00. that runs through 11:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. sustained winds up to 30 miles an hour. gusts around 50 miles an hour. so what does this mn for you? there could be isolated power outages if you drive an suv, you'll notice the winds on the road. again, rain arrives this afternoon on into the evening hours. some scattered storms about a moderate chance of that. barbara, we can't rule out an isolated weak tornado during the early evening hours. and then, we're looking at around a 50-degree temperature drop. i'll have the timing of the rain and when the best chance of dealing with thunderstorms will be coming up in 10 minutes.

>> all right, amelia, thank you. right now, a news conference is just about to get started to update us on the columbia mall shooting. howard county police are expected to have some new information on the investigation. police say they will release details about gunman darion aguilar's actions in the months prior to the shooting. he shot two employees in the zumiez store in january. we'll have an update at 11:30. we're going to go to angie goff, following breaking news out of fairfax county. >> barbara, we have some new information on a stabbing in vienna, virginia, that happened this morning. the investigation under way, here is a map of scene. 2800 block of knollside lane. police saying a man was stabbed and taken to a nearby hospital. we don't know how he's doing as of now. there is a search going on for the attacker.

this, as you can tell, is a town home community, but police telling us there is no threat to the people who live around here. they believe it was an isolated incident. i'm angie goff at the live desk. barbara, back to you. >> thanks, angie. we're trying to find out more about this deadly crash in loudon county. police say this car hit and killed a pedestrian this morning. this was in the intersection of claiborne parkway and wax pool road in ashburn. the driver did stay on the scene. we'll bring you more information as soon as we get it. you can expect delays on the southbound lanes of i-270 frederick, maryland, most of the day. take a look. you can see why. chopper 4 flew over the scene as repairs were being made to a large pothole. state police tell us the repairs complete. richard jordan reports on the many problems the pothole caused this morning. >> reporter: a big traffic tie-up this morning on already typically congested i-270 southbound near route 85. here is the reason why.

this huge pothole right in the middle of the road. you can see it clearly now, but early in the morning, before the sun is out and it is dark, drivers were trying to get across it, and their vehicles couldn't take it. many of them were disabled, about a dozen of them. take a look at the traffic backup from the aerial pictures from chopper 4 early this morning. the left lane southbound on 270 blocked off while crews tried to repair the pothole. then, you also had several vehicles parked along the shoulder waiting for tow trucks to arrive and get them out of the way. that led to backups. three, even four miles deep at some points. now, here is a look at one of the vehicles involved. you can see the front tire took a beating. the driver had to wait for a tow truck or a friend to come and help pull him off the shoulder and get him back on the road. this led to some major delays, taking hours before repair crews

could actually fix the pothole. now, still unclear exactly what the cause was, although we expect that the weather and changing temperatures may have had something to do with it. again, the drivers saying it was so dark, they came upon the pothole, and before they knew it, it was too late to dodge it. reporting in frederick, maryland, richard jordan, news4. new today, we're working to learn what's at the center of a police shooting. it happened at green haven road. prince george's county police were called to the location around 12:45 this morning. soon after, police say an officer exchanged gun fire with a man. the man was hit and the officer was not hurt. so far, police have not said why they were called to that home or what led to the shots that were fired. the man who was shot is expected to be okay. the campaign corruption scandal surrounding d.c. mayor vincent gray isn't stopping him from making public appearances. right now, he's at a groundbreaking in southeast d.c.

news4's derick ward joins us from the skyland town center. derick, did the mayor mention the investigation at all? >> reporter: you might say ease compartmentalizing today. he'll talk about that later. it's about the skyland project. they're under the tent here, and to my left, you can see the shovels. that will be the ceremonial breaking of ground to start the -- talk about this project, and he'll deal with that later. this groundbreaking is for the new skyland town center. it will have a main street feel to it, and it's happening. there will be 400 housing units, about 340,000 square feet of retail space, and it's all going to be anchored by a walmart. and it's due to be complete by 2017. >> there will be 300 construction jobs, and there will be 300 permanent jobs that will be created here. and we hope that 600 of those jobs -- that will be 300 and 300, yes, i went to school, ladies and gentlemen, so i can

add and subtract -- that would be 600 jobs we hope will go to the people of the district of columbia, and hopefully, people, as many as possible, on this east end of the district of columbia. >> reporter: now, this project has spanned about three mayoral administrations. it's gone through a lot of legal morass in the courts about imminent domain and financing, but now it's starting, and they expect it to be done by 2017. the original target date was 2018, 2019. so they're happy about how it has been accelerated. again, once this is over, the mayor will move back into that tent and have his usual weekly press briefing where, of course, the campaign scandal will be top of mind for everyone in there, and we may get some more news about that as that develops. we are live in southeast, derick ward, news4. back to you. >> thank you. and it looks like we have breaking news out of new york city. let's go back to angie goff. >> just in, barbara. new numbers regarding that huge explosion in uptown manhattan.

we want to take you there live now. look at this. chopper 4 giving us a new view of the new york fire department at work after a blast at an east harlem building triggered this collapse. it's hard to see through the smoke. you can see just how intense that smoke is. the billowing cloud there. we're being told it can be seen for miles. 16 people, we are told, were hurt, four of them seriously. 168 firefighters on the ground right now fighting this thing. if you're familiar with the area, this is the corner of east 116th and the popular park avenue. responders have been there for about an hour and a half now. we are getting reports that those buildings nearby, they rattled during all of this, and also a lot of windows in the &háhp &h% photos on social media, people on the ground watching in awe. you can see here a lot of debris all over the place, people picking things up. this happened near a train station. service in the area has been suspended because of the debris that's still on track. back to you. >> angie, thank you.
