right now at 11:00, a community comes together for a local girl missing for the past month. their message tonight and what we learned about the man believed to have taken her. questions tonight surrounding a domestic situation that turned deadly. and mother nature forces people out of their homes. news4 at 11:00 starts now. we begin tonight with a community praying for answers in the mysterious disappearance of an 8-year-old girl. i am chris lawrence. police are still searching and tonight family and friends and people worried about the girl all got together to comfort each

other. darcy spencer was live and has more. >> this was very emotional. the story touched so many people in our region, and tonight there were tears and also anger at that vigil, that a man trusted by so many people may be behind this little girl's disappearance. >> bring her back. just bring her back. just bring her back. safe. >> a community gathered to pray for the safe return of the missing 8-year-old girl that police fear is in danger. >> we think we need to think of her if she were our baby. bring her home. >> the vigil was organized by the play time project that she was part of when she was living at the homeless shelter at d.c. general. >> i was angry, and i woke up and i saw her and she made me happy. >> her stepfather among those

speaking through tears. >> i just want my baby back. >> she is believed to have been taken by this man a. janitor at the shelter. earlier this week tatum was charged with killing his wife after she was found shot to death at a motel in oxen hill. >> everybody knows him. he bought my daughter a fishtank and i stopped it there, no more gifts. >> they need to do a thorough background check with these workers. >> sources tell nbc 4 she allowed him to take her weeks ago not suspecting he would hurt her. >> we just want to bring her home. if you are watching this, we miss you and love you. >> it was obvious from those that spoke about her tonight that she was loved by so many people there at the shelter and they talked about how smart and caring she is. if anybody has any information on where she might be, you are

urged to call dc police. earlier today we spoke with mayor vince gray about the search and he says finding her is his top priority. >> our priority is to find her, she is 8 years old, and we have concerns about the inconsistencies that we have gotten, and we will be continuing to try and find her, and that's the most important thing. needless to say, we hope to find her safely. >> we are following this case around the clock on the air and online. head over to nbcwashington.com for the latest. new at 11:00, prince georges county police are investigating a dispute that turned deadly. somebody called police tonight and asked them to check on the folks living there. officers found a man shot to death and a woman seriously hurt. police are not saying if the woman was shot as well, just that she had traumatic injuries.

she is in the hospital right now, but is expected to survive. the police have not released any names and they are not saying if the two knew each other. a major scare really shook up a lot of shoppers at a northern virginia mall today. somebody overheard two women saying there was going to be a shooting and they had to leave. that was enough for officials to evacuate part of the town center. some stores closed their gates while shoppers hid in the store rooms. deputies searched store by store and did not find anybody with the gun, but shotters say they are grateful investigators tried. >> i definitely err on the side of over caution, and i am thankful for that and when your child is in there or somebody you know, you can never be too cautious. >> deputies looked for the two women talking about the shooting but never found them. a ramp to the anacostia freeway is still shut down

tonight. five hours after a series crash nearby. take a look at these pictures. a woman was driving through this afternoon and sent them to us. the crash involved two cars. traffic was backed up for two miles as emergency crews worked the scene. police have not said what caused the crash or if there were serious injuries. investigators are looking into another accident that involved one of their police cars. the cruiser collided with a camaro right near the intersection of vermont avenue. we are still waiting to hear who is to blame. we know the crash caused a major traffic problem. we are hearing reports of some injuries, but everybody is expected to be okay. right now it's the end of what is now the warmest day this year so far. the bad news is, it looks like the weather you saw today will

not stick around. we have a look at what to expect coming up. for tomorrow we are going to be much cooler, not only that but i am tracking rain on storm team 4 radar right now in arkansas. this system will pass mainly to our south but it could bring scattered showers for areas in southern maryland and the northern neck tomorrow afternoon. so i want to track it for future weather with you. 7:00 a.m. tomorrow more we are dry and plenty of clouds and 10:00 a.m., cloudy skies at that point, and noon cloudy but dry. afternoon hours, areas far south like charlottesville, and fredericksburg, you could see rain, and potentially making it far north as washington and this is in the afternoon hours. some rain is possible and we will have more on temperatures, chris, in a little bit. >> thank you. as day breaks in australia reinforcements are arriving to look for malaysia airlines

