murder in colorado. it appears he timed the attack to start with the time of day the columbine shooting started. as for the victims, he chose them at random. pat is outside with more on the gunman's final words. pat. >> reporter: what is the twisted motive in this mall murder case? could it be notoriety? columbia mall killer, darion aguilar posing with the murder weapon in his bedroom. he was seen holding that shotgun in the dressing room of the zumiez store and then he posted it. police won't show you that picture. >> i mentioned the fact he may have been trying to seek notoriety because he took a

picture a minute before he did this. why he did that, i don't know. we won't help him have that notoriety. >> reporter: with that picture, aguilar added these words. i had to do this. on previous days i woke up with anxiety, regret and hope for a better future. this day, i didn't. i woke up felt no emotions or sympathy. i'll have freedom or maybe not. i couldn't care less. we are seeing pictures like we haven't seen before with the murder weapon, on that day of the murder walking around with the shotgun dismantled and concealed in a backpack. getting money from an atm. hanging out at a fast-food restaurant in burtonsville and getting out of a cab at the columbia mall and hanging out at the mall 40 minutes before beginning his shooting spree at 11:14. 11:14, the time of the columbine mass murders in 1999.

aguilar, they say, was obsessed with the columbine crimes. aguilar shot and killed two zumiez employees before he turned this gun on himself. police say they found no connection between aguilar and his victims. police say there's no evidence any else was involved in this murder case. live in columbia, pat collins, news4. >> thank you, pat. there is new information about a police involved shooting in maryland, tonight. this is a picture of the suspect. his name is ricky reed junior. he's in a hospital facing charges tonight. an officer came across what he thought was a suspicious car early this morning on green haven road. the officer told reed to get out of the car. that's when the driver's gun fell to the ground. the officer says that reed refused to put his hands in the air and in fact reached for the weapon and that's when he shot him. the gun was reported stolen from

virginia. there are new developments in that deadly explosion in new york city right now. a dozen people missing after a blast leveled two apartment buildings in east harlem. two women were killed. more than 50 other people were injured. the explosion happened about 9:30 this morning. it was so loud it shattered windows a block away. some people thought it was a bomb and police are looking whether a gas leak might have caused it. we incite you to stay tuned for the report coming up at 6:30. we have breaking news regarding the missing malaysian airliner. >> the children news agency just repo reporting the government has satellite images saturday morning showing suspected debris from that plane described as three floating objects with the largest piece measuring 70 by 70 feet. coordinates show the location

off the southern tip of vietnam, east of malaysia. it's important to note nbc news has no further information about the images or what they may show. also tonight, we're learning what's thought to be the crew's final message. all right, good night. malaysian authorities asked for help today from india to widen the search to the indian ocean. earlier today that search now includes more than 35,000 square miles. we'll have to see what comes from that purported debris spotted by the chinese satellite. that's this latest from the live desk. back to you. secretary of state john kerry will meet with the russian foreign minister on friday in london part of an effort to diffuse the crisis in ukraine before a critical referendum is held there on sunday. in the meantime, president obama just wrapped up a meeting at the white house with ukraine's interim prime minister.
