but first, a warm weather weekend and just wait until you see the seven-day forecast from storm team 4. >> thanks for joining us this morning. >> welcome to news4 today. we start with that forecast for this saturday morning. we're going to get straight to storm team 4 meteorologist amelia segal. good morning. >> good morning, ladies, and good morning to you at home. happy saturday. our average high now about 89 degrees. today a high temperature of 90. so it will certainly be warm outside. temperatures tomorrow are going to be a little bit higher, but plenty of sunshine around throughout the day today. there are some areas of fog this morning that will burn off over the next hour. one of my twitter followers saying the fog in waldorf is starting to lift a little bit. that will continue to be the trend across the area. 66 is the temperature now in luray. here's how temperatures will warm up into the early afternoon hours.

by 10:00 a.m. we're already at 80 degrees. noon, temperatures in the mid-80s. by 2:00, temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. again, a high temperature today of 90. tomorrow not only will it be more humid and warmer, but there's also some storms in the forecast. i'll have more details on sunday coming up in a bit. >> thank you. new this morning, a 25-year-old man is recovering after being hurt in a bad crash in montgomery county. take a look at this video. amazing. happened late last night in chevy chase. police say that driver drifted across lanes and slammed into a tree. that car completely wrapped around the tree at one point. no one else, though, was hurt. today family and friends will remember a young man who drowned this week in the fredericksburg quarry. anthony johnson jr. had just graduated from forest park high school in prince william county. he was planning on attending college in florida this fall. he drowned monday while swimming with friends. that memorial tonight 8:30 at

netanyahu says his country will continue to defend itself from militants in the gaza strip. the gaza health ministry says more than 120 people in gaza have been killed. israel launched air strikes five days ago in response to rocket fire coming from gaza. and palestinians in gaza are asking the united nations for a resolution urging for a ceasefire. the resolution does not mention hamas firing rockets into israel. most council members back the palestinians. the cdc is doing damage control this morning. it's placed a stop on the shipment of all samples of biological materials from some of the highest security level labs. this comes a after lab mistake that exposed workers to anthrax. the cdc's director is calling the behavior totally unacceptable. >> i'm upset, i'm angry, i've lost sleep over it, and i'm working around the clock to make

sure we do everything possible to resolve it. >> dr. tom frieden there will face tough questions this week in washington. he's scheduled to discuss the anthrax scare before a congressional kmecommittee. erica edwards has more on the laboratory mistakes. >> reporter: a report has revealed several serious errors at cdc labs. historically considered world class in their safety precautions. >> i'm disappointed by what happened, and frankly, i'm angry about it. >> reporter: friday tom frieden addressed recent incidents. starting with the anthrax scare that exposed 80 cdc workers. >> the scientists failed to follow a scientifically derived and reviewed protocol that would have assured that anthrax was inactivated and that the material was confirmed to be sterile before it ever left the

lab. that should have happened, and it didn't. >> reporter: none of those workers have fallen ill, but that lab is now closed. in a second incident, workers accidentally sent active bird flu to an outside lab. this week another agency discovered decades' old viles of smallpox. these errors coupled with 2006 involving botulism lee to one key question. >> how could this have happened at the cdc that all these agents were released in the last decade? >> i ask the same question. happening today, another reminder to slow down or face a fine. five speed cameras will start issuing tickets in the district. here is a look at the locations. all the cameras here in southeast d.c. if you're caught speeding it could cost you 300 bucks. there are more than 170 across

in northern virginia, the commonwealth is giving up $65 million to the streetcar project along columbia pike. the streetcar would stretch nearly five miles from the skyline area in fairfax to arlington. the streetcar system is expected to bring in billions of dollars. study found it would up real estate values by $4.4 billion

there over the next 30 years. the system expected to bring in $455 million in tax revenue including the columbia pike segment and the potomac yard segment. vincent grey vetoed the budget approved by the city council. >> he's asking council to postpone its summer recess to work with his office on a compromise. the proposed budget includes a tax break for senior citizens and a new tax on gym and yoga memberships. >> city council approved the budget 12 to 1. it would take nine votes to override the mayor's veto. move over atlantic city. another atlantic city casino is set to close. this comes as casino revenue in maryland hit another record high in june.

tractor-trailers rammed into morgan's limo bus. the truck driver, meanwhile, kevin roper, has pleaded not guilty to death by auto and other charges. a california mother says she plans to hire an attorney after she was removed from a concert in san diego. she had her 4-month-old strapped to her chest in the pit area when an officer approached her. >> you're putting your child in danger of being crushed and the loud music. >> it's illegal to have my child at a concert? >> yes. it's child endangerment. >> concert security spotted the infant and were concerned about the baby getting hurt. the baby cousin asleep. she believes they targeted her because earlier she was breast-feeding at the concert. they gave her the option of moving to a different area or have her tickets refunded. she decided to leave altogether.

