10:02 am
take a look at the scene earlier this morning. police got the call for a shooting here. we're told that three males inside this vehicle were injured and taken to the hospital. we don't know their ages or conditions. this is in the bloomingdale section of d.c. one of those areas that is enjoying somewhat of a renaissance. that is, you know, providing some shock to neighbors as they awaken this morning. nobody seems to have heard anything except the police response about the time it happened. now there's a tow truck out of our camera view, but a tow truck is on the scene, the car will be taken away and processed at the d.c. crime lab. you need to know for the next few minutes, southbound north capitol at street level, is closed because of this. now, northbound you're moving through. t street is going to be blocked while they remove this vehicle. again the investigation is under way. exactly what happened here, there was enough of an impact with this wall that separates the grade street grade from the

some retailers are lowering their standards to get your money. >> reporter: coach, kate spade, tori birch, high end brands with surpri prices to match unless you're willing to make the haul to an outlet bag. >> they do markdowns like 60 to 65%. >> reporter: same brand names maybe. >> the type of fabric. it's a silk. >> reporter: but clothing designer david says outlet store merchandise is different. >> now most of the clothing you find in outlets is made for the outlets. usually not as good a quality. >> reporter: guess, ann taylor, coach, banana republic and countless other retailers most products sold in their outlet stores were never sold in their regular retail stores. >> are these retailers making knockoffs of their products? >> they're making versions of it. >> reporter: clothing designer david dang. >> to achieve the price point

you have to offer the garment a little bit. >> reporter: they do that with less expensive zippers and hardware. the problem comes when retailers try to pass off the lower quality goods as seconds from the highend store. four lawmakers asked the federal trade commission to investigate pricing practices at outlet stores. retailers make the cheaper outlet goods but attach high price tags before discounting them to make customers believe they're getting a bargain. >> there are ways to tell if products are the real deal versus ones made for the cheaper outlet stores. you have to look closely. >> reporter: at ann taylor, j crew and banana republic the products made for outlets have diamonds or dots below the names. no dots on the regular merchandise. tags on bags made for the coach outlet look like this with established 1941 printed under the logo. the high end bags will have this tag with new york under the

logo. >> that was amy davis reporting. the bottom line if you like the less expensive outlet version buy it. >> you're not getting a bargain. you're more likely paying for the product what it's worth. great tips. who would have known? did not know that. >> look at the label. >> yeah. >> right now u.s. secretary of state john kerry is overseas hoping to help broker a deal on iran's nuclear program. we'll talk about the negotiations next with "meet the press" moderator david gregory. >> marking the moment when the civil war reached d.c. the group forced to stay on the sidelines of this re-enactment. >> here's amelia. >> as we head into the work week we're looking at storms for the start, but by the finish, it will be comfortable an refreshing. i'll have the latest timing and what you can expect as far as severe weather goes in my forecast.

in the week ahead a race against time for a deal with iran. next sunday marks the deadline to reach an agreement over the country's nuclear program. >> david gregory will discuss this with a special guest this morning on "meet the press" and david joins us now to talk about this. thanks for being with us this morning. >> thanks so much. >> start there with iran's nuclear program. secretary kerry is in vienna right now with iran and six other powers. meeting to negotiate a long-term deal. but is an agreement likely to be reached in time and what happens if they can't break through? >> there's a lot of points here. and we've got an exclusive interview this morning with
10:15 am
javad zarif the foreign minister of iran. our audience hasn't had a chance to see him and hear him in detail. iran is believed to want a nuclear weapons program which is why the u.s. and others want them to dismantle much of their capacity. they are telling they the he are not -- me they are not prepared to do it. they should trust iran when it says it doesn't want a nuclear bomb. even if there is a deal, it might get one in ten days, the president has a problem at home in congress. congress is not of a mind to ease the sanctions on iran. iran is a state sponsor of terror. supporting the assad regime in syria. so i don't think congress on either side, republican or democrat, is interested in taking the foot off the pedal of sanctions and i think that becomes a political problem. >> john kerry has been busy lately trying to ease tensions in the middle east between israelis and palestinians.

