back. that breaking news tonight is out of arlington county, take a look at this picture a witness took of a two-alarm fire. the house caught fire around 3:30 this afternoon. darcy spencer is live on the scene where we just learned two people did not make it out alive. darcy? >> that's right, chris, let me tell you where we are. this fire happened on the other side of this church. because there are so many fire trucks and hoses, this is as close as we could get right now. but as you said a deputy fire marshall told me just minutes ago, that there are two confirmed fatalities, a little bit earlier, they were telling us that two people were unaccounted for, two people described as being older who did not make it out. in addition to that, a firefighter suffered burns here. heavy smoke and flameses tore through this two-story home on south langley street in arlington. i'm told some of the people in the house got out.

but firefighters are still searching for two older residents who were unaccounted for. one firefighter's hands were burned trying to battle the flames. >> there were at least two explosions on the scene here, we have not identified what the source of those were, right now we have four fire marshals on the scene that are actively investigating but because of the extent of the damage, it's going to take a while to sift through it. >> ricky beaver was at choir practice right next door to the house when it began to burn. >> they said the house is on fire. they said everybody needs to go out. i went outside, and it wasn't the gold honda, it was a silver honda and my truck was on fire. >> my insurance is going to take care of it. like i said. i just really feel bad for the people in there. >> many neighbors and nearby residents came to the scene. some of them know the people who live in the house, who may not have made it out. >> they were nice people, i grew

up with them, so what i know about them, they were all very nice people. >> it's a tragedy, you know, just the thought of seeing this happen, right now i just don't know what to think about it. >> i am told by fire officials that there were five addition m people who were inside the house when the flames broke out. they were able to get out okay. but again, there were two individuals who did not make it out. firefighters did make every effort they could to try to get in and rescue these individuals, but it was very windy today, this was a went driven fire, firefighters did everything they could but they were not able to rescue the two people inside. our other wig story tonight, storm team 4 is tracking more snow, it's hard to believe on a day like this, but in just 24 hours, it could be cold and wet

again. storm team 4 meteorologist amelia siegel is here with a first look. >> good evening, chris, you're right, it's hard to believe, our high today 70 degrees, tomorrow night on into monday, we're going to be dealing with snow, snow that you're going to have to shovel. a winter storm watch is in effect for everybody. this begins tomorrow afternoon and it is going to run through monday afternoon. now snow will arrive tomorrow evening around sun set. the heaviest snow will fall monday morning, during the predawn hours and during that monday morning commute. this is going to lead to slick roads across the area, especially monday morning. let's talk about the timing, 3:00 tomorrow afternoon, we're dry but cloudy, we start to see a wintry mix and snow move in, around 7:00 p.m., snow is inside of the belt way, by about 10:00, 11:00 p.m., it continues monday morning, here we are, 5:00 a.m., heavy snow at times and it is going to accumulate on area roads, noon we're still seeing snow, not as heavy and around 3:00, snow begins to wind down.

coming up in ten minutes, i'll let you know how much snow you can expect in your neighborhood. >> you can be ready for whatever the weather brings, no matter where you are, just use the storm team 4 weather app. tonight we're learning more detail about a car chase and shooting in the district. it started when a federal park police officer spotted a car. it fit the description of one stolen in montgomery county. so around 2:30 morning t officer tried to stop is that jeep, but the driver just took off. park police tell us three of them were shot and had to be rushed to the hospital. it's not clear if the officers shot them or if they shot back. we do know all three are expected to be okay. we want to update you on a story we first reported on monday, police caught a man in manassas who they say climbed into bed with a woman and assaulted here. police arrested jose ruiz on friday, detectives had been

canvassing the neighborhood around prince cole court where the woman lives. police say ruiz came through an unlocked door, got in her bed and raped here. ruiz is charged with assault and burglary. the tension in alexandria is starting to subside. now that a person of interest was arrested in connection to three high profile murders. earlier this week, police took charles severance into custody in west virginia w. it's not clear what role if any severance had in the three murders. derick ward spoke to residents about these latest developments. >> reporter: worth of a possible link and a possible break in the three pronged investigation into three high profile murdered in alexandria has put some local minds at ease, but with a caveat, charles severance is seen here checking into a west

