right now at 6: a.m. we are watching a huge fire going on in gaithersburg. >> take a look at live pictures coming in from chopper 4 right now. you can see heavy flames still going right now at this building on shady grove road. news4's megan mcgrath live on the scene now. megan, what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, yeah, this is a very large fire. ta a look behind me here just at the size of this building. look up there on the top floor. you can see where the roof has collapsed inside. it is still on fire. although much more undercontrol

than a short time ago. take a look at this video shot when this fire was really rolling and you could get an idea for the intensity here. this is a very large building that appears to be a block wide. it seems to be some mixed use, commercial use on the bottom and apartments and condos on the top. the building, though, was under construction. we are told that nobody had y moved in. so they didn't have to do any evuations. nobody was hurt. but you can see the tremendous amount of damage done by the fire. you can get a bird's eye view and get an idea of th size of this building. we have just a tremendous number of firefighters here on the scene from where i'm standing i can actually see two of the ladder trucks. they have been just throwing water on this thing nonstop since we arrived. absolutely no lull in the

action. as i look around the corner. i see a third truck hosing down the other side of the building here. they do have windy conditions but folk has been hurt. i'm told this is the development called the gables. we are told that some of the other buildings are occupied. people have already moved in. apparently they had to cut power to the entire area to cut the power to the blding on fire. the folks who live in the buildings across the street are without electricity at this poin some we could see down the road a little bit or just standing at the corner watch iing, firefighters are still trying to knock down this extensive fire here anduite a lot of damage. we'll try to talk to some of the folks on the scene and join y later on the show. megan mcgrath, news4, back to

and the winds are not too bad up near 10 miles an hour. yestdathe fire there in gaither. thankfully not much wind. it's 36 there now. and w 45 at reagan national. temperature at 42 this prince gege 40 in fairfax county and across northern virginia. manassas and stanto virginia, right at freezing. high clouds are beginning to drift over us now. and it's a chilly morning, so you need a light jacket. temperature is by 8:00 a.m. we'll be near 40 degrees for the morning and then close to 50 by the afternoon. the next weaer and traffic on the 1s at 6:11. the campaigning is over. election day is here in the district. polls open in less than an hour in the democratic primary. news4's melissa mollet is live in northeast washington with more on whatou can expect at the polls.

torrez already is serving a life sentence for a series of rapes and abductions in 2010. he's also linked by dna to two high-profile murder cases in he has not gone on trial for those climbs. 6:06. investigators are looking into a house fire that killed a child in safford county along. both levels had smoke coming out of t two houses. the fire also caused the house to partially collapse. we are learning to find the identity of the person. >>. and there's a defect linked to dozens of deaths in these vehies on the road. and the changes that could standout for the new iphone and when it will be released. plus, we are watching a chance for showers today.
