. the intense investigation at a d.c. park for a missing little girl. search teams are now using a different tactic. and brand-new video as millions of people are rocked by a strong earth quake. people say they're still on edge. just when you put away the shovels and boots, it's time to break out the umbrellas. the nation's capital gets a soaking and it's not let's go t our first alert forecast. >> it was a rainy day, most areas saw about a half an inch of rainfall and the rain will continue to stick with us overnight tonight and throughout day tomorrow. here's a look at storm team 4 radar, showers continuing to move through the area, down through southern maryland and back towards lorraine, down through charlottesville as well. we'll continue to see rain move

through overnight tonight, and again, throughout the day tomorrow. good weekend, unfortunately, to get some spring cleaning done. 56 degrees is the temperature right now. you're heading out this evening, you need your umbrella, you need your rain jacket. not just dealing with ranin thi evening, but dealing with fog as well. chris, because of the time period, over a period of two days, this is just going to be a low impact event, we're not looking at major flooding issues. i'll have more on what when we can expect warmer temperatures. >> news 4's darcy spencer is live where crews spent a third day searching. >> reporter: as you can, it is a rainy, gloomy, nasty day here in washington, not the kind of conditions that would be good for a ground search of this massive park, so that search has been called off for the entire

weekend. no ground search, instead they are using dive teams to go into the park and search the ponds. this is 700 acres a lot of ground to cover and a lot of ponds. police say it's possible the man she was with khalil tatum could have killed her and buried her body here. she was last seen march 1 and was in the company of khalil tatum. he was a janitor at the homeless shelter where her family was living. he is still on the run, wanted for the murder of his wife in oxen hill. last night police searched a room at the days inn motel nearby here in northeast washington where tatum had recently stayed. there was no word on what if any evidence was collected during that search. the search here at the park has been called off at least for today, they are expected to be back out here tomorrow, again, with the dive teams, no ground search tomorrow, and the ground search will pick up again next week, as soon as weather

conditions improve and the chief as indicated that people in the community who want to help in this search to try to find this little girl will be allowed to participate in some of the searches next week. reporting live from northeast washington, darcy spencer, news4. police in laurel need your help tonight, they're trying to find a man who ran a man over and just took off. olice found the man's body in a manage over and then ran off. d.c. firefighters rescued three people from a burning home. this was this morning in southeast along stevens road just along south capital street. when firefighters arrived on the scene, they -- paramedics rushed five people in all to the hospital including two kids. they all suffered burns or smoke inhalation, one firefighter was

also hurt and he was treated and released. not far from that fire, in fact just about a block away, d.c. police found a man who had been shot in the head. this was just after midnight along heaton road, officers rushed the man to the hospital but his injuries were too severe and he died. investigators are trying to get a description of the suspect and a motive. we are just days a way from election day in d.c. candidates for d.c. mayor did not let the rain stop them from getting out and encourage folks to get out and vote. as derek ward reports, it marks the end of a campaign that had candidates doing some extra planning. >> reporter: springtime in the district and the campaign signs are in full bloom. the primary election will be held on april 1, early voting is really early. those who are running for office have had to adjust begrudgely. >> you really can't campaign in the winter. who wants to be campaigning with snow on the ground?

kinds of challenges to this early primary, weather being one of them. but that doesn't discourage people who realize the importance of casting a ballot. on this day she was bringing her elderly mother to the polls, she's blind, but clearly sees the need to vote. more than 100 aftershocks have rattled southern california after a 5.1 magnitude earthquake. one clerk runs right out of the store as boxes tumble from the shelves. this earthquake was centered just south of los angeles, but so far there are no reports of serious damage. the quake did shatter some windows and cause cracks near the epicenter, it also caused a rock slide that you can see here was so strong it flipped the car on its roof. another tragedy for the naval academy community, an accident that killed the mid shipman and why it may be a

in for instance prince george's county-three men broke into an apartment last night along shadyside avenue, but onele of people who loved there fought back. dexter manigault's own gun went off. police believe that robbery might have been drug related. a midshipman who was hurt in a freak skate boarding accident died today with his family by his side. friends remember hans loewen as a vibrant guy, somebody who lived life to the fullest. he was 20 years old. he went on a camping trip with another midshipman, he was skating behind a slow moving vehicle when he fell and hit his head.

missing plane now say the objects plucked from the ocean on friday are not connected to the flight 37 who. investigators say the items turned out to be just a bunch of garbage, but they're not ruling out that some floating objects found today could be part of the boeing 777 that disappeared three weeks ago. relatives of the missing passengers are flying to malaysia tomorrow, they're going to be demanding some answers from the government about their loved ones. we're getting a firsthand look at the rescue efforts in washington state tonight. this is video from a rescuer's helmet a week after a devastating mudslide buried the small town of oso. officials said they don't expect to find many survivors. the official death toll is 17. other bodies have been found but they haven't yet been identified. tonight 90 residents are still listed as missing. you know how after you get a big rain, you get a rainbow.

we need a rainbow. >> based on the rain this weekend, we're going to have a double rainbow by monday morning hopefully. we're going to start with the good news today for the upcoming week, most of the upcoming week, we're looking at temperatures to actually be, get this, above average monday through friday, which is now about 62 degrees. tomorrow it will be chilly, and it will be cooler than today, not only that, but we're dealing with rain, winds and some fog for your morning. here's storm team 4 radar right now, i'm tracking scattered rain across the area, you're heading out tonight, again, you need to bring the rain gear and keep it handy for tomorrow. by the time the rain moves out of the area tomorrow night at midnight, we should see most areas pick up about one to two inches, because of the duration, about a two-day event. this is just going to have a low impact on the area, more of a nuisance event. but there could be some ponding on area roads and some very isolated minor flooding that you'll want to look out for if

you're driving. future weather walking you through the rainy forecast, 8:00 tonight, tracking rain potentially, some heavier pockets of rain moving through the area, tomorrow morning, 7:00 a.m., it's cloudy, it's rainy, there could be some dense fog across the area, continuing to see rain at noon, pretty much everybody seeing rain, still at 5:00, showers continue across the area tomorrow. so tomorrow it will be another rainy day. temperatures right now, generally in the 50s, 57 in washington, 59 in camp springs, 48 degrees up in frederick, 47 in haggerstown, culpepper coming in in the upper 50s, lows will be in the 40s across the area, with showers across the area, we're looking at a temperature in washington to only drop to about 49 degrees, so waking up tomorrow morning, it's not going to too bad, but actually look at what happens with temperatures throughout the day. so 7:00 a.m. tomorrow, not only could you be seeing some fog, but you're also dealing with