month. and ron kirby's murder in november, still unsolved. >> i hope they catch the person that did it. we're going to bring you the details of this story as it develops. watch for the latest on news4 throughout the weekend. and of course on nbc washington.com. now to the mystery of that missing malaysia airlines jet. police there searched the homes of the pilot and co-pilot today for several hours. police have not said what they are looking for, but they now say all 239 people on board are under scrutiny. earlier in the day, malaysia's prime minister said the plane was deliberately diverted and continued flying for more than six hours after losing contact with the ground. meanwhile day eight of the massive search turned up no signs of the plane or the wreckage. one person in our area has a reason to feel very, very lucky this st. patrick's day weekend. and a community divided over

a lot of people are taking advantage of this gorgeous weather and spending as much time as they possibly can outside. which went by national harbor this afternoon to check on the progress of the capital wheel. crews are hard at work putting the pieces together on this giant ferris wheel. when it's done, it's going to stand 175 a feet tall and at the top, you'll be able to see the mall, the white house and the capital. you'll be able to get inside and get on board starting in may.

this is one of the windy cities most notable st. patrick's day traditions, thousands of people came downtown to watch folks drop green die into the river. they have been doing this for 15 years turning the river green for the holiday. the dye only lasts about eight hours then it goes back to its normal color. i used to live in chicago, and i can tell you it's a beautiful shade of murky brown. a lot of folks in chicago always argue why don't they just keep it green. >> it does look pretty when it's green. >> yes, yes and you've got the spirit in your dress today. >> unfortunately, for your st. patrick's day, it's going to be a snowy stay, we're looking at another winter storm. it's hard to believe we were so mild today, that's going to run through your monday afternoon. a live look outside right now, though, beautiful, chris, look at that, not a cloud in the sky.

wall to wall sunshine, great evening to do something outside, enjoy the weather, enjoy this taste of spring while it lasts because it will go away for a few days. temperatures across the area right now, for the most part, we're in the 60s, 66 in washington, 61 in frederick, 59d in gaithersberg and 64 for those of you in manassas, just a lovely evening. mainly clear skies tonight, that means that temperatures will fall quite a bit. inside of the belt way, lows will be in the 60s, low temperatures around 30, areas like fredericksberg and annapolis, this is the storm system that will be moving in later tomorrow, mainly after sun set, i don't think. it won't be in the form of rainfall, maybe a wintry mix, but that will quickly transition over to snow. for tomorrow, if you have grocery shopping to do tomorrow, during the day is going to be

just fine. 7:00 a.m., partly sunny skies, a temperature of 37 degrees, noon we're at plenty of cloud cover, but still dry, cooler too, 42 degrees at noon, we'll hit a high temperature at 5:00 of 45 degrees tomorrow. so you're really going to notice that temperature difference. and at that point, you're looking at a wintry mix, by 8:00, this is when snow and a wintry mix will start to move into the d.c. metro area, by 10:00 p.m., it will be snowing in washington. as we take a look at snowfall totals across the area, inside the d.c. metro area, we're looking at three to six inches of snow there, areas back to the west, areas like fairfax, manassas, marshall, royalton and front royal, it's a little bit cult off. let's move the map a little bit actually. we're looking at six inches potentially or more there. up around the mason-dixon line, frederick and washington county, less for you, two to four inches, i'm going to be tweeting out this map so you can go and

see exactly how much you can expect in your neighborhood, but again, we're thinking about three to six inches for most people, 40% chance of that happening and we could see these numbers change. so you need to tune in at 11:00. this is a difficult storm to forecast. now monday again it's snowing until 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. a high on monday of only 33 degrees, snow is going to stick to the road. tuesday, there's a chance for some showers, maybe some showers on wednesday as well. at least next friday, chris, we'll be back around 60 degrees. >> wow, can't come soon enough. coming up in sports s the cs come up cl