christo christopherson was not fighting at the koconcert. we get a look at what it feels like to be locked in a car in the summer heat. a texas officer did just that to urge parents not to leave their children alone in vehicles. rehema ellis reports. >> sweating. probably hard to see. >> reporter: after 15 minutes. >> breathing is a little harder to do. >> reporter: then 20. >> it's very, very hot. >> reporter: corporal jesse peterson sat in his car in texas as temperatures outside reached 94 degrees. >> somewhere around 130 degrees inside the car in 25 minutes. >> reporter: after 30 minutes, he had to stop. >> my body's telling me to get out. it's pretty brutal. definitely an awareness even for myself. >> reporter: heatstroke is the second leading cause of non-traffic fatalities among children if the u.s. so far this year 16 have died.

a recent survey of a thousand parents found that nearly seven in ten know about the dangers but said they would leave their own children alone in a car. 14% of parents reported they have actually done it. experts say most people think a tragedy won't happen to them. >> and that is the worst mistake any person can ever make. because if you think it can't happen to you, then you won't put the protections in place that will prevent it from happening. >> reporter: right now there are no government-approved technologies on the market to alert when kids are left in the car. experts say parents and caregivers need to be the first line of defense. >> anyone watching this can potentially save a child's life if they see a child left alone in a car. >> reporter: in fact, tennessee just passed a law to protect passers-by who break a car window if they think a child's in danger. it was passers-by in new mexico who rescued a 5-year-old girl

locked in a pickup truck for an hour. a reminder of an avoidable tragedy. rehema ellis, nbc news, los angeles. a black bear found himself in trouble in wisconsin until two guys came to his rescue. the bear got his head stuck in a can. potato farmer and a logger saw him walking around with the milk jug on his head. they used a device used for lifting wood to remove that jug. you can see the bear running back into the woods and all is well. as we said earlier, i know about putting your head in the sand, head in the can a little different. but i'm glad that guy's okay. felt bad for him. >> i never get tired of seeing bears with their heads stuck in things. as long as they're oka in the end. >> that's true. you know the weather is not going to cause any problems today, right? >> good. i'm so glad to see this. storm team 4 meteorologist

charles county police are warning women about a potential sexual predator. a woman says she fought off the man who tried to attack her this week. happened tuesday at the outback self-storage lot in white plains. the woman says he grabbed her from behind just as she was walking into the storage unit. police have released this sketch. this man pushed her to the ground and tried to take her clothes off, but she was able to fight him off and he ran away. he may have driven off in a green car with maryland plates. an important warning before you head to the bank. releasing pictures here of men using skimming devices at atms and gaining access to customer accounts. northern virginia bureau chief has a step you can take to protect your information. >> reporter: this fairfax county woman knows all about skimming. her bank card information was skimmed about a year ago. >> we used it as a gas station, actually, to buy gas.

and we had it swiped. i guess somebody tried to use it down in florida about two hours later. >> reporter: police say these three men know all about skimming too and they want to track them down. this was one of the suspect photos that caught bank security's attention. but police think the surgical operation here involved is skimming device. the men have targeted atms four times since early june at three suntrust banks. >> while this particular series is linked to the suntrust, there may will be other banking institutions affected by this. >> reporter: these are the devices used for skimming. they can be inserted into the atm slot used to copy a bank card's identifying information. small cameras are often set up to grab pin numbers. >> when you have your card, when you're putting it in, inserting it, make sure there's nothing loose, there's nothing falling off. >> reporter: after her

it sure was a sight to see. new york city came to a standstill, sort of, yesterday for the last manhattan edge this year. the rare phenomenon when the sunset aligns perfectly with the manhattan street grid and creates this glow. it happened at exactly 8:24 in the evening. the spectacular event only happens twice a year. once in may and again in july. and you'll get another chance to see this tonight. that's a super moon that appeared larger and brighter than usual across the d.c. region. >> storm team 4 meteorologist amelia segal joins us now to tell us more about this super moon. it was quite super. it was cool. >> i have to tell you sometimes full moons freak me out. i think things are going to happen, but this one was pretty. >> it was beautiful as the sun

carolina, while the storm was pounding the city. someone fortunately picked him up and got him to a pet shelter. no one came to pick him up for five days. cute. steven mills here saw the dog on the news and decided to adopt him. and he names him, appropriately so, arthur. he says he and his wife don't have any kids and so their dogs are their babies. and judging by that tail wag there -- do you see that? he couldn't be happier. >> my god. that took three seconds to get him adopted out. i'm sure. a programming note to pass along today. >> the schedule is shifted around because of sports this afternoon. no "today" show. tour de france at the top of the hour. then golf. then today's headlines this evening at news4 at 6:00. that's all for news4 today -- oh! our final weather from amelia. i was ready to go. >> the humidity today is not going to be too bad.