michigan. same-sex couples rush to say "i do" this morning after the court struck the law down. a federal appeals court suspended gay marriage at least through wednesday. michigan passed a law to ban gay marriage in 2004, with about 60% of the voters behind it. the nsa is being accused of spying on a chinese tech company. that's the latest revelation from classified doctors leaked by edward snowden. the documents say the hacked chinese tech giant company. they wanted to track the equipment after it was sold to other countries, and the goal would be to monitor the computer and phone use to prevent attacks on the united states. tonight ukraine lost control of nearly all of its military basis in crimea.

tomorrow marks four years since president obama signed the affordable care act into law and the deadline to sign up is just over a week away. so far more than 5 million people signed up despite the glitches when healthcare.gov launched last fall. the law faces challenges this week, and two say the law violates religious beliefs because it forces them to cover birth control. and then a deadly mudslide. it just happened this afternoon about 50 miles north of seattle. three people died and six others are serious hurt including a 6-month-old baby. the search is on for others who may be trapped after heavy rains created of pile of rocks and mud

that destroyed a half a dozen homes. i got to tell you, walking outside back here at home in our weather, i mean, it was like, wow, this is what spring is supposed to feel like. >> i know. i know. we had a taste of it and unfortunately it's going to go away for a while, but it's going to return. i know we talked about this earlier and we looked at the longer term forecast, and as we start april it looks like the temperatures will be above average, but that's not the case tomorrow and pretty much all of the upcoming week. temperatures highs will be running below average. our average high this time of year is 60 degrees. monday, tuesday wednesday and thursday will be below 60 degrees, well below 60 degrees for tuesday and wednesday. two very cold days. and then you can see friday and saturday, our temperatures, they start to improve. what goes down must come up. temperatures in the 50s for the

most part, and some sports kurpling in the 40s as well. 53 in washington, and 49 in camp springs, and 50 degrees back in winchester. look at the satellite and radar. we are looking at mainly clear skies across the area right now but some clouds will work their way in. very late tonight, and then we wake up with mostly cloudy skies. 41 degrees in washington, and the suburbs in the mid-30s. areas by the water, including the eastern shore will be in the upper 30s for the most part. a bit of a chilly start tomorrow morning and overall the day will just be much cooler than it was today. so 7:00 a.m., maybe peeks of sunshine and by 11:00 all the clouds filled in and i think we will see plenty of clouds throughout the day tomorrow. mid-40s at 11:00 a.m., and by 3:00 this is the point where we could see showers, maybe in southern maryland and the northern neck. temperature at that point of 49. we will hit our high of 50

degrees, and then it's areas like fredericksburg and culpepper and charlottesville that could be dealing with an afternoon shower, and only a 10% chance that washington is dealing with a passing shower. that threat is for southern maryland and the northern neck. 6:00 p.m. we are in the upper 40s again and the clouds hanging on strong. monday, plenty of sunshine but cold. a high of only 43. tuesday, a high of 40. we are looking at snow and some rain to be mixing in with future weather. here we are, 6:00 a.m., and we're tracking some snow. mixing with some rain throughout the day, and people have minor accumulations from this, and maybe around two searches or less right now, and it's cold and breezy, and then, chris, it's cold and very breezy on wednesday. temperatures in the upper 30s, but windchills only in the 20s. a lot of people took

coming through. an 8-point game, and robinson playing a little volleyball out there. huge block. michigan take down texas and their final score, 79-65. and then louisville heading back to the sweet 16 after taking down st. louis today. they did not go away without a fight. down by three points. duane evans doing work down low and gets the bucket and one. a couple plays later, st. louis on the run and rob lowe with the finish the other way. st. louis takes a two-point lead. and then a former george may sun patriot, and he led louisville back. and then louisville was on fire from three-point range today, and scored 21 points here. and the cardinals get past st. louis, 66-51. here is a look at a couple more scores for you. big upsets in the south region. third seed at syracuse. they fall to 11 seed.