10:16 am
what's the impact? >> you'll hear from martin indyk who stepped down as middle east envoy telling me he does not think that a ground invasion is necessarily what is next. he thinks the israeli leadership is a little bit more reluctant to do that now because they're not sure what that would actually achieve. they want to stop the rocket fire. they have some room it seems to do that from the u.s. and other countries who have been supportive. but the issue now is what does it take to get a cease-fire, to get this to stop. that seems off yet. >> we've been talking about immigration this week, in particular children crossing the border from central america. president obama has asked congress for $3.7 billion in funding to help deal with this issue. but will politics get in the way of a deal here? >> well, it has. there's no question. on both sides of it. the president has a lot of pressure from his party because they've gone down to visit the border because he's talking about deporting most of these children and others who are coming in.
10:17 am
republicans don't seem to want to support him. the failure of comprehensive immigration reform. i think the focus is getting most of these children deported. getting them back to the central american countries and the president wants as much flexibility in the best way possible and the safest way possible because the journey to get to this point that our pictures are showing is so treacherous and they are being exploited and harmed in horrible ways by some of these smugglers. this piece has to stop. >> david gregory, thanks so much. a few minutes away from "meet the press" on nbc 4. so stay with us here at 10:30, for david and "meet the press." >> in less than two weeks, you can ride the first phase of metro's silver line. "the washington post" reports drivers who use the dulles toll road are paying a bigger share of the construction costs that originally planned. the tolls have gone up from 2.50 to $7 for a round trip over the past five years. in 2004, planners estimated the
10:18 am
tolls would cover 25% of construction costs. but with delays and $150 million over budget, drivers have had to pay more money to cover the additional expenses. hundreds people turned out for the 150th anniversary of the battle of fort stevens in the district. fire marked the moment when the civil war came to the nation's capital. the only time in u.s. history that a sitting president directly came under enemy fire. the battle could have changed the history of d.c. if not for ordinary washingtonians who defended their homes, held the fort and kept confederate soldierses from capturing the capital. >> the house i grew up in is on the other side of that fort down the street. this is really my neighborhood. it's home. >> this was literally saving washington, d.c. from confederate capture.
10:19 am
>> one group was forced to stand on the sidelines. they represented confederate soldiers. they told us the park service would not allow them to participate if they blocked their confederate flags even though those flags are accurate. they came to protest but did not disrupt the re-enactment. alexandria celebrated its birthday with a fireworks show. the skies lit up for the city's 265th birthday. the alexandria symphony orchestra performed and played the 1812 overture at the fireworks went off. a nice night for it. >> yeah. >> beautiful. >> something else that was bright yesterday was the moon last night. >> it was gorgeous. did you see it? it had a wonderful orange gloe to it last night that it didn't have on friday night. actually have a great picture on my facebook and twitter pages people are loving. somebody sent it to me. you have to check it out. called the super moon. it's looking bigger and brighter because it's passing closer to

the earth. don't worry, we're looking at one next month and the one after that. plenty of that in our future. also in our future, comfortable air. today hot and humid. tomorrow hot and humid. tuesday, hot, humid and then after that it will be nice. the humidity is low. wednesday, thursday, friday, it will start to get a little bit more muggy on saturday, but high temperatures for the middle part and end of the week, will be in the mid 80s. current temperatures right now, well, we're in the low 80s. so right now, how it feels in washington, 83 degrees. that will be the high temperature on wednesday almost. but then take out the humidity. just imagine how refreshing that will be. the air conditioner is getting a break. 75 in manassas, 82 in annapolis. looking for the most part mainly sunny skies, filtered sunshine out there, all in all, today mostly to partly sunny. here's how temperatures warm up into the afternoon hours.
10:21 am
notice by noon we're at 87. at 1:00 we jump to 90. for the remainder of the afternoon hours into the early evening hours, temperatures sit around the 93, 94 degree mark. that's our high today. 94. now on storm team 4 radar this is the activity i'm keeping a close eye on. this is where we're going to get our showers and thunderstorms from later today. there could be an isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm mainly west of washington. but i really think the activity holds off until about 8:00 p.m. tonight. here we are at noon. hazy sunshine across the area. 1:30, frederick county, potentially dealing with pop-up showers and thunderstorms. but again, my timing really focused on that 8:00 hour when we're going to see scattered showers and thunderstorms moving through the area. still tracking the chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms overnight tonight. this is tomorrow morning. you're heading back to work on monday. it's a dry start to the day. partly to mostly cloudy skies.
10:22 am
tomorrow afternoon we're tracking rain and thunderstorms, some thunderstorms tomorrow could potentially be severe. heavy rain is possible tomorrow. notice the bright reds there on future weather. a high temperature tomorrow of 93 degrees. rain and thunderstorms likely continue into the early evening hours tomorrow. outdoor plans, want to go to the pool, kids have sports outdoors, not looking like a great day for that. as far as severe weather is concerned, tomorrow, really looking at the threat for high winds and maybe some hail and any thunderstorms because of the heavy rain. there could also be flash flooding. now on tuesday, a high temperature of 89 degrees and this is the day we start to see a bit of a pattern shift. the hot and humid air goes away, cool air filters in. it filters in tuesday night. so wednesday, thursday and friday temperatures will feel like early june outside, plenty of sunshine for wednesday and thursday. >> it will be nice to have a bit of a break. >> absolutely. i am so looking forward to it.
10:23 am
>> right. thanks, amelia. >> we'll tell you coming up where you can join soccer fans to see today's final match of the 2014 world cup. >> and after "meet the press," today's press pass is the conversation with anita hill, at the center of an infamous sexual harassment case in the '90s. david gregory talked to her about her life now, see that right here on nbc 4.
